And so it was time. Time for Jade to begin her adventure... even though it was still early in the morning by normal people standards. With her starter, a Porygon, trailing silently behind her, and some bug she got as a Christmas present in its Pokeball tucked safely in her pocket, she was all ready to get going and have adventure and catch something new and all the typical new trainer stuff and-
"AAAH DARNIT" she cried, almost tripping on a rock. Again. Being blind, she wouldn't notice rocks with her aura vision unless she was specifically looking out for them and she sure wasn't doing that while thinking about the adventure she was going to have when she stopped tripping on the darn things.
It was like a vicious cycle, except less life-ruining and more toe-stubbing.
Gosh darnit.

Boy was she entertaining, almost tripping on a rock just like that. She sure was lulzy and a bit ridiculous and the Rufflet could not help but laugh at her when he landed on the floor. >Hello!< He said to Jade as he flopped next to her. His father had already left by then, trusting that his Rufflet would be safe.

Just as Jade had managed to regain her balance and was just about to start paying attention to the ground, a distraction tumbled right out of the sky in the form of a fluffy warm birdish aura. It greeted her with laughter and a hello. Sounded like a little boy. Definitely a bird.
"What oh hey. I heard you laughing just now. You making fun of my disability? Why would you do that? Why are you laughing at the poor blind girl?" Jade said. However, she didn't sound serious in the slightest. In fact, she was laughing a bit herself. It wasn't like with the professor where she had to act all nice... this was a bird, so she could be herself. "Nice to meet you, man. My name's Jade."
Mithos, meanwhile, tilted his head in confusion and floated around to observe from a better point. Why was she laughing at herself? That was... strange. He didn't get it at all. The Porygon wasn't really made to understand, of course... but he did want to.

The rufflet tilted his head as he saw the trainer laugh at herself; what was so funny then? H e hadn't said anything funny at all, so what could of caused the laughter then? "Excuse miss, but Im really confused at the minute." The rufflet said as the trainer finished her speach about her disability. Now this was very very strange now.
" What do you mean by a disability miss; as I can't see anything wrong with you." The rufflet said as he hopped up to her, trying to look for some evidence. "Also, why where you laughing to yourself a minute ago? Did I say something funny?" he said, before sitting on the ground.

"Um yeah, I'm blind. Can't see. These stupid rocks are totally aware of that and keep getting in my way," Jade said. She felt for the rock that had tripped her earlier with her foot, since her aura vision was completely blinded as far as the ground went by that birdy thing. Ah, there it was. She proceeded to kick it several feet down the path... not in the Rufflet's direction, of course, that would be mean.
Oh wait. Now that she didn't know where it was she was probably gonna trip on it again. Crap.
"Sorry if I totally weirded you out there. I... guess I don't look blind, I wouldn't know..." she added, deciding to forget about the rock for now. "I like joking about it sometimes. Makes it better."

He could not tell at all as he saw her talking to him the entire time so it did not look that way at all. But when she had trouble kicking the rock, he knew immediately that she might not have been lying after all. But the fact that she kicked it at a direction, not at him, made it seem as if she had some vision since she knew where he was and made sure not to kick him.
He quickly and curious crept closer to Jade to make sure she was 100% and not trying to punk him or something. Inching closer, and closer, looking at the girl and then at the Porygon as he moved in. >So... Where am I now? Can you see me now?< He asked, boy that was a bit rude and disrespectful. Not in his intention at all although it came out that way.

Even if she hadn't been able to see the eagle's aura, her ears tilted to catch the sound, and she could pinpoint his location perfectly between the two.
"Dude, that isn't gonna work. I can hear you, you're right there," Jade said, folding her arms. He didn't believe her about being blind, okay. Yeah, with how well she generally managed to function with her aura vision, she could understand why. She reached down and patted the bird on the head, and was surprised at the amount of poof. "Oh hey, you're poofy. Wow. I thought you were smaller than that." The surprise in her voice was genuine- feathers didn't show up on aura vision.
<What advantage would she gain in lying to you?> Mithos interrupted all of a sudden. Jade's ears twitched in surprise. That was the first thing the Porygon had said since she got him. She had nearly forgotten that he was there.

RUFFLET APPEARED ! The Rufflet didn't feel an ounce of shame in asking the blind girl if she knew where he was. He wasn't surprised when the girl turned her head to him. <Ha! You can se-> He started to say until the human explained that she was using her hearing. Hmm... but he still had an inch of doubt that he couldn't get past. Suddenly she reached her hand out and patted him, which made him feel like a little chick. With his wings he batted the hands away. <I'm a big bird, that's why!> He protested with a huff.
The curious call of the pokemon caused him to turn his attention to it. What an odd question. He tapped his wing feathers on his chin in thought before shrugging. <Humans lie to pokemon a lot. That's what my dad said to me.> He explained.

"You're not that big under all that floof," Jade muttered, chuckling, though she didn't try to pat the bird again. He was awkward, but he acted pretty cute. And definitely friendly enough.
<Lying is usually done in order to make something happen, or stop something from happening, though. Even if humans do lie, nothing would happen or not happen if Jade was lying to you about being blind. So a Pokemon can infer that she is most likely not lying,> Mithos said. The Porygon blinked twice. This... just seemed like basic logic to him. That Rufflet was strange. Jade was definitely blind, he could tell... little things, like how she didn't notice rocks, couldn't read, never mentioned colors, and her eyes just never quite seemed focused. Of course, the Rufflet wouldn't have known her long enough to have noticed this. Perhaps he should mention it. <I can assure you, having been observing her a decent while longer than you have, that she is actually blind.> There we go.

RUFFLET APPEARED ! Rufflet pouted at the human, not enjoying her comments about how he was small underneath his feathers. Pfft, he was a big bird, and one day he was going to be a gigantic eagle like his grandfather! He didn't comment, though, since the Porygon caught his attention with his extended explanation. He blanked halfway through but managed to keep listening until the end. <Oh... okay.> He replied, looking like he didn't understand but was trying to.
His confirmation that she was blind made him shrug once more. Then he relented just a bit. <Alright, alright, whatever you saaay.> He said sarcastically, grinning at the both of them, impatiently trying to change the subject. He still didn't believe them, but he wanted to say something else.
<Keep this a secret from my dad, but I want to battle with you.> He said in a hushed whisper. <He says I can't battle with trainers, but I really, really want to!> The young bird confessed, looking a little flustered at the idea of disobeying his dad. He was scary when he was mad... but the chick wanted to take the risk anyway.

Well, that was a surprise. The fluffy birdy wanted a trainer battle.
"Okay, sure, but only if you agree to take the blame if your dad comes by and notices," Jade said, the corner of her mouth twitching into a smile. This would be her first battle with a wild Pokemon, and it was a good Pokemon to be fighting. A friendly, somewhat oddball bird. "It'll be you versus Mithos here."
Mithos made a faint digital noise at this, to say that he was okay with that. It was what he was supposed to do, after all.

RUFFLET APPEARED ! The Rufflet immediately beamed when the trainer agreed to his proposal, but became a little anxious when she mentioned that his dad might come by. Confirming the possibility, he turned to look around and see if he was lurking nearby. <Nah, he won't come by.> He responded defiantly, a challenging gleam in his eyes. As if he was going to chicken out of this!
<Alrighty, I'm ready!> He cried out before aiming a Leer at the robotic pokemon. Then he rushed towards him, attempting a Peck on him.

"Awesome, then," Jade said to the Rufflet's initial statement that his dad wasn't going to show up. She hadn't even moved back to make room for the battle when the bird tried to leer at her Porygon. Since it hadn't actually begun, Mithos felt no need to acknowledge this.
Mithos floated there, and was waiting an order from Jade when he was pecked. Huh. That was uncomfortable.
"Uhh..." Jade had been quickly consulting her little Pokedexy device thingy on what a Porygon would be able to do. "Conversion 2, and then tackle!"
Ah yes, this he could do. His programming activated, analyzing the last move he was hit with. Peck... flying type... flying was resisted by rock-type. <Type shift initiated,> the digital Pokemon stated calmly. His "skin" resurfaced itself instantly with a rocky texture, still pinkish but now resembling a crystal, the blue parts similarly changed.
This done, he darted forwards, attempting to ram into the bird Pokemon.

His father, a mighty Braviary, had always advised him to use caution against opponents that fought with a worthy air to them. The Rufflet was thinking of this statement as he circled the Porygon. It looked strange; the Pokemon was very angular, it had wide white eyes with tiny black pupils and appeared to have no arms.
Wouldn't that suck though? To have no arms... Well, Rufflet had talons to pick things up with, and his beak, but he would probably die in a matter of days should he lose his wings. He doubted that would happen in this battle though, so he shrugged the thought away. Just as he did he was struck by a very hard object, and at first he thought it was a rock until he saw the grainy, earthy texture that the Porygon had shielded itself with.
“Alright then,” the Rufflet trilled and flew up high, performing a barrel roll before he swooped down, leering at the Porygon before he tried to peck it with his Fury Attack.

Mithos was not particularly impressed by the Rufflet's attempt at an evil glare. His programming was, though, and slightly lowered his resistance to damage in response.
Darn programming. Sometimes, when he managed to think beyond his programmed restraints and feel flickers of true emotion, he cursed that coding that kept him so bound.
"Ooh, you know Aerial Ace? Dang, Mithos, that's awesome. Try Sharpen and then that," Jade said, luckily managing to break her attention from the Pokedex scan of her 'Mon in time to give him commands. It was lucky because he would not have been able to act if she hadn't.
For the second time, the Porygon's body resurfaced itself, only this time, it focused on the angular edges of his body, sharpening them a bit. As the Rufflet dove at him, though, he didn't have time to move out of the way. The bird's beak chipped at him a few times, though luckily it didn't hurt much because of his type change.
He backed up a bit, and targeted a spot just behind the Rufflet. With a movement so fast he was practically invisible, he zipped to that spot in the blink of an eye, one sharpened Porygon-"foot" held out to slice at the air and hopefully Rufflet occupying the intermediate space.

I can take that!" The zealous little Rufflet didn't even flinch away from the oncoming attack. He spread his wings wide and took the full force of the attack in the chest. It instantly pushed all of the wind from his lungs and he coughed loudly. Some point between impact and hitting the ground he realized that his plan hadn't been the best idea. It hurt. Bad. He groaned and rolled over onto his feet, taking back to the air he flew towards Mithos again. He came in low, trying to perform a "fly by peck attack" and quickly zip away and out of attacking range.

While Jade hadn't seen anything more than the blur of auras zipping around, if she had been able to see the fight she would probably be cheering and calling it awesome. As it was, she thought for a moment. Judging by the way Aerial Ace had knocked that birdy right out of the air, it must be pretty strong. "Okay, Mithos, use that attack again," she said, grinning. This was fun... though it would be more fun if she wasn't blind. Ah well. Not like she could do anything about that. <Repeat attack pattern confirmed,> the Porygon said, his programming taking over for his thought. This was a battle, and thinking could run in the background. The Rufflet swooped in to peck him just as he locked on to a spot directly behind it. The Rufflet managed to nick him with its beak as he zipped past with his attack and turned to see the damage. That was starting to sting a little, even with his resistance to it. the porygon was flying through the air, like an acrobat through the air. it was fun to watch, at least until it flew around and hit him. then it wasn't exactly fun, it was more of a "ow it hurts!" type of thing. > ouch! < actually, he did let out this little yelp of surprise as the beak made contact with his plush fur.
next, the rufflet gave an intense glare at the other. he felt like a lion, rampaging through the corn fields -- oh wait, that was a movie. > rawrgh! < he let out, before flying at the other, beak ready to make contact. take that, you evil fiend!

Oh no, not this glare thing again. His resistance to damage automatically lowered, while the part of him still focused on thinking rolled its mental eyes. That Rufflet was anything but scary. This shouldn't work, but it did because he was programmed to fight fairly. And while he was getting mildly annoyed at this and waiting on Jade to give him a command, it pecked him again. Now it was hurting as much as the first time, with each strike...
"Try using Sharpen again this time and then attack," Jade called. She was getting the hang of this, yay! Pokemon battles were awesome. Kind of.
<Generic attack command. Selecting random offensive attack,> Mithos said while the sharp angles of his body became even sharper. Some things about being a digital concept materialized in the real world were very handy. The random selection landed on Tackle, and he darted out with less of the speed and precision of Aerial Ace but more of his weight behind the strike.

::rufflet:: pokemon encounter ! the rufflet had his wings outstretched. hoping that he could calculate when to avoid the attack. he did.. sort of. it was a pathetic shot at dodging. poor timing, really. at the porygon charged him, the rufflet got all nervous because of the sharpened edges. he appeared stronger now. and he was distracted by this fact. so, at the last possible second--for him-- the rufflet leaped into the air. only to be tripped and crumpled to the ground afterwards because his talons had been clipped. he landed in a heap, struggling to unfold his wings in the process. he had himself pinning them down. he grunted, flopping all over the place.
however, once he had managed to get himself sitting on his tail feathers, the rufflet squeaked. then hopped up and spread his wings again. he batted the air furiously, slowly hoisting himself into the air. he vaulted himself at the porygon, screaming < hiyaaah! > at the top of his lungs. his beak stretched, glowing white. while doing this, he was leering at him. lowering his defense. then, whether or not the peck attack hit or not. the rufflet went and landed on the ground with a huff. impressive.. -cool shades here-
