As the answer to the trainer's question, the phanpy let out a small, sweet purr of affection. It was starting to like the human and her kind voice. It didn't know her all that well, but it really wished to be loved; the opposite of what its mother did.
-----------
"Scy!" Suddenly, a bug type pokemon jumped out at the exploring vulpix. "Scyyyytherrr!" It roared, swiping its right claw at it. <Dare you cross into my terf, tyke? A foolish act for one so young.> It hissed.

"You can come with me," Zen smiled. She pulled an empty Pokeball out of her pack and placed it on the ground. "You can just tag along or you can come along as my Pokemon. I don't know how much of a glamorous life you'll have, but at least you'll get to see things. You'll be able to become bigger and stronger."
Zen sat back with bated breath. Would it take the offer? Even if it did just hang around until after the first gym, that would be a wonderful thing. And even though she hated to admit it, the little blue Pokemon was kinda cute.
---
Zarya shot to attention with the appearance of the Scyther. She tensed up, bared her teeth, and fanned her tails around her in an effort to look bigger and scarier. <I might be young, but I'm not afraid of you!> she snarled. Only half a lie. She wasn't afraid of the Pokemon itself, just its nasty-looking scythes. <I was only looking!>

The Phanpy wasn't too sure. That pokeball seemed kind of scary... Turning around, it squeaked at the sight of the scyther. It had met the green bugs a few times beforehand and never really came out the victor. Afraid, it hid behind the trainer.
The Scyther didn't pay any attention to the blue pokemon, focussing it more on the Vulpix. <Heh. Well, care to prove that in a battle?> it asked, using a leer.

The Vulpix was transfixed by the Scyther's leer. <I...I...I...> It wasn't until Zen had called her name a few times before she snapped out of it. Maybe battling this particular Pokemon wasn't such a good idea...but she couldn't back out now.
"Ember!" Zen commanded, moving to shield the Phanpy behind her. Zarya must have truly been afraid, the flames she shot at the Scyther were stronger than previously.

The scyther was rather surprised by the ember attack and didn't have the time to dodge it. The fire let marks on the bug's body but it didn't stop him from using the speedy Quick Attack on the vulpine.

"Dodge it and use Ember again!"
Zarya tried to leap out of the way but couldn't quite make it. The Scyther clipped her with its Quick Attack and sent the fire Pokemon skidding into a nearby bush.
Zen winced. That didn't look pretty. But Zarya untangled herself from the branches quickly enough and breathed another round of fire at her opponent.

The Scyther didn't seem to happy about the constant Embers. They were actually rather annoying, especially since it hurt a lot. Once again, it used a Quick Attack, ready to quickly slam its body on the small fox's.

No way Zarya was going to try dodging another Quick Attack. That Scyther was far too fast. The large green Pokemon slammed into the Vulpix with a thud. Zarya yipped in pain, but managed to pull herself back up without too much difficulty. "Vulpix!" she barked. <Ha, you're not so big and tough!>
Zen couldn't understand her Pokemon's tauntings, but recognized the signs well enough. "Don't antagonize them when you've almost got 'em! Another Ember, go!"

<Well you're nothing too special yourself!> yelled the Scyther as it was dodging the attack. However, the few seconds he used to say that made him lose his concentration and was hit once again by the burning balls of fire. The fire burned one of its wings, bringing it down to the floor. "SCYYYY~" It was unable to do much as this pokemon depended on his wings a lot, and this was the first time they were rendered useless.
The Phanpy, not too scared anymore, came out from behind the trainer and used a tackle. <Take THAT you brute!> it said as the attack hit.

"Way to go, Phanpy!" Zen cheered. She watched the struggling Scyther for a few moments before ordering Zarya, "If it still wants to fight, give it another Ember. If not...we'll see what next."
"Pix!" Zarya agreed. She circled the Scyther warily, waiting to see what its next move would be. She opened her mouth--
"And no more taunting it! That's probably how you got in trouble in the first place!"
Zarya flicked her tail at Zen in annoyance, never once taking her eyes off the green Pokemon. What would it do?

The Scyther glared at the Phanpy and the Vulpix. They... This wasn't fair! Double teaming him! Hoping the others wouldn't noticed, the bug used a Focus Energy. He'll make sure the chances are on his side first, and the strike with all his might...

Zen reached down to scratch the Phanpy behind the ears again. "You looked like you'd been waiting to do that for a long time," she commented. At a noise from Zarya, she looked up.
<What are you doing? Stop it! Get up and fight!> the Vulpix commanded the Scyther. She backed up and prepared to use her Ember attack again.

Moving fast, the Scyther used Quick Attack on the Vulpix. It hoped Ember wouldn't be used. He would stand no chance against it.

Zarya was prepared this time, but the Scyther's earlier Focus Energy tipped the scales in its favor. As soon as Zarya registered that the green blur coming towards her was her opponent, she let loose with another round of Ember just before it connected.

The fire spit directly at the scyther, and he immediantly fainted from the strong attack from the vulpix.
"Sccyy!"
Capture or move on?

Zen tossed the Pokeball that had sat forgotten on the ground during the battle at the Scyther. "Hey, I need more strong Pokemon," she defended herself against Zarya's accusing glare. "At the very least you can train against it."
Zarya sniffed, <If I beat it now, I'll beat it later.> Regardless, the tired Vulpix did understand the need for a new trainer to catch many Pokemon. She turned to the Phanpy. <That was a good tackle.>

{OOC: Awesomeness on the Scyther =) But does Vulpix (and Phanpy?) gain a level or something?}
Zarya poked at the Phanpy. <Hello? Anyone home?>
"Zar, leave it alone. It might not want to play," Zen sighed. She picked up the Pokeball containing Scyther and looked at it critically. She hoped it and Zarya wouldn't get in too many fights later on.

ooc - yes they do. -glares at luna and cazz- XD;
Each participating pokemon under level 20 have gained 1 level.

"I think you'd better catch that one," A woman's voice shattered the peacefulness of the moment. Roxie was an older trainer, in her mid-20s, with a soft spot for rookies just starting out.
She smiled at Zen kindly. "And once you do, I would very much like to battle you, two-on-two. What do you say?" A pair of pokeballs were readied in her hand, containing the only two pokemon she ever carried with her.

A trainer battle? Now? "Fine...but I'm not too strong at the moment," Zen mumbled. She would hate terribly to lose her first trainer battle, but with her two strongest Pokemon tired from battle, it looked probable.
"Zarya, you ready?" she asked her Vulpix. Zarya nodded once. Zen fingered Scyther's Pokeball. He was her strongest...but was he able to fight?
{OOC: Would it be completely improbable if I were to shove a potion down Scyther's throat and call him well enough to battle?}
