He couldn't help but snicker as he remembered the vivid image of Professor Winter clutching his backside, dancing towards the bathroom like someone had just shoved a rod up his arse. Beside him, Cinder shook her head and trudged through the snow, her ears alert and nose twitching as she took in the forest scents around her.
Damp logs, damp leaves, musk, the odd bit of moss. Sighing, a plume of white smoke streamed out from her nostrils and she turned her attention back to Gary, who was on the phone to his Grandfather.
“Yeah, well I've already got a Cyndaquil from the- Don't you “Hey Wanker!” me! My name isn't Wanker!” Gary protested loudly, his eyes smouldering with annoyance. “It's Gary! Don't you remember!?” She didn't catch whatever it was that his Grandfather said next, and didn't really care much for the matter.
Noise from his irate phonecall faded out as she concentrated on the path up ahead. There were no signs so she didn't even know if they were still on the footpath or not. All that she saw was a parting in the canopy of naked branches above her head, and the barren, winding parting between the two flanks of trees on either side.
Gary grumbled something and set the phone down, shaking his head. “I swear he's suffering from name dementia or something. Is there even a condition where you forget someones' name? I mean I've lived there all of my-”
“Fuck not given.” Cinder interrupted bluntly, branching off to skirt around a rock before rejoining her trainer. “Shut up and keep moving, will you?”
Gary's brow almost shot off his forehead, and his face would have broken if his jaw had stretched any wider. “Excuse me!?” He shouted, “Is that any way to talk to your-Ahhhh!” Gary screamed as he was sent cannoning off the side of a small ridge. A few seconds later he hit the ground, Cinder skidding downed with a bored expression on her face on the trail his arse had left behind.
“Be thankful you don't need to change your shorts.”

Prefers to let others do his dirty work. Not far from where Gary was making his way down the path fo Route 1, a very determined Ekans was making his way out of a bush; he was thinking of the numerous ways of how to channel his way into the other cities and routes to the poison pokemon the dwelled there. His plans for an poison type organization was going to be hard, but it would be worth it in the end run. He looked up when he saw the the trainer making his way down the path, in his direction as well. Realising the consequences of being caught by a trainer could ruin his plans, he dived into a near-by bush in the hopes he hadn't bee seen; however unfortunately for him his tail was poking out so it was quite obvious.

Now she was finding it hard to believe that she was stuck with him. As he heaved himself up off of the ground and dusted off his white lab coat, sighing in the frosted winter night air, his eye caught something lurking in the bushes.
It was small, yellow with several bulbs attached to one another. Taking a few cautionary steps forward, he pulled out a torch from his pocket and flicked it on. It looked like a tail. A tail that looks like it belongs to some sort of rattlesnake. An Ekans – of course!
It couldn't really be anything other than an Ekans. They were a Poison type, usually with the ability Intimidate and Shed Skin, because they needed to shed the skin as they grew. “I've seen Ekans before and done research on them. They're fairly common in the Kanto Region, especially in grasslands. But to be out in such cold weather...”
Perhaps it is trying to hunt, he thought. I'm sure there are some Hoothoot around that would make a nice meal for it... But to be hiding it clearly doesn't feel safe with me here. But I haven't managed to see whether or not it can-
“You want me to fight it?” Cinder interrupted his thought patterns, observing the Ekans' tail coldly. “Or are you just gonna stare at it for a few hours to see if it's alive? Do you want a stick so you can poke it?” Instinctively, being a Fire Mouse Pokémon – mice being prey of reptiles – Cinder was a little bit agitated. An unwelcome churning feeling in her gut was telling her to flee, and the flames atop her back extinguished with a tiny crackle.
Should we disturb it? Gary moved slightly closer and bent on one knee, reaching for his notepad. It might be hunting for it's young, in which case I wouldn't want to disturb it. But there doesn't seem to be any Pokémon around here... Wouldn't it be hunting somewhere with prey?
“Alright, but be careful,” Gary nodded, giving the go-ahead. Pulling out the Pokedex, he aimed it at Cinder and read her current attack roster. “Psychic type moves on a Poison type Pokémon are very effective. Cinder, use Extrasensory!”
Cinder's closed eyes glowed slightly as she concentrated her energy onto the snake hidden in the bushes. Her body relaxed, and shimmering pulses of blue energy converged into the center of her body before it rippled out towards the hidden Ekans.

He squeaked when he heard the trainer talking about in in the human tongue, and seeing that the act was up he slithered right out of his hiding place. The bushes rattled as his body brushed against them, making some snow fall off at his official entrance. <Sssoo, you fools dare challenge--> Bam, Extrasensory to the face. It made him stop mid-sentence as he felt the psychic type move play with his mind, breathing in an exotic mix of smells as he started seeing spots. There were spots everywhere! His head shifted left and right in a daze until the attack settled down, leaving the Ekans feeling quite unsettled after that first hit. It was definitely one of his weaknesses, and he hated this kind of sorcery! <Need a lesssson, do you?> This Ekans was quite cowardly, glaring at the Cyndaquil for acting so hostile towards him. How was he going to be a leader at this rate? In retaliation, he spit out several Poisonous Stingers at the Cyndaquil in an attempt to make it mind its own business. Then a thought came to him-- what if they attacked back after this? Oh no, that wasn't right! In his haste he halted his attack and started to slither away, not wanting this confrontation to grow into a full-fledged battle. ::ekans:: Level 8 - Male Shed Skin Wrap | Leer | Poison Sting Personality: Wants to be an leader of an organization of poison types, however he is rather timid when it comes to confronting a person or Pokémon. Gary felt a shiver run down his spine as Cinder smirked slightly, seeing the Ekans's boastful proclamation cut off. From what he'd seen so far of her attitude, that definitely didn't seem natural, and he made another mental note to talk to her so he could find out more about her personality.
The Ekans seemed to be dazed by the Extrasensory perception that he'd just experienced. Gary's eyes roamed it's body, looking for details. No defining traits, and it didn't look too skinny or large to be healthy. In all it looked quite “normal” for what he'd seen in Ekans.
Poisonous barbs nicked at Cinder's shoulders and she rocked back on her haunches, attempting to knock a few of the darts away from her face. From the way that it stung, clearly the Ekans was a few levels over her, which meant that it would be more of a challenge.
“Need a lesssson, do you?” Sharp yellow eyes latched onto Cinder's body but it didn't seem to be a leer. Neither was she intimidated by the glare, but she was intimidated by what it might like to eat. As it tried to flee, Cinder's brow furrowed. Hell no.
“Coward!” She hissed, racing forward in an attempt to subdue it before it could get away. Gary stood in stunned shock as the Fire Mouse Pokemon chased after the Snake Pokemon. Surely this was the other way around?
“Fight or flight mode?” Gary rasped to himself quietly. Well it would make sense. Fight or Flight mode was the instinct that took over when one's own life was in danger. Either they would try to fight the source of the threat or they would attempt to flee.
“Fight mode,” he corrected himself. “Cinder, stop! Let the Ekans go!”
Cinder refused to obey. Instead she careened over the grass after the Ekans, bunching her muscles, her belly skimming the floor lightly. “I thought you were going to teach me a lesson! Seeing as you've changed your mind, let me teach you one! It's about turning your back on a foe!”
Leering at the Ekans, she attempted to tackle it back away from the bushes. Seeing the Cyndaquil in such a state, he really didn't want to stop her, or to harm her. Breaking her trust so quickly after receiving her from the Starter Lab was the last thing he really wanted to do.
“Cinder!” He called out urgently, “I know you want to fight the Ekans! But let's do this together rather than on our own!”

Luckily for the snake pokemon, the attack wasn't as strong as the Cyndaquil would have hoped, especially seeing how the Ekans was of a much higher level. It showed the snake pokemon that he had a chance to win, but then again... Was it worth getting beaten up some more?
It was now or never. Fight or Flight. Flight? Fight? He quickly pondered before he coiled his tail and attempted to wrap it around the Cyndaquil to choke the life out of the fire mouse. It seemed the decision was made, fight it is. >You want to fight me?! You don't know who you are going against! Let me show you true strength!< He said as he wrapped himself around the Cyndaquil and attempted to squeeze. The only problem was, his strangle-hold wasn't the strongest ever seeing how he was a bit timid still with his attack. He still wasn't fully in it.

No matter how she twisted or turned, she couldn't break free, and her lips parted in an angered snarl as pain ran through her body.
“Cinder!” Gary called out. He'd seen this attack many times before, but that didn't mean he was prepared to dodge it every time. He was hoping that Cinder would have taken it upon herself to try and avoid the attack but either she hadn't had time, she was too close, or she just hadn't bothered to even try.
“If this is your true strength,” spat the Cyndaquil towards the rattlesnake's face spitefully, “Then I have little to worry about. Let me show you mine.” This time she didn't even bother to listen to her trainer, who had called out the same attack anyway.
She focused her energy into a single point. Pulses of psychic energy flowed over her body and she sent them at point blank range straight towards the Ekans. Adrenaline served to make the attack a tiny bit stronger than the last, but partly it was because she wanted to get out of his Wrap.
This was generally the position that one would be caught in when they were about to be eaten by a serpent, though it was a little bit shabby, as though the Ekans wasn't completely focusing on his own attack. In which case, how can this be his true strength? He's faltering. Weak. He might as well grovel on the ground and get stepped on.
“Cinder, listen to me!” Gary shouted firmly. He didn't like how Cinder was disregarding his orders and blatantly ignoring him. In the thick of battle a trainer and Pokemon were meant to fight together, right? Where there was disunity, there was weakness, and where there was weakness, there was the chance for defeat or even death, in some instances. “Cinder!”

While having a foe under his Wrap's spell, it could keep doing damage for a small period of time while letting him do whatever the heck he wanted. If he wanted to chill out, then that worked. Poison Sting? Sure thing, why not. This time he was more motivated to strangle the life out of this trash talking little mouse, especially after the things she was telling him. It was enough to make his eyes twitch until the attack it, nearly making him let go as he howled in pain. <Not letting go!> He spat spitefully, wanting to make her suffer as his body shriveled up from the damage. He was feeling weak, naturally, but he was not going to relent on his attack. He added extra pressure from an additional wrap, trying to make it so he could keep her trapped in his slithering body for a little while longer. <Cry uncle and I'll let go~> He teased, hoping that she really would say 'Uncle' so he could get the hell out of here. Gary was fruitlessly making orders from behind, which was mostly ignored by everyone in the area. Only a few birds in the trees were frightened off, returning to their respective branches when they saw that nothing important was happening below them. To be honest, after this experience the Ekans had little reason to respect Gary either. If the Cyndaquil was like this to him, then why bother listening to the guy? But truth be told he wasn't like that. Nope, and he wasn't about to let the Fire Mouse disregard his orders either, even if she did eventually do what he wanted. While he wasn't a control freak, he wasn't laid back enough to let it slide by.
Wrap was a generally weak move overall. Not as powerful as Tackle, that was for sure, but it did cause some additional damage each turn that it was continued. Air was squeezed out of Cinder's lungs and she snorted quietly, her head angling up as she pointed her snout towards the hissing reptile. Because her ribs were pushing against the force of the attacks and her, it was hard for her to speak.
“Go... Fuck... Yourself...” She taunted, blind rage building up in her belly. Able to move her arm, she tried to dig it into the Ekans's abdomen to get him to release her, while she tried to summon some flame on her back. In either case she'd love to see the Ekans squirm as she turned up the heat in this battle.
Gary didn't think that Cinder was taking too much damage this turn. Maybe if the Ekans used its Poison Sting attack, there'd be more to worry about, but at the moment all that was going on was the Wrap. “Cinder, use Extrasensory! And this time try to back it up with a Leer!”
This time, realising that she couldn't escape from the Ekans' grip on her own, Cinder obeyed. Dark eyelashes burned a vivid blue as she eyed the Ekans, trying to distract him enough from the energy that was causing a pleasant tingle to run down her sides.
Good! She listened to me this time, Gary thought, mildly pleased. I hope this is just a phase. I mean she's still young and her first battle was against a species that tends to eat rodents. Maybe it's just because of the Ekans' ability, Intimidate, that caused a bit of a side effect...? I'm not sure. I should study this further. In the next battle I'll see if she does the same.

[STYLE=border-bottom: 5px solid #FFC7FF;] [/style] The ekans had finally finished it's move, but even as it was getting ready to finish off the cyndaquil, the unexpected happened. How could he let his prey beat him at his own game? This wasn't cool at all and he really didn't want anything bad to happen to him at all, maybe the trainer would at least take remorse on him despite his cruel actions. Oh, he was going to be the best there ever was, to beat all the rest, and put them to the test. The song hummed through his head as he felt himself getting ready to bite the cyndaquil, but even as the ekans was on his way to do so. The attack seemed more powerful than normal, but it was maybe due to just his type or else he wouldn't have been having such trouble against the little pokemon. Ekans would know not to mess with this cyndaquil ever again if his life depended on it, but he couldn't even slither away now as his tail curled up at the end. This eyes gave the distinct sign they were closed as he lay there on his side and the leer had weakened his defenses further. Once more, he was hoping to at least get a new place to live after this, but if this trainer left him here...hell a bidoof could come by to eat him. That would have been horrific, and the last time it happened, the ekans had slithered away as fast as it could from that cannibalistic bidoof. That was insane, and he didn't think they would even do that since they were herbivores. Back to the matter at hand, he was passed out, and now capturable. ::ekans:: Level 8 - Male Shed Skin Wrap | Leer | Poison Sting Personality: Wants to be an leader of an organization of poison types, however he is rather timid when it comes to confronting a person or Pokémon. Around her the Ekans' grip loosened and she wriggled her way free from the poison type's grip. Gary gave a nod of approval, rushing over to crouch beside it and rest a hand on it's... Back. Or side. The shoulder area. Just go with that.
“Still alive,” his brow raised, impressed. But he didn't want to leave it on the road to be eaten by anything. Not needing its services any farther, he assessed the damage to it's body and then settled it down in a makeshift den by an old Oran Berry bush.
“You did a very good job, Cinder! Are you feeling okay?” She didn't seem too beaten up, but she was leaning in favour of one side than the other. Rather than look away like he thought she might, she held his gaze, level and steady.
“Fine,” she muttered. “No thanks to you.”
Dumbstruck, Gary's jaw dropped open. “You didn't listen to what I was telling you! Instead of going off on your own, you should have listened to my instructions!”
Snorting haughtily, Cinder rolled her eyes. Sorta. “You were taking a life age! What were you doing? Thinking of whether or not you should have caught this thing when it finished using me for a chew toy?”
“No! I was examining your abilities and trying to figure out what would work best! And as for time, it won't happen again once I've discerned what you can handle. I-”
Having had enough, Cinder sucked in a breath, flared the flame on her back and spat a small stream of fire straight at Gary. It shut him up, covering him in soot, and he coughed once, the white of his eyes wide and disbelieving.
“Can we go now?”

A very young man watched from behind the trees as Gary battled the ekans and eventually won. He snorted with laughter and walked forwards, revealing himself. "You call that a fire type? She barely won that match and didn't listen to you at all!" he laughed out loud and reached into his pocket for a pokeball.
"Battle me and I'll show you an obedient fire pokemon," he said with a snide grin. Clearly the age difference here didn't faze him at all. He was a pretty bratty kid. He threw the ball to the ground and his Pokémon burst out. <Well hello there lovely lady> Brutus crooned as he flexed his mini muscles.

Well now that the Ekans had been dealt with and Cinder had levelled up a bit, there was nothing really to stay around for. He had his own Ekans already, courtesy of the Articuno Vision event.
Cinder cast one last look at the Ekans, disgusted. It was hard to believe that the ugly rattle snake had told her to “cry uncle”. Sure, she hadn't done it, but the very thought of it made her lip curl and her flames blaze with anger atop her back.
“Right, Cinder, let's get going.” Gary's tone was almost bored, as though he couldn't find anything really to suit his interest in the area. As the two moved to stand atop the path, however, a taunting voice sounded from behind him.
The immediate reaction from Gary was one of surprise – how had he missed this youth hiding amongst the foliage? He had been examining every nook and cranny as soon as he'd arrived to get a good look of the area. I must be getting too complacent. Either that, he arrived after I looked around, or he's just not interesting enough for me to notice.
Still, Gary didn't want a spectacle, or a stalker observing his matches. However, when the kid went on to insult Cinder, he refused to accept it. Sure, there had been a few issues, but it had been their first ever battle. They had scarcely had time to develop a bond of trust, understanding or acceptance.
“You talk pretty high of yourself for such a snarky child. You don't seem very experienced for a trainer, if you're judging Pokémon based on a single battle.” Gary buried his hands in his pockets, eyes narrowing slightly at Brutus. “And yes, I call my Cyndaquil a fire type Pokémon. Don't you see fire spouting from her back?”
“Stuck up kids like you should be castrated,” Cinder jibed harshly towards Copper, disinterested in the battle offer. “Do yourself a favour. Don't breed. Ever.”
Gary really wasn't interested in battling this guy either, but as soon as he released the Darumaka, Gary's thoughts immediately changed. Out of all of the regions he'd explored, he couldn't remember such a Pokemon, and he'd pretty much seen them all. Well, excluding those from the Unova region, anyway.
“Cinder, if you're up to a battle...?”
“I think I can hold my own.”
“Alright then. Smokescreen and Extrasensory, if you will...”

"More experienced than you I bet", the kid retorted, "You can't even control your starter!"
Copper clearly had no idea who Gary was and must have been under the impression that he was a starter on his first journey, despite his age. But Copper was an alright trainer in fairness to him, he'd raised his darumaka well, even if the little thing only fought for food. The young trainer ignored Gary's sarcastic comments, but the cyndaquil's words made him grit his teeth in anger.
Brutus stretched, warming himself up and looked to Copper, <Lunch after this, yes?> he confirmed. Copper nodded and then shouted at him to dodge Cinder's attack. Brutus curled up and used rollout to try and clear the smokescreen and as he was hit by extrasensory, he tumbled over to Cinder, likely to crash into her.

“You want to bet?” Gary laughed, suddenly finding something immensely amusing for a few brief moments. “First up kid, my name is Gary Oak from Pallet Town in Kanto. I'm twenty five years old and a veteran trainer and Pokemon researcher. Here's your proof.”
Perhaps he shouldn't gloat, because he didn't tend to like attention that much, especially once people knew who he was. But still, it wasn't often that he came across a young kid like this and had the chance to show off.
Reaching into his snowy lab coat, Gary pulled out a large case from his pocket containing all of his badges in the other regions. Granted they were completely useless here, but it ought to shut the kid up at the very least.
“I also fought in the Kanto League, defeating some of the top trainers there.” He didn't mention, however, that he lost after beating his rival, Ash. Once he'd flashed his shiny badges, he deposited the case back in his pocket. To be honest he wasn't sure if the news had even travelled to the Cheyenne region, but whatever.
“Please don't give him more to complain about,” Cinder called, her shoulder burning from the welt she'd received from the Roll Out. She'd been unable to avoid it in time, and now she was eyeing the Darumaka with undisguised annoyance. She couldn't really attack this turn, because her muscles were tired and sore. Reaching for the Oran Berry she'd received, she sealed her lips around it and crunched down, letting the juices swim down her throat as she chewed on the bright blue skin.

Copper blanched when he heard who Gary actually was. Oh Hell... He swallowed. That was a lot of badges and his grandfather was the great Professor Oak from Kanto?! Yeah.. maybe he shouldn't have been so cocky before this. But it was too late now. He'd made his bed and now he had to lie it. Trying to muster up his macho attitude, he snorted at Gary once more, "Whatever. Even with all that experience your Cindaquil is still a bitch." Well there you have it. He'd crossed the line.
Brutus on the other hand, was feeling fantastic. He rolled around his trainer, building up some speed before heading straight towards Cinder again, cackling as he did so.

Okay, he had to admit, as much as he hated attention, that reaction had been priceless. Not only had he proven the boastful trainer wrong and completely shot down his hopes, but he'd also pretty much owned Copper.
“If you say so,” he responded to the comment about Cinder, whose face remained neutral. Apparently she didn't seem to care what Copper thought about her now, or at least she wasn't paying attention if she did. The fire type pushed her feet into the ground and took the Rollout, her shoulder still painful from the last impact. However, as soon as she caught her breath enough, she narrowed her eyes at Copper.
"Trash."
And it seemed as though this one had just gotten even stronger. While there wasn't a level difference between the Darumaka and herself, there was still the point that the fire type was, as far as she was aware, at full strength. Consequently as a result of the battle with the Ekans a few minutes earlier, Cinder was already quite taxed, and this showed even though she'd just consumed the Oran Berry.
“I have to admit that your Darumaka is well trained,” Gary praised casually, jotting down notes eagerly as he observed the fire type's roll out attack. He knew Rollout as a rock type move, and he'd fought with and against Pokémon using it in the past so it was nothing new to him. Pulling a Pokedex from his pocket, he flicked it open and quickly took the Pokemon's details. “Ah, so it is a Zen Charm Pokémon. That is a unique classification indeed!”
When its internal fire is burning, it cannot calm down and it runs around. When the fire diminishes, it falls asleep.
The Pokedex report earned a nod and a curious hum from the researcher. He had no idea, however, what the Darumaka was saying. Perhaps Copper would be able to enlighten him to some of the language later, after the battle, if he didn't run screaming like a little bitch when Gary defeated him.

Still a bitch but nice moves." He said to Gary as he contemplated what he should do now to retaliate.
The accuracy of his pokemon had dropped slightly from the two smokescreen, but Brutus was also still in the wheel position so he did not know if he wanted to stop that yet. He considered it, but immediately decided to change his tactics a bit. "Roll then thrust!" He said to Brutus who immediately understood the key and went to action.
He started in a rollout position as he rushed over to the Cyndaquil, but before he struck he got out and tried to thrust his arm on the Cyndaquil with a powerful hammer arm. If it hit, it'd also drop his speed.

Hidden beneath the expanse of skin, her muscle was burning relentlessly, a swelling bruise forming on the blade where her neck and arm met. One of the Roll Out attacks had caused a fairly decent sized scratch to run down the length of her side, and now she was finding it difficult to move.
“Cinder!” Gary called, trying to snatch her attention. “Can you move?”
“If I can breathe, I can move. What kind of a question is that?” Replied Cinder, though exhaustion was evident in her heaving flanks. A narrow snout angled up, seeing the Darumaka lunging for her in an attempt to land a Hammer Arm on her back.
Unable to fully dodge because of the speed of the move, Cinder pushed off with her forepaws and leaned back, twisting to make the attack hit her good shoulder instead. Gunshots rang through her ears and she hissed as she was thrown from the momentum of the attack straight onto a bed of leaves. Thankfully it was Winter and the trees had been cast bare, otherwise that move might have made her lose consciousness.
Still, she had some fight left in her. Her leader had asked her to fight, and with him there she didn't really want to disappoint him. The repercussions of losing, Cinder thought, might cause him to deem her useless. Gary wouldn't do that, of course, but from the short time they'd been together, she didn't really know what to think of him.
“Hang on, Cinder,” Gary called, his hand rummaging around in his backpack, “Let me heal you with a potion!”
Heal her? Ciner cast a glance back, at the moment struggling to hold herself upright, and huffed. Alright, so he did care about her to some extent, but that wasn't much of her concern. “Save your Potions for later, Oak.” She protested, and released a thick plume of smoke in the clearing to blind Brutus.
Gary had moved forward to throw the Potion so that it broke and showered Cinder in the healing liquid – a trick he'd learned back in Kanto many years ago. However the plume was so intense that he was forced to retreat back a few paces, shielding his own eyes from the bursting cloud.
“Cinder!” There was no time this turn to heal her, especially not now that she'd pushed him back as well and become lost in the cloud. It was still uncertain, Gary realised, whether or not the Darumaka had been caught in it as well. He couldn't catch sight of the fire type of where he was. “Cinder,” he called over the roaring of the wind. “Extrasensory!”

trainer copper ! copper looked up when gary started yelling about healing his pokemon with a potion. however, by the look of the little cyndaquil. she wasn't interested. with a puff of smoke rising from her back, it enveloped the area, sucking the darumaka into it. the smoke stung his eyes, and he let out gusty coughs as he tried to get out. however, the roar of gary's voice calling out an extrasensory, he had to gasp in shock. the psychic move hit head on, knocking him into the ground. the darumaka whined pitifully and rolled over.
" brutus! get the hell up, and use tackle. get close to her. " he yelled, waiting as his lazy fire pokemon got to his feet and tried to charge the cyndaquil. though his eyes were watering more than they were earlier, so it was hard to tell for him whether or not he was actually going in the right direction. copper just sighed, watching as his pokemon was more than likely to fail.
