Atsina smiled. "I promise to do my best to make this the right choice." she said, and turned to reach for her pack. With the slakoth on her lap, though, she couldn't reach. She turned and nudged Dart again. He finally stirred, waking and blinking slowly. Atsina sighed and turned to Paleo. "Go to my pack, and nudge it a bit closer, please." she said. The bronzor went over and rammed against the large pack, slowly moving it into reaching distance. Atsina finally got it and pulled out a pokeball.
She held it out to the slakoth. "Here is a pokeball. If you're sure you want to do this, then just touch the center here." she said, and waited to see what the pokemon would decide. She forced herself to promise to honor whatever he decided. If he changed his mind, she'd put him somewhere safe and move on.

Looking at the Pokeball with a strange lack of curiosity, it sat there on her lap. Having a staring contest with the object in front of its lazy eyes, having trouble to simply stay half way open. One of its long arms reached out to grab the object to examine it further, and thought back to what it said previously. It did seem like a good idea, the catch wasn't all that bad. So doing the only thing it could, it pressed the button in the middle, and was instantly in the Pokeball. Shake, shake, shake, ping! Guess who decided to join your party?

Atsina grinned. Dart, who was now fully awake, growled. < What happened? Were we attacked? Where's the enemy? I'll kill 'em! > he demanded, whirling around to glare at anything within reaching distance. Atsina laughed and stood up, brushing snow and leaves from her pants. "Dart, take it easy, it's alright." she soothed.
Dart gave her a disbelieving look, but calmed down anyway. He came over to her. Atsina tossed the pokeball, releasing the new addition. The slakoth merely blinked a few times before again curling up. Atsina picked him up and unzipped her jacket. Putting the slakoth snuggly against her chest, she zipped the jacket until only the pokemon's head could be seen. "There, now you'll be warm." she said. The male slakoth blinked again. < Thank you. > he said before drifting off to sleep.
Dart turned to Paleo. < Is that the slakoth from before? Is he with us now? >
Paleo hovered down towards the zigzagoon. < Yeah, Atsina convinced him to join our team. >
Atsina nodded, picking up her pack. "Yes, he's part of the team now, and I expect all of you to get along. His name will be Path, since he was found in the middle of the pathway. Now come on, let's keep going." she said.
She made sure Dart and Paleo followed her, and then headed off across the open grassland. Soon they would go to the next town, but Atsina had been hoping to get some more experience in for her pokemon, in the way of some battles. However the route appeared to be deserted. That meant that she'd have to run into some more wild pokemon to fight. So she kept to the grass, crunching down the soft frosty grass as she did so.

Ahh, spring was right around the corner at last. It seemed more and more Pokemon were emerging from their winter slumbers or hiding spots from the heavy snows. Now, the snows had melted, and just a nice little frost was left settled. Perfect weather for creatures of fur and feather. Speaking of feather... Just up ahead, a lazy little Wingull glided on the gentle updraft, cawing idly to perhaps any other Wingulls in the area, or maybe just chattering to itself about what it saw below on it's lazy drift. Those sharp, keen eyes spotted the movement of the trainer coming near, and it swivled itself around sharply to glide overhead silently. Curious creatures, humans. Curious even more the Pokemon that traveled with them. It's beak clicked a few times before it screeched a greeting to the ground-travelers below. It hadn't seen too many humans in it's life, and those it had seen usually gave it bits of bread or other yummy foods. Perhaps this one would offer the same.
::wingull:: Lv. 7 Wingull has appeared!

Atsina glanced up at the cry, as did Dart and Paleo. Path slept in her jacket still. Atsina stopped walking. She put her heavy pack down, stretching and watching the wingull glide. A thought struck her, and she knelt to rummage in her pack. Paleo watched, taking advantage of the break to go down onto the ground and rest. Dart, meanwhile, was trying to look fierce at the Wingull. He bared his fangs and danced around on the ground, watching the flying pokemon.
Atsina stood up again with a handful of pokemon food in her hand. She had a few small bags of the stuff in her pack, and she now tossed the handful out into the open. "Dart, stop that. Let it come down if it wants." she scolded with a laugh. Dart came over to her and sat down with a sigh.

The Wingull with it's beady keen eyes quickly noticed the dancing Dart trying to intimated him, but didn't really pay any attention to the pokemon. Continuing to do a few more aerial tricks the Wingull become a little tired, and decided to take a rest upon the soft ground, while there it pecked gently at a few drops of pokemon food, still keeping it's keen eyes upon the travelers incase they tried anything.

Atsina was indeed going to try something. She wanted Paleo to become more experienced before she went on to challenge this city's gym. So she needed him to fight. She motioned him to her, and stood watching the wingull. As soon as it landed, she flung her arm out. "Quick Paleo! Confusion!" she called.
Paleo swooped in and sent out a burst of psychic energy at the bird pokemon. Dart has been confused at the sudden attack, but it appealed to the part of him that was still wild. He wagged his tail delightedly, hoping he would get to share in the action. Although he was still wary of pokemon fights because of his last encounter with the stunky.

<Wingull!> The bird pokemon wailed, getting knocked back by the impact of the Confusion Attack. The Wingull now full of rancor quickly released a sharp Growl Attack at Paleo in hopes of cutting down the foe's attack power.
Now flying back into high sky the Wingull fired another attack at Paleo, a Water Gun Attack to be exact. The high powered blast of water swiftly aimed at Paleo.

Paleo felt the sudden stab of exhaustion which indicated that the growl had been successful. Atsina frowned. "Paleo, growl back!" she ordered, and the Bronzor let out it's most fierce cry. But not before the Wingull could launch a Water Gun attack at him. Paleo moved to dodge, but was hit by the water blast. It knocked him end over end for several yards before he rightened himself and flew back over.
Atsina frowned. Both pokemon could fly, which meant that Paleo's hovering all around wasn't as effective as it had been when he'd fought Dart, a ground pokemon. So he'd have to win by strength alone. "Paleo, Confusion!" she called, and Paleo once more shot a strong psychic blast towards the Wingull.

Wingull tipped it's wings just slightly, but that was enough to send it in a completely opposite direction and missed the coming Confusion. It had a slight advantage in the air - but only slight. Another tip of the wings and bringing them in slightly, it dove sharp towards the enemy and released a defeaning Supersonic as it came near and swooped back up sharply again. The gall of these people! Give it food, then attack! It had the mind to chalk all over them for such manners.

"Dodge!" Atsina called. Paleo shot upwards, just avoiding the supersonic attack. "Use Confusion!" his trainer called. He flew at the Wingull and let loose a powerful psychic attack, putting all his energy into the attack. He wanted to win and impress Atsina.

Again, the Wingull tipped to dodge, but it had underestimated the power of the attack, and it hit much quicker than it expected. Wingull stumbled in the air, started to fall, but soon righted itself and glided back into the sky with a rather confused squak.
It darted back towards the opponent, then flew in circles around itself, firing off a Water Gun in no general direction. Confused was perhaps an understatement. The poor bird was it la-la land at this point, and perhaps in danger to itself.

With a yelp Atsina jumped away from the water gun which had been fired towards her. Obviously the Confusion attack had been successful, since the poor bird was flying in circles and clearly out of it. Paleo watched in amusement. His attack had never caused those effects before, so that must mean that the bird was weak to him! Of course it wasn't, but that didn't stop the steel Pokémon from feeling rather proud.
"Confusion, Paleo!" Atsina called. The bronzor frowned. How was he supposed to aim at such an erratically moving target? He gathered himself, and let loose another burst of energy.

Though the Wingull wasn't thinking clearly, it had had the sudden urge to sing. Though it had a really bad singing voice, that one could consider it an attack. It just couldn't figure out the words to the song it wanted to 'sing', while it was doing that the Confusion attack hit. Forcing the flying type to fly into a nearby tree.
In response to this 'attack' by the tree, it began making random calls of different pithes. It was truly bizarre to listen, and truly confusing to any Pokémon that dared to hear a Super Sonic.

Atsina shrugged out of her jacket. It was warming up nicely. She covered her ears though as the wingull let out this awful noise. Dart buried his head and she felt Path move slightly. He was clinging to her chest, sleeping. Paleo took the brunt of the attack and was obviously much affected. He began to move erratically. Atsina frowned. "Paleo! PALEO!" she called, and it took a moment for the Pokémon to turn and face her. "Come back. Path, you're up!" she said. Paleo wandered back towards her, clearly out of it.
Path, just now processing the command, felt himself placed in a tree branch, where he clung and blinked at the Wingull. "Yawn!" Atsina said. Path did nothing for a while, and then he let out a long Yawn, directed at the Wingull.

Wingull at last snapped out of it's confused state, but then the poor thing was hit with yet another status changing attack. Just as it's vision cleared and it looked down to it's new enemy, an overwhelming tiredness came over it. It glided around for a bit, trying to summon up enough energy for a Water Gun, however, it fell asleep in mid-air before it could do anything, and then plummeted to the ground, out cold.

Atsina grinned. The battle was almost over. "Scratch, Path." she said. The slakoth blinked lazily and slowly made it's way down the tree. It's long claws flashed when it got close enough to the sleeping bird as it executed a scratch attack.
Meanwhile, Atsina recalled Paleo into his pokeball. The rest time would help him throw off the confusion. Atsina had also put away her jacket and shed her heavy boots in favor of a pair of hiking boots. Spring was obviously on the land, and the air was warmer and fuller.

<Owww...> the wingull moaned in its sleep. It turned away from the scratching and began to wince in its sleep. When the scratching was over, it flipped right back up, still asleep. It's mouth was cracked open and in its sleep it let out a small watergun. It shot upright only a few inches, that was how small it was. When it came back down, it only splashed him in the face, soaking him. It shocked him a bit, making him much closer to waking up than before. But he could not attack in this sleeping state. He was a sitting duck...er...seagull.

Atsina watched the bird with interest. Dart shuffled over and sniffed at it, and Atsina made a 'tut' sound to keep Dart away. It wasn't his fight. "Scratch it again, Path." she told the Slakoth, who took several seconds to process this request before he once more lifted his claws and slashed at the wingull.

<Meh, meh, meh....> it repeated in its sleep. It was slowly getting injured with all of these direct hits due to its sleep. It would probably wake up soon through these injuries. As it was attacked, its energy dropped quite a bit. Its eyes nearly opened but failed. The bird lay there completely helpless and subject to probably further injuries until it awoke. Its lack of energy combined with this sleeping state made it quite catchable. It wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight against the pokeball in its sleep.
