[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] Crunch. Reese's heavy boots crashed down upon the arid land. The hot sun beat down upon the poor scientist, and there was no shade in sight. What a terrible day to go hiking!
He ducked behind a rock to catch his breath and perhaps find some solace. His cell phone hadn't stopped ringing in days, it was probably her. The very thought of another conversation with a screeching phone sent chills down his spine. What a chore she was!
Hand dipped into his bag, withdrawing a pokeball and rolling it around in his palm. The smooth shiny metal was cool on his skin. Soothing. Thumb tapped the button, releasing the creature inside.
A Cacnea appeared. Revolve poked around, the cactus pokemon happy in the dry, withered mountain grass. It was just hot enough for comfort!

Nick squinted at the sun. "Ugh, I hate the sun." Looking down at Pokemon in front of him an idea formed in his head. Lotad was weaving back and forth on the road. "Hey, Jimmy, Use rain dance, make the sun go away for awhile." Looking back at his partner Lotad grinned.
Leaning on a rock, Nick crossed his arms and watched his Pokemon work. Jimmy started to quiver left to right. Jumping forward, Jimmy performed a somersault. Once landing Jimmy continued to move forward and back, left and right. Finally ending his dance, Jimmy released the energy he had been storing.
In the skies above clouds seemed to materialize out of nowhere. A shadow formed over the land around them. Looking up at the sky, Nick witnessed the last of the sunlight get snuffed out. Smiling as the first drops hit his face he gave a corny thumbs up to his Pokemon.
Soon the rain covered the land. Jimmy jumped around in the rain joyously. Nick decided to bask in the calm the rain brought over him. Closing his eyes he let the dull sound wash over him.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] The only thing Reese hated more than excessive sunshine was torrential downpours. He felt something touch him and stood, covering his head with his bag. He shot the newcomers a sour glare. His Cacnea, Revolve, skittered closer, wrapping his thorny arms around Reese's leg. Thick denim provided a shield preventing the needles from skewering his leg, but the trainer still flinched a bit.
"What's that?" thick black eyebrow cocked curiously, stare focused on Jimmy. Reese hadn't been a trainer for very long and was wholly unfamiliar with the concept of weather changing moves. He blinked, tipping his head to the sky.
Plop! A fat raindrop landed square between his eyes. "Your pokemon did that?" he asked slowly in his thick accent, wiping the water off with his sleeve. Despite the water leaking from the sky it was still quite hot, and getting more and more humid by the moment.
Revolve peeked out from his hiding spot behind Reese just long enough to stick his tongue out at Lotad.

Nick yelped in surprise. He had thought he was alone in the mountains. "Uh..." Nick let his adrenaline cool while he tried to understand what the person was asking. Looking over him he saw his dark tone and striking blue-streaked hair. Finally realizing what he was asking he answered, "Uh, yeah, I don't like the sun so I had my Pokemon cause a little rain storm." Ignoring the newcomers face, he continued, "It's nice isn't it?"
Unlike some of the other residents he had met in Cheyenne, Nick felt calm around this man, almost like he was a woman. Due to Nick's trauma, and having met a very forward man already he had not made any new male friends on his journey.
Lotad saw a flash of a Pokemon hiding behind the new mans legs. He saw the spiky Pokemon's gesture and cocked his head to the side. Blank stare stayed as he saw it and not long after, forgotten. With not a care in the world, Jimmy continued his dance in the rain. Due to his swift swim ability he was moving faster than looked natural.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] It's nice isn't it?. No, it wasn't fucking nice. It was humid and horrible and everything the opposite of nice, or at least in Reese's mind. Expression soured even further as he watched the Lotad splashing around in what may as well have been acid rain.
With a sigh, Reese swung his bag back over his arm. It was useless to try to hide from the rain, especially in such an odd way. He was suddenly self-conscious. Slick wet tendrils of hair stuck to the side of his face, sweat and rain and dirt mixing together to make an odd oily residue. With a grunt he gathered it up into a tight ponytail, securing it in place with a tie he kept around his wrist for just such occasions.
"I'm from Orre, sort of," he said lamely, shifting uncomfortably where stood. He wasn't sure what else to say that would explain his attitude about the rain. "Uhm, I like to write stuff down. Do you mind if I observe your lotad? It's doing some things that I haven't had a chance to see yet, disturbing though they are."
Without waiting for an answer, Reese withdrew his battered notebook and a pen. Flipping open to the next free page, he began to write in an odd combination of drawings and nonsensical words.
Revolve watched Jimmy curiously. Since his trainer was now busy, he felt vulnerable and annoyed and other feelings that he didn't like at all. He tugged on Reese's pant leg and made a whining sound.
"So," he said as he wrote, not bothering to look up from his notebook, "are you gay? Because every guy I've met so far has been gay."

Immediate response, "NOPE." his next thought was of relief, hearing his tone he knew that his anus was safe for another day. "Although I was thinking the same thing, the first person I met here...never-mind." Shaking off the memories he watched the strange man writing in his notebook. "Jimmy loves to dance, I wear this coat all the time because he might break out into a Rain Dance at any moment." Nick tugged on his trench coat.
It dawned on Nick that he had not introduced himself after drenching this poor sap. "By the way, my name is Nick, Nicholas Montgomery. I come from around here." Nick decided to explain further why he was on this secluded mountain, "I came up here today to see if the rumors about the woman in the mountain was true." Nicks gaze turned towards the hills he would be scaling, "I remember hearing about the story of the Absols when I was a kid, I never imagined how beautiful it would be out here." Even with the downpour, the mountains maintained their majesty. To Nick, who grew up with rain around him, the grey tones the clouds cast made the mountains seem more mysterious.
Noticing that the black hair man had not taken his hands off his notebook Nick decided to inquire about it, "What are you writing about my Lotad? No one has ever wanted to watch Jimmy for any extended period of time."
Jimmy, oblivious to the goings on around him, began a new dance. As was usual for Jimmy, he always seemed to go from rain dance to teeter dance. Jimmy jumped into the air spinning his lily-pad towards the person observing him. Landing, Jimmy immediately darted to the right and stopped abruptly so that he only balanced on his two right feet. Just as quickly as he had stopped he moved the the left and did the same motion. Nick watched and saw what was coming, putting his index finger and thumb on his temples to rub the impending headache away.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] Reese didn't look up just yet. "You replied a bit too quickly for a straight guy. Sure you don't have any skeletons in your closet? Or are you in there, too?" a smug smirk crossed his face. He finally put down his pen and shoved both the pen and the notebook back into his bag. "Your Lotad is fascinating to me. You see, I'm a scientist. I observe everything I see," it was hard to keep the smarm out of his voice.
He cleared his throat. "Your name is Nick? I'm Reese. I was going to study the wildlife but there doesn't seem to be any around... Your little legend sounds fascinating, but real people have to do real work. I can't just go chasing fairy tales," he peered from side to side, sharp dark gaze finally coming to rest on Jimmy.
It was then that Revolve made his move. The Teeter Dance had been too much. Confused and enraged, he lunged for the smaller pokemon, fist sparking with electricity. He'd only recently learned Thunderpunch and he wasn't great at controlling it just yet. He winced as he attacked, a few stray sparks stinging him as well. Non-native attack types were always difficult to execute, especially for a novice pokemon.
Reese shook his head. "Always rash, Revolve. What are you doing..." instead of recalling the cactus-pokemon, he withdrew his notebook again and began to write.

"I..Uh...you see there was this red head..ugh...bad memories." Nick stuttered. "Look, I am not gay, in fact I am afraid of men mostly..." Nick trailed off. Something about how Reese talked about the legend irked, "You're right, of course." Nick said through smiling teeth. "However the story about the absols was real. I'm sure a scientist would be interested in why a pack of absols stayed in the same place for so long." Nick put extra emphasis in speaking. "Also the Prin--Huh?" At that moment Reese's Pokémon lunged after his Lotad. The sparks flew around the road as the Pokémon rushed. "Jimmy! Look o--!" It was too late to warn his Pokémon. The electrically charged fist hit Lotad mid spin, dead-center on his lily-pad. Since he was in the air he flew several feet away. Burn marks were left where he had been hit. "Jimmy!" Running over to his Pokémon he checked him out. Lotad was damaged but he seemed fine and alert, he looked more surprised than anything. After assuring his Pokémon safety he sighed, "I figured this would happen, I should have told you my Lotad was using Teeter Dance." Seeing the cactus Pokémon looking around wildly he knew he was still confused. "Jimmy, use Growl." Nick wanted to reduce any more damage this confused Pokémon would cause. Lotad stood his ground and gathered his voice, "looooooo...". After a beat he let it out and assaulted the confused cactus with a vicious "TAD" Level 8, Male Abilities: Swift Swim and Rain Dish Attacks: Astonish, growl, teeter dance, Rain Dance, Absorb, Nature Power Recovered some health from Rain Dish Used: Growl! [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] If Reese would have had glasses, he'd have pushed them up his face as the glare of a computer monitor reflected off of them. "Absols are territorial. Even common trainers know that. They tend to have a set territory that they roam throughout their whole lives. This mountain, large as it looks to us, is actually pretty small. Besides Absol haven't been sighted here in years. As a scientist, I know these things," through his tough words, inside he was berating himself for not knowing more about the area. In fact he had no clue about Absols or the Tanali Mountain Range. But something about Nick's face pissed him off. Male pride, perhaps, but he'd defend his words to the death.
"Revolve," came Reese's stern voice. The Cacnea turned to face his trainer, a pathetic wimpy look on his face. Eyes teared up, he let out a shrill cry and rushed over to hug his legs again. "Sorry about that," he said to Nick, giving the cactus an affectionate shove with one of his boots. "He's impulsive and young. And very clingy. But I suspect if your Pokémon would have been female it would have been different. He's not afraid of female pokemon, he just has trouble with the boys for some reason," he shrugged.
Hand dipped into his bag and he pulled out another pokeball. "Especially this one. Fender?" the Dustox was loosed with the tap of a button. Moth disliked the rain, wings were coated with a fine dust which made the many colors even more vibrant. He alighted on Reese's head, annoyed.
Revolve peeked at the moth from the safety of his trainer's leg. A faint blush spread across his face and he continued to hide. Reese shrugged again. "No clue."

"Well shoot, Reese was it? I did not know that. I always figured they were solitary creatures, seeing as how they are rumored to bring disaster. Or was it foretell disaster?" Nick mused to himself. Looking back up, "Either way you sure know a lot! ha-ha!" Nick laughed stupidly. After hearing Reese's apology he responded by putting his hands up, "It's quite alright! Like I said, Jimmy used teeter dance, so it was inevitable!" Nick wondered about his comment about Revolves trouble with boys, maybe he was like Nick? Afraid of men so he lashed out easier? Nick watched the beautiful moth plop on Reese's head and had to hold back a giggle. it looked really funny, especially with the stern look Reese had on his face. "Wow what a pretty moth" To use a very relevant cliche, Nick was drawn to the Pokemon like a moth to a flame, he had never seen a Pokemon like this up close. Nick reached up his hand to touch the gentle moth, its wings looked very soft, even wet. Nick was too enthralled with the Pokemon on the trainers head to worry about the one at his legs. Jimmy looked at the other green Pokemon and raised both of his eyebrows (or the parts that would equal eyebrows, just skin really). Jimmy got an idea about this cactus and shuddered a bit, oh what those thick needles could be used for! Rain turn 3/5

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] Reese studied Nick's face for a few moments. Was that a smile he saw? When Nick suddenly bolted closer and attempted to touch Fender, Reese put both hands out, palms open, and placed them against Nick's chest. "Whoa, whoa, slow down there. What do you think you're doing? I told you I wasn't gay," now it was his turn to be flustered. Not many people dared to come this closet to him, and even fewer were men. But Cheyenne was a strange place. Straight guys may as well have been legendary pokemon. They just flat didn't exist!
Fender didn't seem to notice his trainer's discomfort. He flew a few feet, propelled by his spotted wings, and landed on Nick's shoulder. Fuzzy antennae brushed against the boy's cheek. Bold moth wasn't afraid of anything!
Revolve stole a peek at Jimmy. Slowly he crept out from behind his trainer and extended a shaky hand to the Lotad. <T-truce?>

Nick looked down at the trainer who was misunderstanding his motives, “Wha..?” Nick was pushed back. “That’s not what I was doing! I wanted to touch your moth pokemon.” Nick did not remember that Fender was a Dustox, he just knew it looked cool. Before Nick could say any more the moth landed on his shoulder. “ehehe” he was happy to feel the weight of the pokemon there. The pokemon’s antennae tickled his cheek. Scratching the tickled area a question formed, “This pokemon is light! How can it fly in this heavy rain?” Nick put out his hands, palms up, to indicate the rain around them. Below the trainers, was their green pokemon. Lotad looked over at the prickly one hiding behind some legs. Jimmy popped an eyebrow at the crowned pokemon’s question, “Truce? Were we fighting?” Jimmy had not seen the very powerful attack earlier as a sign of aggression; he knew that Revolve had no control over his actions there. Looking at Revolves hand he knew the pokemon was looking for a shake, to the best of his ability he hiked up onto two legs and landed one of his legs on the cactus pokemons hand. Unfortunately for Jimmy, he happened to land on one of the spines on Revolves arm. Yelping, Lotad jumped backwards and fell over, “Oops, that was my bad…” Rain turn 4/5

Random event! Some of the rocks on the mountain are starting to fall!
Is something up on the mountains? Or is the spirit of Tanali a teasing one at that? Who knows really what is going on to make them fall. Maybe brainiac knows something about what causes random rock slides.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] If Fender could have made a cooing noise, he would have. He felt Nick's fingers brush lightly against him, and he puffed up his chest with pride. He knew he was GORGEOUS. He didn't need any validation, but it sure was nice.
He took off again into the air, dust turning slick with oil as the water ran off his wings and body. It was sort of his own waterproof coating, allowing flight in all kinds of weather.
Reese watched as the graceful Dustox wheeled and turned in the air, careful not to fly too high. "His body may be light but his wings are very powerful, and he's narrow. Each water droplet doesn't weigh much by itself. He can beat his wings faster to accelerate the speed at which the water flies off, and see how shiny his wings got? They're oily now. The water just runs right off," man sounded almost bored, explaining such a simple concept to Nick.
Then he heard a noise. "What the, what was that?" dark eyes peered around. Fender descended, landing on Reese's head again. He felt the earth below his feet start to shake, just briefly but enough to cause alarm. "I think your damned rain is loosening the rocks. It rarely rains up here, and while I'm sure whatever plants are left are enjoying their brief drink of water, the soil isn't use to it. It's starting to shift..."
Recalling Revolve to his pokeball, Reese's grip tightened on his backpack. He wasn't sure what to do. Every muscle in his body was tense, and he waited for Nick to say something.

Watching Fender take off again he felt some regret that he had had him longer. Adjusting his trench coat, Nick listened to Reese's explanation intently. It was like having a tour guide!
As the boulders started to crumble above, Nick moved away from the hillside.
To Reese's accusation Nick sighed and said, "yeah...you are probably right. I am used to this sort of thing. It happens when you are followed by rain." Nicks voice gave away the sense of unease he felt about the whole situation. Looking up, he squinted through the rain to see if he could catch a glimpse of what might be causing the rock slide. To no avail though, Rain Dance had effectively blinded him of anything further than 20 feet away.
Jimmy dug his legs into the dirt a little bit to gain a more stable footing. Once rooted, Jimmy wore a face of contentment, he was not worried about anything.
Nick thought that the amount coming down looked abnormal, "Reese, don't you there there are more rocks coming down than normal for a simple land slide?" Nick pointed to the larger boulders falling that would have probably stayed in place through a shiticane.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,485][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/2d0nzpv.gif][atrb=cellpadding,15px,true] Reese sighed. "Probably. There are tons of rocks up here. Unless you happen to have a golem or rhydon handy, we're not going to be able to stop them from falling. That's nature for you. Or at least it should have been," he growled, casting a glare at Jimmy. Fender tucked his wings closer to his body, antennae sticking straight up. The rain was, in a word, refreshing. Although trainer wasn't used to such a downpour, it was nice for a change. Hailing from the desert left one reveling in any sort of water sports, which probably meant most people from orre were huge perverts. Even so, it was nice. Reese closed his eyes, tilting his head to the sky and removed his glasses. Then he heard another rumble. "Shit," he said, wiping his glasses clean (although the water just smeared the dirt around) and putting them back on. "We should probably find some well rooted larger rocks for safety. There aren't any shelters around here, especially not for rock slides, because well. As I explained earlier, it never rains..." he glared at Jimmy again. Truthfully he had no clue if there were shelters around. He never bothered to check, and he had no use for maps. They gave such irrelevant information. "Let's go."

"Right, I agree with you there. Let's head up the path further!" Nick pointed uphill. He thought that getting to higher ground would allow them safety from falling rocks. Jimmy took no notice of the blades Syl's eyes were throwing. He was content to continue to dance around in the mud.
As Nick started forward on the path, careful to watch where rocks might be falling, the rain subsided. The clouds dissipated as if a leaf blower the size of a wailord suddenly materialized on the far east side of the sky. It took no more than a few minutes for the heat to return at full force.
"Ugh, even if my Jimmy's rain caused this landslide, I'd prefer it to the heat." Jimmy, on the other hand, seemed just as energetic as in the rain. Nick was jealous of his pokemons ability to thrive in the sun and the rain.
"Syl, you are smart, right? How could a little rain dislodge such large rocks?" Nick pointed to a rock that looked like it had not moved for eons, "That rock over there was probably so rooted an exploding Electrode could not move it!" Nick was trying to make conversation while walking to take his mind of the heavy heat.
