Elizabeth was new to Cheyenne, and she had just left the lab. Now, she was headed down Route One. Looking up at the sky, she saw that it was dark and cloudy, but that didn't matter to her... Even if it started raining, she decided, she would still continue. Her Pochama, who walked beside her, had trouble keeping up so eventually she just decided to carry the little Pokemon. "I wonder how long this route is," Beth said to herself, as she looked off into the distance.

"Paras!" A Paras was moving slowly across the road, only one step in front of Elizabeth.
Will she step on it?

While Beth was only watching the path far ahead, Pochama squawked loudly, startling her trainer. The girl jumped back just in time to avoid stepping on the wild Pokemon. "Pocha!" +Look!+ Pochama said, pointing down with her tiny wing. "That was close... Good thing you warned me..." Pochama hopped down from her trainer's arms and walked up to the Paras. "You've got to be more careful. You could get hurt!"

"Paras!" <I'm slow, but I have to get across the path somehow! Thanks for stopping her from stepping on my! I wasn't fast enough to get out of the way.> The Paras moved back a bit, so it could see the trainer properly. <Would you like to have a practice battle? Since she looks like a trainer.>

Pochama tilted her head, confused. +You want to fight?+ She was always peaceful and had actually never battled before. Even when she was first caught, by Beth's brother, she'd actually joined him by choice, not through a battle. Beth watched as the two Pokemon talked. She could only wonder what they were saying.

<Well if she's a trainer...> It said, nodding it's head at Beth. <Then you're going to have to battle sometime... at least this way you're not just attacking a random pokemon. And then if you win she can catch me!> This all made perfect sense to the Paras.

It didn't seem to make sense to the Pochama at all. +Umm... are you sure?+ Pochama said, nervously. She seemed, not as though she were afraid for her own safety, but afraid that she may hurt the wild Pokemon. She glanced back at Beth for a second, then faced the Paras again. Pochama shrugged, then simply used Growl, and she growled cutely at the wild Pokemon.

The Paras, realizing that if they were going to battle properly, she would have to start it, used scratch on the Pochama. <I'll be fine!>

Pochama fell back, not because she was hurt badly, but because she was surprised at the strength of the Paras's attack. Getting back on her feet, she used a very weak Pound---purposely of course. Beth watched, wondering why the Pochama just started fighting on her own. Apparently the Pokemon didn't understand that she was supposed to follow orders from her trainer during battle.

<Comeon, you need to learn to battle properly. Put more strenght into your attacks.> The Paras didn't even try to avoid the pound, as she talked to the Pochama. She then returned with another Scraths attack.

Again, she was hit by the Scratch attack, but she didn't fight back. Shaking her head, she asked, +Is this what all Pokemon do? I wasn't captured by fighting. The trainer was a nice boy... so I just chose to go with him. Then he gave me to her,+ She pointed to Beth. Obviously, this Pochama must have been raised in a place where there weren't many other Pokemon, if she didn't even know anything about battling.

The Paras stopped attacking. <When trainers want to get better, the battle other pokemon. It makes their pokemon stronger, and also gives them the chance to catch lots of different pokemon.> It thought for a moment. <Maybe I should just come with you, and then I could teach you how to battle properly.

+I've never heard of that before,+ Pochama said, still sort of confused about battling. Beth kneeled beside her Pokemon. "Hey, if you want to battle, next time wait for my command, okay?" she said, laughing. A Pokemon that didn't understand battles? That was strange. Pochama told the Paras, +See? That's how I thought all Pokemon were caught. By just deciding to come along with a trainer...?+

<No, that happens sometimes, but often it's by battling. So do you want to battle? Or shall I just come with you anyway?> The Paras moved a bit closer to the trainer.

Pochama looked from Beth to Paras. If that's the normal thing to do around here... I guess I should learn to battle, then... +Fine, I'll do it...+ She looked up at her trainer. "Pocha? Chama?" +So? What do I do?+ Beth, while she didn't really understand Poke-speak, got the hint and had a general idea of what was going on. "Okay, Pochama. Use Pound." Pochama tilted her head for a second, but then used Pound attack. It still wasn't full-force, but definitely an improvement...

The Paras was hit by the pound attack, and tried using Scratch again. <That was much better! But I think it could have been harder.> The Paras was kind of hoping that it couldn't get harder, because that one had hurt, but she was trying to teach this Pochama how to battle, so she had better do it properly.

Is it serious? The Paras is asking me to attack...? Pochama, again, shrugged and attacked harder than last time, using another Pound on Beth's command.

This time the Pound hurt quite a lot! She winced, shook herself, and tried using Stun Spore.

The Pochama watched as the sparkling powder slowly floated down from above. She had no clue what it was, but it didn't look dangerous... She glanced back at her trainer. Stun Spore? "No! Hurry, Pochama, run!" Beth said, worried. How could the Pokemon not know what the attack was? But it was too late. Just as she turned to run from the falling Stun Spore, it covered the little Pokemon and she dropped where she stood, paralyzed by it...

The paras sighed. "Par, paras... par, ras, paras. Paras paras. Par, paras." <You don't know what that stuff is? It's stun spore. Avoid it at all costs. Strike that. Avoid all attacks that come from wild pokemon. Including me.> It nodded after it's lecture, then used a scratch on the stunned penguin.
