Alaina entered the volcano and began walking to the top, where the temperature was many degrees outside of her comfort level. But it didn't matter; she wanted a fire Pokémon. They had advantages over so many types that suffering through the heat would be well worth the effort. She decided to keep all her Pokémon in their balls; she didn't want to risk them running into the fire pits or hot springs. It was more boring, and she felt deeply secluded, but she found it to be quite easy to concentrate. She began searching the nooks and crannies, trying to find a good fire Pokémon to battle, and possibly to bring home.

A few moments up the mountain, a strange slug-like creature was trying to get away as fast as it could. <Help me!> it was screaming in Pokespeak, not looking as to where it was going. It was only natural that it then crashed into Alaina. Close examination revealed it to be a Slugma, but this one seemed different, mainly due to it's colour. <Please, you have to help me!> it begged the female trainer.

Alaina had not been paying enough attention to where she was going, and at first, could not make out the Slugma from the ashen floor of the volcano. However, once she did, she squealed in excitement. Once the shock was over at seeing what appeared to be some sort of steel-ish Pokemon, which HAD to be rare, did she take its expression into account. Not understanding pokespeak, she let out Naliya to figure out what was wrong. Naliya broke out of the ball, happy to be able to stretch her legs again. She attempted to sit down, but as that resulted in nothing more than a large and almost immediate butt-burn, she decided against it and decided to stand up instead.
<Forgive her. She's a bit of a bonehead at times. She's nice and all, but doesn't understand out language. She's new. Anyway, what's wrong?>

<I...It's horrible!> the Slugma cried. <I was with my family, and we got attacked by a Grimer and Gulpin! I got separated from my mommy...please help me fight them and get me back to my mother!>

Naliya nodded her agreement to help, even though Alaina knew nothing of what was going on. Naliya turned to her slightly incompetent trainer and, after a few moments of Charades translation, Alaina understood the basics of what was going on.
<So, we'll need a double battle then... Hold on.> Naliya leaped up and pawed at Irasu's pokeball. She wanted a part in the battle, and Irasu was strong against poison Pokemon. Finder's keeper's. Alaina released the half-ground Pokemon, who seemed slightly confused. Naliya turned to Irasu and explained the situation. The Larvitar consented to help, and the two turned to the Shiny Slugma.
<Where are they?>

<They're this way> the Slugma told them, slowly making it's way up the volcano. <They were especially mean to me because of my colour. It's not my fault I look like silver. I just want to get rid of this stupid colour.> The Slugma seemed really down about itself. Maybe some cheering up is in order?

<Why? I love your color! I wish I were silver... But I'm not. I'm just... Regular. Just because two idiots rag on you about it doesn't mean you shouldn't like it. I mean, come on! They're idiots! What do they know?>
Naliya told the oddly-colored Slugma as she followed it through the Volcano, meaning every word. Or, almost every word. In truth, she loved her luxurious dark blue coat and wouldn't have given it up for any color in the world - least of all, silver. Silver, gray, or white hairs would just make her feel old. Yuck. Irasu, meanwhile, just kind of followed them. He failed miserably at cheering people up; he figured not trying would lead to far more success, though he did butt in with a head-nod when appropriate. Naliya seemed to have it covered in his opinion. Alaina followed them, as well. Not only did she also fail at optimism, she also had no idea what they were saying. Double whammy.

<It's not much further now> the Slugma sighed, slithering again again. Eventually, the group came across two Magcargo, looking for their child. But just as the Slugma was about to return to it's family, the Grimer and Gulpin blocked their path.
::grimer:: ::gulpin::
<Not so fast, freak!> the Grimer growled. <You'll have to get through us first.>

Alaina was prepared to be the trainer, as it was her second battle. During her first, she had been useless; she had vowed to herself that it wouldn't happen like that ever again, though. As soon as she laid eyes on the Grimer, the Gulpin, and two Magcargo. Though the Magcargo - and especially the oddly-colored Slugma - perked her interest a tad bit more than the two poison-types, she figured that Naliya hadn't attacked the Slugma for a reason. Sighing, she turned to face the two poisonous Pokemon.
"Alright! Naliya, use Spark on the Gulpin! Irasu, use Sandstorm - try to blow it away from Naliya, though."
<Yah, seriously. Don't hit me. That would hurt. A lot. And that would... Well, it would suck. So don't hit me. Got that?> Naliya said, both wanting to agree with her trainer, and wanting desperately to avoid being hit by a ground attack, even if she was rather rude in her way of phrasing her wishes. She nodded seriously, as if for emphasis as she aimed the most powerful Spark attack she could muster towards the Gulpin. Granted, it wasn't extremely powerful as it hadn't been used very much.
<That's gonna be tricky! But... Fine. Don't get so touchy.> Irasu growled at his less-than-encouraging team mate. Did electric Pokemon have to be so unreasonable when it came to a little sand? Oh well. He didn't really want his partner to faint; she was annoying, but hey, he wanted to win. And without Naliya, he doubted he could do that. Alaina seemed more confident in the presence of her starter, even if she wasn't the most powerful Pokemon on her team. Confidence would be very necessary in their first double battle. As the thoughts rushed through his head, Irasu whipped up a Sandstorm, trying to push it past Naliya. Most of it did, but some hit her, earning him a deadly (figuratively speaking, of course) glare from his "partner."

Feeling the pain of the Sandstorm, both combatants got incredibly angry with their attackers. <Why are you siding with that freak!?> the Grimer yelled, throwing a Mud Slap at Shinx while the Gulpin used Poison Gas on the Larvitar, narrowly dodging the Spark.

((Did the Spark hit?)) Neither Pokemon had been prepared to dodge. Naliya was slammed in the chest with the Mud-Slap. It was not only super effective, it also sprayed into her eyes, making it harder to aim correctly. The Poison Gas was far from effective on Irasu, as he was both ground and rock, but he had never dealt with poison before. His body barely reacted fast enough to avoid being poisoned permanently. Alaina was shocked; by the toll her Pokemon had felt compared to their opponents, it was obvious that they were both at a higher level than either of hers were.
"Alright... Irasu, use Leer on both of them. Naliya, once Irasu's done with Leer, use Spark on the Gulpin again."
Alaina commanded in a shaky voice. She hoped the Leer would bring down Gulpin's defenses enough that the Spark could do some visible damage - MAYBE even paralyze it! It wasn't likely, though. And the Sandstorm raged on; this time, it brushed up against Naliya, causing her to squeal in pain from the second ground attack that turn. Alaina made a mental note to not use Sandstorm again. That had been a very, very bad move, however strong it was against the Grimer and the Gulpin.

Both poison Pokemon were affected by Leer, feeling their defences lowering. Even worse, Gulpin was too focused on the Leer this time that it couldn't dodge the Spark. Furthermore, it caused paralysis, causing the Grimer to growl irritably. <Damnit, this isn't working> it growled, now doing the one thing it could think of. It quickly grabbed Gulpin and ran away, leaving it's attackers in the dust.
Despite the fact that the enemy escaped, both of your Pokemon gain half a level for battling.
The Magcargo and Slugma were soon reunited. <Mommy! Daddy! I missed you!> the Slugma cried, happily cuddling up with it's parents. <It's okay son, you won't be harmed anymore> the father Magcargo told the silver Slugma, obviously meaning this Slugma was a boy. The mother soon came over to Irasu and Naliya and asked <We have a favour to ask of you. We can't really protect our son anymore, due to constant attacks on him every single moment. We're always very tired out and we can't protect him after being worn down so much. I ask that you take my son with you. Train him to be strong. Will you do that for us?>

Naliya sighed. She relaxed considerably once her two opponents were gone. Irasu, though, looked upset; he had really been getting into the battle. Oh well, there would be others. Naliya then turned to face the Magcargo. She glanced up at Alaina, who seemed to kind of, vaguely understand what was going on. However, she didn't seem to get that the Magcargo wanted the oddly-colored Slugma to go with them. The understanding of PokeSpeak would, she hoped, come with time. But that time had not yet come. So for the time being, Naliya had to assume that Alaina wanted the Slugma. How could she not?
<Of course! Alaina'll take real good care of her. Don't worry. If anyone messes with him again, we'll kick their butt. I promise.> Naliya grinned, and discreetly knocked into Irasu, trying to tell him to do the same thing. Being a thick-skinned Pokemon, though, he didn't even feel it. Realizing that the parents would probably want a bit more confirmation that their son was going to a good place, she spoke again, this time in a low growl.
<Won't he go to a good trainer, Irasu?> A lightbulb seemed to flash over Irasu's head as he finally caught on.
<Wha? Oh! Yes. A wonderful trainer. And team.> He nodded, enthusiastically, hoping the parents would think he was faking. Naliya sighed again. It stunk being around idiot. Deciding to go ahead and proceed with things, she turned to Alaina. She sat down, then jumped up and batted a spare pokeball. She turned around and nudged the air before the Slugma to translate. (She didn't want to actually touch the molten-lava Pokemon.) Alaina grinned, and leaned down to place the pokeball on the floor, giving the Slugma the opportunity to crawl in on its own, if she had understood Naliya correctly.

The Slugma had heard what his mother had said and asked <Are you sure you want me to go?> Giving a nod, the female Magcargo said <Of course. You want to be stronger and prove that just because you're a different colour, doesn't make you any less a Pokémon. Going with her will be the best thing for you.> With an understanding nod, the Slugma crawled over to the Pokeball and pressed the button, being engulfed and then sucked in. It didn't even wiggle once as the light went out automatically, indicating a successful capture. Congratulations! You obtained a Shiny Slugma Gender: Male Name: Your choice Attacks: Yawn, Smog, Ember and Rock Throw Personality: Easily frightened, but very affectionate.

((Whee! One question - what level is it? I'm guessing 11-ish?)) Alaina smiled and placed the currently-unnamed Slugma in the sixth slot of her belt, sending Venom to her PC. She decided to keep him in the pokeball for a while - at very least, until they were out of the general area of where the Grimer and Gulpin had been. She called Irasu and Naliya back as well, and began to search for more Pokemon to battle with. The last battle... Hadn't been much of a battle, really. It had only lasted a few turns - though, of course, it had been worth only gaining two 1/2 levels. But regardless, if she ever wanted to challenge the gym leader, she'd need much more training at some point.

(( It seems kinda young to be around level 10. I imagine it doesn't go picking fights much too actually level up. Meh, guessing level 11. Because thats when it learns Rock Throw. ))
"Ma! Maaaaa!"
An enraged cry echoed out through what appeared to be a small tunnel. It didn't seem as natural as the other ones where trainers could walk through, and even stranger was the fact that the path inside led down wards. Of course, with the steam around the area, any human may not be exactly sane in the brain if kept down for long. Rough and repetitive poundings echoed around the area. Coming in a strange rhythm with the creatures cries.
"Maaaaaachooo!" The cries had stopped for a moments notice. Whatever that was down in the tunnel had let out a giant sneeze, and the pounding had stopped for a while.
Investigate?

((That's why I thought level 11 - Rock Throw. Anything much higher just seemed... I don't know, too high for a new trainer. *shrug* And thanks for the reply =D)) Alaina stared down the pathway, the loud cries searing through her ears in the once-quiet volcano. She was located, at the time, at the top of the volcano. Heat could rise out of it, and the rocks were mostly cooled off; in short, besides during an eruption, the top and the outside were most likely the coolest parts of the volcano. Unfortunately, her body had adapted to the still-above-average temperatures there; downwards, it was even hotter. Sighing, she decided she would walk down the path for a few minutes. If I don't see anything, she promised herself as she began walking downwards, I'll come back up and look somewhere else. Whether or not she would actually hold to that, she wasn't sure. Either way, it made her feel a bit better to have a plan of action, dull and boring and cowardly as it was. The heat began to make her skull pound. Her insides extracted from themselves, becoming as wide as possible so they could let off the sudden surge of excess heat. Her eyes began to tear up, trying to block themselves from the heat. Indeed, these temperatures were just as bad, if not worse than when it was freezing cold. Geez... This Pokemon had better be worth it. She thought to herself as her lungs filled with the smoky, hot air that filled the lower levels of the volcano. Coughing, she stopped, trying to adjust to the drastically different conditions. At the same time, she began trying to ignore the heat by focusing on where the strange sound had been coming from.

A jet blast of steam had shot out from the cracks of nearby rocks. Hidden among the many blasts of steam was the shadow of an almost human-like figure. Sitting on the ground making noisy breathing exercises against the warm surface of the wall. A dented wall, actually. Sweat was poured over the beings face as large red eyes slowly looked up to see the new intruder. "Machop?" The Machop questioned, it was feeling rather wary after such a rough training session in the tunnels. Wearily, it lifted itself off the ground to its full height. Eying Aliana up and down. <Who are you?>

Alaina stared at the human-shaped Pokemon in a mixture of confusion and... Well, more confusion. The heat had began to get to her head, causing her to think that the wild Machop was actually a human, and not just a Pokemon with two legs, two arms, and the basic body shape of a human. Needless to say, she was rather taken aback when it spoke only with variations of 'Machop.' Well, society sure has downgraded since I left it. After a few moments, her senses returned. She realized that she was staring at a Pokemon, she was not, in fact, staring at another human being, and that she was in an area with a temperature that was many degrees above her maximum comfort zone. But, that wasn't important. As a trainer, she should be used to such things as temperature changes. She should be able to take it all in stride - or, so she thought. The important facts were that she was a trainer, she was with a wild Pokemon, and she had Pokemon that needed training. She couldn't understand what it had said, but it hadn't run off at very least.
"Um... Yah, I don't speak pokespeak. Sorry. Would you be interested in a battle?" Why beat around the bush? Getting straight to the point was always better, especially when you were having an entirely one-sided conversation. Until she let out her own Pokemon. Then it would be a real conversation, if there was one, and she wouldn't be in it. Ah, the joy of future exclusion...
((Wow, that was weird.))

(( For some reason beyond my understanding, weirdness has a habit of following me around. ^^'))
The Machop snorted as it realized that the human before it couldn't understand a word it said. How pointless it was of him to even ask, though to say the least he was embarrassed himself. Thinking that a human could hear and understand a Pokemon, when a Pokémon could clearly understand their own language.
Snapping out of his own feelings for a moment, he let out an unexpected grin. More training? This would be good, facing the human girl he studied her facial expression carefully. Wondering if she would be able to pull off an interesting battle with him, or if it would be too easy.
<Meh, fine. Give it your best shot, kid.> Forgetting that she couldn't understand him, he face palmed himself. Before looking up at her and giving her a 'yes' signal by nodding. Seriously though, he wondered what she could send out to fight him. Most of the rock types in the Volcano he beat easily, so no wonder he had a big ego.
