Once safely away from the smell of Stunky, Zen could not wait to see what her new Pokemon could do.
"Come on out, my pretty little Vulpix," she said as she released the Pokemon in a flash of white light. The fire fox sat and looked at her quizzically. "You're gonna need a name, won'tcha, love? How does Zarya sound to you?"
"Pix!" the Pokemon barked.
Zen blinked. "Er, I'm going to take that as a yes." Zarya it is. "Well, Zarya...I'm Zen and I'm your trainer, I guess. What do you say, should we go train now?"
"Pix!" Zarya yipped again. This time there was no doubt as to her answer--she leaped to her feet and began searching the nearby grass and trees.
"Make sure you don't anger anything you can't beat!" Zen called after the Vulpix. She followed Zarya.

A common rattata appeared, munching on the end of a dewy, green plant leaf. As the vulpix entered its periphreal vision, the pokemon jerked its head in her direction, sharp eyes glaring. "Raaaatat!" The pokemon exclaimed in warning.

Zarya stopped short at the sight of the Rattata. "Pix!" she yipped to her trainer.
Zen followed her Pokemon's line of sight to the rat Pokemon and smiled. Rattatas were among her top ten favorite Pokemon, she hoped she would be able to catch this one.
"Zarya, Ember!" The Vulpix spat a few flames in the Rattata's direction. Zen frowned. As Embers go, that one did not look very effective.
{OOC: I just realized another downside of never doing this before/only playing the games--I have no idea what the attacks look like ><}

((lol. I invent half of them xD Or else you can check Serebii.net. It may tell you a bit about the attack))
The Rattata tried to dodge the small fireballs but failed rather miserably. While its whiskeres were slightly burnt, it wasn't hurt too badly from the attack though. "RattaaaaaaTA!" The purple mouse leaped over at an incredible speed, using a quick attack.

Rattata's leaf caught on fire and singed its nose. Grumbling, it turned and used a Tackle attack.
"Ratta!" it squeaked, enraged that its precious leaf was nothing but cinders now.

{OOC: I'll just...kinda combine them xD}
Okay. We need to work on that a little, Zen thought wryly. But it was the best thing they had going right now. "Zarya, another Ember! See if you can stop it before it hits you!"
As the fire Pokemon shot out more weak flames, the Rattata hit. The flames cut off with the contact, Zen held her breath to see how the Pokemon fared. Zarya rolled back to her feet, a little dirty and sore but fine overall.

Ratatta was furious. First, its leaf was destroyed for no reason at all. Then, it was attacked and beaten up! What guts this challenger had!
With a squeak of anger, it brushed off the pain from the previous attacks and launched a full-force tackle attack.

Zen commanded, "Try to dodge it!"
Zarya tried to scurry away but couldn't get out of the way fast enough. The Rattata hit with a successful tackle. When Zarya got up this time, she didn't look fine. But she did look angry and that would serve her well. "Vul..." she snarled.
"Well, come on then, hit it back! Tackle!" Zarya obeyed orders, hurling her body at the smaller Pokemon.

Rather weak pokemon couldn't fight off another attack, this one landing a critical hit on it's tired form. Battered and bruised, it collapsed twitching on the ground. It's crooked tail lashed violently back and forth momentarily, before finally going still.
Ratatta has been defeated! Each participating pokemon under level 20 have gained 1 level! To attempt a capture, toss a pokeball! or move on.

Zarya sat back, panting. That oughta teach that stupid mouse!
"Good job, Zar," said Zen. "You take it easy for a bit, mmmkay?"
"Vulpix," Zarya replied, nodding. The little fire Pokemon trotted under a nearby tree and curled into a ball to nap. While keeping an eye on her Vulpix, Zen tossed a Pokeball at the Rattata. There shouldn't be any problem catching the purple mouse. Yes, she might have her second Pokemon!

Two halves cleanly snapped together, securing the rat-pokemon inside. The orb hardly shook, laying still in the grass after only a few moments. Rattata was captured! Level: 4 Attacks: Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack

Score! Zen quickly picked up the Pokeball. "Welcome to the team," she told the ball as she minimized it and tucked it into her trainer pack. Glancing up into the sky, she saw the sun was almost directly overhead. No wonder, too, she could already feel her pale skin pricking with the beginnings of a sunburn.
She followed her Vulpix's trail to under the tree and lied down next to the Pokemon. After a bit of rest, Zarya would be back to full health and the hottest part of the day would be past.
Siesta time.

A timid blue pokemon crept out of the bushes, stretching out next to the trainer-pokemon pair and making itself comfortable.
"Phan-py," It muttered to no one in particular, eyelids fluttering shut. This seemed like a great place to nap!

Mmmm...this felt good. It was now approaching late afternoon, Zen was warm, and she had her Pokemon. She shifted to get more comfortable and felt something poking her in the back. She opened her eyes to Zarya in front of her, snoozing peacefully. No, wasn't the Vulpix digging into her back.
Zen pushed herself into a sitting position to get a better look, accidentally jostling the Pokemon in the process.

"Phaaan~" Careless pokemon happily snoozed, unaware that the trainer was awake. It dreamed of berries, many many berries in all different shapes, colors and sizes.

How cute. It was drooling on her. Zen moved to push it away slightly so she could leave, but stopped. Phanpy. Phaaaaanpy. That might be useful in the near future. Wasn't the first gym electric? Oh, yes, it would be very useful.
Now, how to catch it. She could use Zarya, but the Vulpix had already had a battle and might not be fully healed. Rattata was most likely in worse shape than Zarya. Time to use her brain.
"Heeeeey, Phanpy," Zen crooned as she gently patted the blue Pokemon.
{OOC: I forgot to ask earlier. Do fainted Pokemon caught in Pokeballs regain their health over time?}

ooc - its assumed. you can be in two places at once, and you can just say you visited a center or something. in all the time I've been here, I don't think I've actually visited a pokecenter once... XD;;;
bic -
Phanpy seemed to smile from the attention it was receiving, still in a woozy, half-sleep daze. It shakily stood, headbutting the trainer gently. "Phan~" It cried merrily, nuzzling her hand.

{OOC: Thanks =) I'll keep that in mind. I've seen some places go insane if you dared assume that your Pokemon healed without going to a Pokecenter or if you didn't RP your every step to the Center.}
Zen smiled. "You're too big to do that, you know. You might hurt someone." She scratched the Phanpy behind its ears.
Zarya awoke at the sound of Zen's voice. At the sight of the other Pokemon, she narrowed her eyes but a brief gesture from Zen stopped her from attacking.

ooc - lol. Well some places are insane. o-o; and if you really do feel the need to rp it all out, you don't have to leave the route or anything. ^^; I'm in like 10 places, and I know others are. XD;
bic - It grinned shyly at the slightest hint of affection. A runt of it's litter, it didn't see much attention as it grew. And it was still young.
"Phy!" A smile was flashed in the Vulpix's direction, assuring the fox it wasn't going to try anything weird. After all, it had only wanted to rest in the first place. A lazy pokemon indeed.

{OOC: Freakin' awesome. I was wondering how long it would take me to 'walk' to the Pokemart. Screw that, I'm going there now to buy more Pokeballs!}
Zarya sniffed. Getting scratched behind the ears was not proper Pokemon behavior. Without waiting for permission, she bounded off into the grass in search of more prey--er, opponents.
"Don't get lost!" Zen called before returning her attention to the Phanpy. Her hand itched to just grab an empty ball and toss it at the elephant Pokemon, but she didn't want to take the chance of losing the ball. "Do you have a trainer, little one?" she asked.
