Raff immediately backed himself up as the Psyduck began to stir. His eyes and the eyes of both of his poke'mon were trained on the Psyduck, eyes that studied rather than saw. Tyrric had manuvered himself off to the side while Raff was still in line with the Psyduck when the psychic duck attempted to scratch him. Just as he took a step backwards to try and avoid the attack he stumbled, tripping over something and falling onto his butt. Aella leapt from his shoulder as he began to fall and let herself back into her poke'ball out of fear. Tyrric, without much thought, pointed one of his white, green tipped, arms at the advancing Psyduck and fired off a razor leaf attack, trying to get his attention and knock him away from Raff. As the Snover prepared himself for battle, hail began to fall around them.
(umm... it had been Tyrric, the Snover, who had poked the Psyduck, not Raff. But whatever, I'll go with it.) ... razor leaf snow warning

as cold as ice, willing to sacrifice our love
The Psyduck was still a little groggy from sleeping earlier and was definitely not ready for the incoming attack. He saw it but his vision was a bit blurry. It was then he realized that there were sharp leaves flying towards him! He was hit directly and he fell backwards from the pain. Man, did it hurt! ::psyduck:: <"Please tell me this is a nightmare! Tell me I overdosed on sleeping pills! I'd rather have that than get killed by a tree!"> said the Duck Pokemon in thought. He got back up and looked at Tyrric. He then turned around and started wagging his tail as cutely as possible before turning around and firing off a Water Gun attack at Frosted Tree Pokemon.
- Psyduck was hit by Razor Leaf! It was super-effective!
- Psyduck used Tail Whip and then Water Gun on Tyrric!

The Snover was bewildered by the tail wagging Psyduck. A curious and confused look took over his face and he blinked a few times. He was caught off guard when he suddenly had a face full of cold, rushing water. Tyrric stumbled backwards, water running down his face and beginning to freeze on his cold body and from the hail he was causing around them. He frowned and, planting both feet firmly on the ground he let loose another razor leaf attack, the bushes around them shook and leaves came free, flying in a circle around the Psyduck before flying inwards towards him.

Pokemon battle ! The Psyduck was hoping for the water gun to do some actual damage, but all it really seemed to do was wash the Snover's face. He heaved a loud sigh, realizing that the battle was definitely not going in his favor.
The leaves swirled around him and shot at him from all sides, and he was far too sleepy to come up with an evasive maneuver. The leafs slashed his thick yellow feathers, some cutting so deep that they drew blood. The duck gave a cry of pain before acting without hesitation, rushing blindly at Snover and lashing out both claws and attempting to claw the icy tree.

He grinned widely as he continued to pound away the Psyduck's health. Tyrric, digging his heels into the dirt, attempted to catch the Psyduck as he ran foreword. Cuts appearing on his skin, tearing away his thick fur and breaking his skin in places. It hurt. Way more than the water gun did. With a look of determination he attempted to throw the Psyduck from his arms and over to the side, where he fired a third razor leaf at him.

The duck didn't even have enough prescience to know what just happened. The leaves tore across his skin, leaving him a tattered mess of bruises and bumps. He cried out, wondering why this was hurting if it was only a dream.
<"I'm...so...tired."> The duck wobbled back and forth, unable to grasp what was going on. He fell down with a thud, returning to the land of sweet dreams, lolipops, and other assorted candies. Maybe there, he would finally get the peace he deserved.
Psyduck has fainted and Tyrric gains 1 level! Capture or move on?

The hail died away, leaving the Snover standing tall and proud after his little scrap. His small eyes turned to Raff, who was holding out his poke'ball. Two battles in a row was more than enough to tire him out, even if neither had been very difficult on him. He leapt into his ball for a nap. Raff kindly rolled the fainted Psyduck off to the side of the road but decided not to capture him, rather he walked on by and to the next adventure that awaited him. With him he still had two poke'mon unused in battle, and Dru the Snorunt had hardly been used against Tyrric. He had a while before he needed a poke'mon center.

A sharp, clear tune carried over the other sounds of La Première Route with simple, practised ease. It was truly a delightful sound to listen to if you were into that sort of thing; a simple, clear tune almost like a woodwind instrument such as a flute. And from the top of a tall tree burst the source of this divine tune, a Starly, trilling carelessly as she soared through the skies, her keen eyes scanning below for food now the winter thaw had started. Unfortunately, even her gaze couldn't quite perceive the odd berry from this high in the air, so what could she do but go lower? Lifting her wings a little to allow the wind currents to let her drop, she already had her eyes on a bush on the side of the main trail; not too thorny, so that she could safely forage before the other avians could get their greedy talons on the entire spring's berry stock, forcing her to change her foraging grounds. Landing with a soft grunt, she began to ruffle through her shrubbery of choice with her beak and claws, confident that she would hear any other hungry Pokemon- or a Trainer, for that matter- sneaking up on her before they could corner her. How wrong she was, for in her hunger, she had subconsciously blocked out all else, a foolish mistake for a wild one such as herself. ::starly::

He glanced up towards the sky, hearing the unmistakable call of a Starly. He watched the black shadow, distorted by the shining sun, head for a nearby bush. With a swift movement he reached into his pocket and pulled out Aella's pokeball. He pushed the button and released her from the red and white sphere. She ruffled her feathers as she landed upon Raff's shoulder. For now the small Pidgey could sit on Raff, but if he kept his promise to her to train her to a Pidgeot then eventually she could carry him. "There's a Starly up ahead in that bush. Up for a fight Aella?" The Pidgey hesitantly nodded. She wasn't sure she could do it... Starly could be almost as fierce as Spearow. But she didn't want to disappoint Raff the first time he called upon her. She flew from her perch towards the bush, hovering up above. <Excuse me Starly... fancy a practice fight?> She chirped up, unsure if she'd be heard at all. The Starly looked rather busy.

Starly had nothing for her labour in the bushes but a rather messed up plumage, covered in leaves and twigs. That would certainly take a while to clean up. And the persistent borborygms of her stomach only served to remind her of how hungry she was. It was at that point that the Pidgey approached. Staring her down with a powerful, self important glare, she showed a less than savoury side to her personality, born of hunger and cold. >I don't have time to trifle with rough-housing with the likes of you,<[/I] she preened haughtily. >Now if you don't mind, I've got food to find.< And without so much as another glance, the Starly renewed her struggles with the bush. ::starly::

Oh, it was a good thing Tyrric was resting. Aella was rejected with a sorrowful look upon her face. Eyes turned back to Raff, looking for reassurance from him. She started to flutter back to him. Raff gave her a slightly smile. "You can't just let that Starly push you around like that Spearow did." He said calmly, offering out his arm if she wanted a perch to land on. Instead, and with a look of determination on her face she turned in the air and fluttered quickly back towards the Starly, kicking up sand as she went and flinging it towards the Starly in a Sand Attack to get her attention. <"Hey! Come mess with the likes of this!"> She called out as loud as she could manage.

The Starly thought she had found something, it was blue and small...oh joy it was an Oren Berry. She chirped happily and went to pick it up when she felt something being thrown on her feathers. She gasped at the sand on her feathers, her beautiful feathers were now filled with sand that would takes hours to get out!
She turned to the Pidgey with a glint in her eyes. She growled in a low, angry chirp. She looked like an angry Groundon from looks. <You...messed up....my feathers...> She was pretty nice to begin with, letting them off with a warning. They could have done anything else BUT get her feathers messy. She then flapped her wings wildly and tried to Tackle the small Pidgey. She wanted revenge, and she wasn't going to give up until she had it.

Raff was ready to help direct Aella in her fight. Clenching his fist he shouted up to the small bird. He didn't have a lot of attacks at his disposale, but he was going to do whatever he could to help her win this fight for her sake. "Quick, another sand attack as she tackles you." Aella responded immediately, throwing up a cloak of sand around them as she was struck in the chest with a strong tackle, her body thrown back into the air. "And tackle!" Without taking a second to hesitate she listened to her trainer, diving back into the sand cloud she'd kicked up, towards the Starly's body, pulling her wings in tight to gain speed.

The Starly's Keen Eye thankfully made sure the sand-attack did nothing but mess her beautiful feathers up. As she zoomed in she felt her feathers get hit once again, she scowled and thankfully her attack hit. She smirked but then suddenly saw the Pidgey coming in for a Tackle, she gasped and had no time to dodge. The impact from the Tackle sent her flying, she landed n the ground with a thud and shook her head. Getting up slowly and scowling at the small bird Pokemon she squwaked loudly and tried for another Tackle. Flapping her wings up and trying to ram herself into the Pidgey, next time you should learn don't mess with a Starly that loves her feathers.

Fighting... she was fighting! <"I'm going to do my trainer proud and take you down!"> She chirped at the Starly as she flew back at Aella in another tackle attack. Flapping her wings harder she lifted herself up into the air, dodging the oncomming tackle attack. Raff cheered loudly from the side-lines. "That's the way Aella! Use another tackle." The Pidgey spread her wings, letting herself glide around in a circle so that she was behind the Starly and with a brutal flap she propelled her body towards the Starly's back.

The Starly gasped as she didn't notice the Tackle come until it was right before her. She had no time to dodge, thus, making her pain even more worst. She flopper backwards and landed on her back. It took her a few minutes before getting back to her talons. She waved a wing at the Pidgey as if to say bring it on.
She opened her beak and let out a loud Growl, echoing through the forest and aiming to lower attack from the Pidgey, thus making the attacks hurt a lot less. Then, she flapped her wings and tried to throw herself into the bird pokemon. The Tackle was supported by the flapping of wings, hopefully making her aim a bit better.

Down and around Aella flew, circling around again and always keeping the Starly in her sights. Her confidence level had nearly exploded past the limit after that last tackle. But the Starly wasn't down yet, and Aella's confidence was unshakeable. She shuddered as Starly growled at her, closing her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again the small black bullet was flying towards her. "Aella! Watch it!" Raff called out, but the Pidgey was still hit in the chest by the tackle attack, flying backwards and landing on the ground near Raff's feet. He knelt down and scooped the pidgey up in his arms, then shifting her into one arm while the other tossed the poke'ball of his Snorunt. "Powder Snow!" Raff shouted before the red light had faded and the ball returned to his hand. Dru appeared, and as she did so a cold breeze, laced with snow, flew at the Starly from her direction.

The Starly totally kicked that Pidgey's ass. She was quite proud of herself and started laughing as if she knew she was going to win. She turned around, closed her eyes, and held a wing up to her beak. She turned her back on the Trainer as if to prove he wasn't worth her time. ::starly:: <"See? That's what happens when you mess with my feathers. You get a huge beating, that's what!"> said the Starly with a mocking tone of voice. Suddenly, she was hit in the back by a snowy wind and it hurt a lot! She let out a loud squawk before falling on to the ground. Apparently, she forgot that Trainers usually have more than one Pokemon. She was silenced immediately as she fainted.

Raff recalled Dru, letting the poke'ball shrink he returned it to his pocket with his other poke'balls. Aella was still held close to his body, her wings hanging loosely over Raff's arm. He lifted his free hand to pet her head. "You did amazing." He said softly, and having no use for another flying type besides his beloved Aella he ignored the Starly. With a swift pace he made his way towards the nearest poke'mon center in Ile Electrique for a quick heal.

back from the poke'center
With a freshly healed team, Raff was ready to continue his training on the route. No more simple exploring. He pulled out Tyrric and Dru's pokeballs from the large pocket of his khaki cargo pants. He tossed them both into the air and the two Ice types stood before him, glancing at each other with the sort of respect same-type poke'mon exhibited, as if they understood each other. Raff knelt down to speak to them. Dru seemed happy. Tyrric was his usual stand-offish self. But he kept an open ear. "Now guys. What we have here is awesome. Tyrric... you make hail. Dru, hail heals you. What do you two say to working on some battle techniques?" Dru was all on board. She nodded, but then glanced back to consult Tyrric... who was hesitantly eyeing Raff. The Snover loved to battle... but on his own terms. He wasn't entirely ready for this teamwork thing.
