The stench hit Eris a couple of moments before Joshua was able to detect it, and she stopped immediately, wrinkling her tiny black nose in absolute disgust. Josh, confused, halted also. "What-" the dark-haired trainer began to inquire, but upon opening his mouth, the stench attacked him as well. Gagging slightly, he put a hand to his mouth and tried not to vomit. "Oh," he choked out quickly, suddenly understanding why Eris hadn't wanted to progress any further down the path. Where was that coming from?
<You were right, Joshua,> Eris said with disgusted disdain, <I certainly did not want to know.> For she had spotted the reason for their dismay, and she most certainly was not happy about it. Honestly, did these Pokemon never hear of bathing?! Eris was always impeccably groomed, except just after a battle of course, but even then she was better than this... thing!
To her disbelief and horror, the zigzagoon did not merely cross their paths, but approached them. And then had the absolute gall to speak to her. <The nerve!> Eris sniffed, backing up a few paces and lifting her chin daintily. <I must certainly would not! When was the last time that you bathed, foul creature?>
"Eris," Josh warned sharply, for this was a wild Pokemon, but it was too late. Besides, he doubted she would have held her tongue even if he had warned her in time. Eris was a very forward, catty - no pun intended - feline.

Rather than aiming a harsh retort back at the feline that had turned down his proposal, the zigzagoon simply stared at the cat with a frozen expression. Then, turning, he flung the load of garbage into the nearest tree, causing some angry birds to soar away from the horrible stench. He then turned back towards the lovely blue cat, pressing a paw to his heart. <Milady, why do you take offense to me? In my opinion, I smell absolutely ravishing,> Explained the gentlemanly zigzagoon.
<What can I do to win your heart, my dearest flower?> Questioned the raccoon pokemon, taking the cat's paw in his own. It was obvious that he'd had experience flirting with other pokemon, and by the boldness in his voice he'd won many of them over successfully.

Eris was absolutely revolted by the zigzagoons behavior. She blinked a few times in disbelief at his words, letting out a soft hiss of, <Ravishing? You call that ravishing?> The fur along her spine was fluffing up much like a cats, and she narrowed her eyes in anger. She didn't want this disgusting thing coming within one hundred feet of her ever again, and yet he actually had the nerve to continue flirting with her! Wasn't it obvious that he didn't have a chance?
Joshua, on the other hand, was trying not to laugh; out of respect for his partners obvious revulsion. Sure, the smell was disgusting, but it wasn't as bad considering Joshua's height, the air higher up was less contaminated. Plus, Eris was making hilarious expressions, and she was actually starting to tremble with anger, obviously appalled. He regained his composure enough to hold in the giggles, but that didn't change the fact that it was funny.
<Traitor!> Eris accused, affronted. But her attention quickly snapped back to the flirting Pokemon. <You don't have anything, any chance of winning my affections, you filthy scoundrel!> Not at all! There was no way! And they weren't taking this one home, no matter how much Josh wanted to beef up his Pokedex! Disgusting! Hissing, Eris extended her claws in a threatening manner. <Get away from me!> she snarled at the zigzagoon.

Zigzagoon's face turned crestfallen as the cat made it obvious that she wouldn't extend her love to him. The sound of his heart breaking was almost audible in the still, awkward silence. Then the dog stood up, letting go of the cat's paw and staring sadly at her. He turned his head away in shame. <Then I shall wander, lost, without a woman to call my own..> He murmured. Then the raccoon started away, his tail slightly fallen. The wild Pokémon watching had enough of a heart to watch, faces sympathetic, as the poor zigzagoon left the vicinity of the lady he'd failed at seducing.
Zigzagoon is leaving. Interfere or move on?

Watching the crestfallen Pokemon, Joshua felt almost bad for it. Eris had been rather cruel in the way she'd handled the situation. Perhaps the raccoon-like Pokemon really didn't know how bad he smelled? Though he would never feel such sympathy toward a person, he almost wanted to call the Pokemon back and sympathize with it. However, seeing the way he was looking at the departing Pokemon, Eris hissed.
<No way!> she snapped. <That Whismur was bad enough! You are not! Not unless you want to lose my trust?> This last sentence was posed as somewhat of a challenge, as she glared at him slightly. Josh knew, no matter how much he might feel bad, that she wasn't kidding around this time. She was adamant about not getting anywhere near the heartbroken raccoon any time soon. "Fine," Joshua sighed, nodding. "Let's keep going, then." In his head, he added, I hope he's alright... even if he did smell awful... ha!

Pokemon often went about their days in a silent fashion, not wanting to disturb their hungry or predatory neighbors. However, sometimes wild critters will accidentally disturb others whilst foraging and doing their daily tasks. At that moment, near Joshua, a few things happened.
To the left, a few rocks fell out of a tree, as if pushed. They fell onto a bush and caused a pokemon inside of the bush to make a loud cry of pain, at which the one in the tree laughed mischieviously. To the right, a crunching of leaves and twigs signified that a pokemon was walking there. And far in the front, a pokemon ran across the road as if they were escaping from something.
[Investigate any of these areas or move on?]

Several things seemed to be happening at once, and Joshua paused for a moment to take it all in. However, the most dominant of the situations, the one that caught his attention, was the cry of pain he heard from a nearby bush. Concern for whatever Pokémon had been injured, or possibly injured at least, Joshua glanced down at his partner. "Should we check it out?" he asked her. Josh knew Eris was still in a bit of a huff from the earlier incident, so by enlisting her opinion, he hoped to regain her trust slightly.
She raised an eyebrow at him, catching on. Eris debated on whether to yank Joshua's chain and mess with him for a bit, but eventually decided that he was trying his best to be nice - sigh - and nodded slightly. <Alright, I'll check it out.> When he looked at her in surprise, she snorted softly. <What? Did you expect to be able to fit under a bush?>
"Touche."
So Joshua waited patiently, watching the Pokémon dash across the path ahead. I wonder what it's running from? However, he wasn't about to abandon Eris in favor of his curiosity.
Eris, meanwhile, stepped delicately under the bush. <Hello? Are you alright?>

Inside of the bush, an injured rabbit was sitting on her butt and rubbing the new bruise on her head, hissing with pain. Seeing the cat enter the bush, her eyes widened a little. <D-don't come closer!> She squeaked, attempting to push the cat out from whence she came. However, she was too late; another rockfall descended, hurting the rabbit once again and possibly the Glameow as well. Turning her head upwards to face the rude pokemon, she shook her fist. <Hey! Rain your rocks somewhere other than my house or I'll... I'll...!!!> She seemed to think this was a good place to end her threat, as she did not continue to speak, simply glared up at the tree that was producing the constant stones.
::buneary::
<Haha, rocks is fun...> Called a dim-sounding voice, as the pokemon in the tree continued to gather more of his stored rocks to toss down. <I like throw rocks, make bunny dance..> He bellowed, tossing another rock down. The Buneary dodged, making an indignant face. If one looked closer, they could make out that the one tossing stuff down was a sloth hanging by three legs and using his other to throw.
::slakoth::
Meanwhile, the reason the pokemon was running excitedly across the path became clear as the ground began to rumble slightly. This didn't affect the Buneary and sloth, who knew these things happened every day and where out of the herd's way anyway. A stampede of Stantler came bustling through, dodging the trees and shrubs with dexterity. Only one of them was clumsy - a young female that looked to be slightly injured. She finally stopped and was shoved aside by other Stantler who were healthy and in a hurry themselves. The injured female lay there on the dusty road, others careful not to trample her but unable to help her.

Eris hissed with pain and anger as the barrage of rocks descended upon them. <You should run away,> she said to the Buneary, surprised that the rabbit Pokemon had not done so already. <As in, you know, get out from under the bush?> Wouldn't that make a lot more sense than just standing there and taking it? In Eris' honest opinion, the Pokemon was being slightly idiotic.
Joshua, on the other hand, was momentarily distracted from his Glameow's mission by the rumbling of the path. "What the...?" Was some Pokemon using Earthquake? If so, that could be potentially dangerous to both he and his Pokemon. He opened his mouth to call Eris back to him, but before he could get so much as a word out, he closed it as the reason for the rumbling was made clear. A stampede of Stanler burst across the path. Geez, am I ever glad we weren't standing there! They would have been trampled. However, he noticed one of the herd was shoved out of the way. Uh oh. Is it hurt?
He had to make a decision. "Eris!" he called. "Come see this!"
The navy-colored cat Pokemon flicked her tail in irritation. <I'm sort of busy, Joshua!> she hissed. However, she was curious now, as she'd also felt the trembling of the earth, and so she glanced at the bunny Pokemon. <You really should get out of his way, you know,> she meowed, jerking her head upward toward the irritating Slakoth. <I would help you, but my trainer seems to have other plans.>
She bounded out of the bushes and to Joshua's side. Josh himself had approached the injured Pokemon. "Hey... are you alright?" he asked her. "What happened?" None of the herd had stopped to help her, which seemed unfair.

The rabbit turned indignantly towards the cat. <As a matter of fact, I was about to, but then you came along and I decided to try to help!> She chattered, appalled at the cat's biting sarcasm. To think, now she had two annoyances to bother her. As the strange feline left her vicinity, the Buneary called back, <Whatever. I'll save my house myself,>. Turning, she began to scramble up the tree - or at least attempt to get her footing. The sloth hurled rocks down at her to prevent her advancement, but she dodged them gracefully and slowly but steadily came up to the top, where she and the sloth began to battle fiercely against each other.
::buneary:: ::slakoth:: Buneary and Slakoth are battling!
The injured Stantler raised her head a little to look up at the caring human, eyes slightly shut in her pain. <My leg. I decided it was best to stop slowing down my herd and simply rest here until I am able to catch up with them.> She answered. Her injured hoof raised as she showed the human just how badly she was injured. It was twisted slightly, and the joint had begun to swell.

Eris, having ignored the Buneary's parting words, took a bounding leap and balanced herself carefully on Joshua's shoulder. Surprised by her sudden appearance, he cursed slightly and jumped, but laughed a little as he realized what was going on. "Eris!" he reprimanded gently, "You nearly gave me heart failure!" Her only response to this was a cheeky purr as she settled herself, flicking her ears at his muttering of, "Jeez, you're heavy."
<Hardly,> she mewed tartly. <You're just weak!>
"Hey!"
Still, he was more focused on the injured Pokémon than he was on his own's attitude, and so his brows knit together in concern when the Stanler explained her situation. "Is there anything I could do?" he wondered, then quickly added, "Erm, we could do?" when he felt Eris glaring at him. He wasn't really sure what options they had, but maybe the Stanler had a better idea of what would aid her ailment? He certainly didn't think he could simply leave her here. That seemed about as unfair as the herd leaving her had been.

By this time, the Buneary had come out the victor in the battle and shoved the fainted Slakoth out of the tree he'd been occupying, hurling the rest of the rocks down onto him. <Ha, serves you right for destroying MY house!> Taunted the rodent, throwing a few punches in the direction of the fallen Slakoth. <Time to find myself a new place..> She then muttered, hopping down gracefully from the tree and scampering off.
::buneary:: ::slakoth:: Buneary has fled; Slakoth has fainted.
The injured Stantler rested her injured leg down on the ground again, panting tiredly from the energy she'd used to endure the pain of raising it. She considered his offer silently for a few moments.
<Well, if you could, could you perhaps wrap something around the injury...?> Requested the deer, staring into the man's eyes. Speaking again reminded her, also, that her throat was dry and full of dust from running across the road. <Also, if you have anything that can quench my thirst..> The deer continued, then began to cough as the last of the herd trampled the dust next to her. A few of them turned to look at her as they went, but knew they couldn't lend her help - their needs were too urgent to relinquish for the sake of one fallen deer. Eventually, all that was left to signify that a herd was coming through was a large set of hoofprints embedded into the earth they'd crossed.

Joshua thought about that for a moment. He didn't have any form of bandaging, which made him smack himself internally. What would he have done if he'd been injured? Oh well. But the one thing he did have was the sweater he was still wearing. And it was rather hot out, anyways, so it wasn't as if he particularly needed it. So, shrugging it off, he knelt down beside the injured Stanler as the rest of her herd barreled past. Eris jumped from his shoulder and sat beside him so that she didn't get into the way, curling her tail around her paws and watching her trainer with mild interest. Strange boy, the Glameow thought to herself.
"I'll try and be as careful as possible," Joshua promised the Stanler, "but just warn me if it hurts too much, alright?" He didn't want to cause her more pain that she was already in. How sweet. The arrogant jerk was actually quite capable of being a nice person! Careful not to be rough, he wrapped the cloth around her injury, making sure it was loose enough that it didn't hurt, but tight enough to be useful. "Hmm... now about that water..."
One thing he did have was an empty bottle of water. It had been sitting at the bottom of his bag when he'd set out, and he'd neglected to throw it away. It seemed as if it might come in handy, however. Tugging it out, he glanced at Eris. "Please?" he asked, when she gave him a look. The cat-like Pokemon gave a long sigh before daintily taking the bottle from him and bounding off to find a source of water. On the way, she passed the unconscious Slakoth and sniggered slightly in appreciation.
By the time she'd returned, the once-empty bottle was filled with clear stream water. "Thanks, Eris," Joshua told her. She just nodded curtly and sat back down. Then turning his attention to the Stanler, he gave her the water. "Does that feel any better?" he inquired.

Stantler gave a sigh of appreciation as the jacket was wrapped around her throbbing wound. Now it was protected from infection, something she'd been dreaded as she was traveling with her herd. <Thank you, human.> She said gratefully, her eyes pointed up at the young man.
----
As the cat-like Pokémon came to fill the bottle of water from a stream, a water Pokémon watched her as he swam. Inside her jaws was an object foreign to the creature, which piqued his curiosity. The fact that she was holding something seemingly man-made implied that she was a trainer's Pokémon. The creature, a psyduck, decided to follow her. He came out of the water without much of a sound, then crept noiselessly behind her as she walked back to her trainer. He then hid inside a bush, ignoring the fainted Slakoth - he'd seen many an unconscious Pokémon in his life, and it was a common sight. Patiently he turned his attentions toward the human, whom he'd been expecting to see as he followed the kitten.
---
Stantler watched as the navy-blue cat returned with the freshly filled bottle of water and parted her dry lips as the boy offered the sweet liquid to her. She drank until she was full, which meant the whole bottle was used up. Thirst now quenched, she turned to the human. <What is your name? I must find some way to thank you.> Said the deer.

Eris had the uncomfortable feeling of being watched, and the fur on her spine startled to rise a little. However, a quick and anxious glance around her revealed nothing of interest, and so she tried her best to relax. Still... something wasn't right. Joshua seemed too distracted to be of much use, however, so she simply twitched her ears in discomfort and ignored the feeling.
Josh gave a slight smile when the Stanler seemed to be feeling a little bit better. "You're welcome," he returned genuinely, when she thanked him. It felt good to have been able to do something to help. "My name is Joshua," he supplied, when the Pokemon asked of it. "And it was no trouble, really. I'm glad I was able to help."
Eris stared at him, an amused glint in her eyes. When they'd started walking, he had explained the situation of his family to her. He had also admitted that he had no human whom he could consider a friend. Basically, her trainer had seemed like he wouldn't treat anyone very well. (Except her. She demanded respect, of course). He was different than she'd expected. Eris had not yet decided whether she liked this about him, or not. After all, Joshua was all for helping that stinking scoundrel. Hmph.

Stantler shook her head, denying his brushing off her want to repay him. She knew things that he didn't, after all. <You are a trainer, if I am not mistaken.> She stated, eyes pinned on him. <I know a place where you can often find rare pokemon. Not many humans know where it is, but I am sharing this information with you. Would you like me to inform you?> Finished the stag. Just by his actions, she could tell that he wouldn't be a threat to the pokemon in that sanctuary.
The duck that had followed after the cat, however, thought not. Even as he listened to her speak, he felt a rising need to object to her proposal. Finally, he snapped and jumped out of the bush he was taking refuge in. <Hold it right there!> Quacked the duck, pointing his finger at the injured steed. <It's not right to mention such a secret place to a trainer.. they always screw it up!> He said, his motives that of good. He seemed forceful, but he truly wished for no sanctum to be harmed by greedy humans.
The stag retaliated with words of her own. <I am sure this man wouldn't hurt any of them. He stopped just to help me,> She said defensively. <He deserves the chance to take care of one.. or more of them.> She continued in the man's defense.

Rare Pokémon? That could most definitely be a great place to further his Pokedex. And the Stanler was right; Joshua meant no harm to any Pokémon. He and Eris would only go after the Pokémon that challenged them, or threatened them violently in some way. He wouldn't want to hurt any of them. Pokemon, to Joshua, were the companions that people had never been. He'd never had a friend. Most people were warded off by his arrogance and pride. So he dipped his head in agreement to the Stanlers words. "Sure. And you have my promise that I won't do anything to harm the wild Pokémon there." Heck, he'd do his best to only catch them if he won the right in a fair battle, and had their agreement as well. Josh wasn't a double-crosser. Not to friends.
However, it seemed that a Psyduck had a different view on things. He was rather surprised to see the yellow duck Pokémon emerging from the bush. How long had it been watching them?
Eris, however, fluffed up her fur and snarled. <Were you stalking me? I knew I sensed something!>
"Calm down!" Joshua urged her. He didn't want a fight, especially not now. Turning his attention to the Psyduck, he said, "I apologize, but I think you're wrong about me. I have no intentions of harming anyone, nor their homes." In fact, he'd rather do the opposite. If he could find ways to repair and restore anything that was destroyed, or he found a wounded Pokemon, he'd do his best to help rather than hinder them. Such was his nature. "What makes you think I'm a bad person?" If the Psyduck gave reasons, Joshua would find ways to prove him wrong.
Eris wasn't so sure about his kind approach. <Are you suggesting my trainer is a monster?> the femme hissed angrily. <If you are, then take it back! I won't let you say such things about him!>

Stantler nodded her head in acceptance of the trainer's self-explanation, trusting his word after he'd commited such a selfless act for her. Psyduck, however, was cynical about the nature of trainers - how they always felt like they could do willy nilly to whatever place they wanted to, ignoring the thoughts of wild pokemon who lived and went about their own business. He was ready to question the trainer, making sure to keep his mind open, of course.
He cleared his throat. <In response to your last question. Humans are generally not trusted by wild pokemon. They litter, cut down our homes, basically trash the place.. why should we just allow humans to enter our territory, anyway?> Explained the psyduck, face indignant. He ignored the cat's petty insults, having heard such things from trainers' pokemon before. After thinking for a moment, he added, <Well, I suppose I will allow you entrance.. if you battle me and win.> Proposed the duckling, eyeing the Glameow with a fierce gaze. <That will prove that you're dedicated enough to gaining my trust.> He explained.
Stantler nodded her head in recognition of the psyduck's proposal. <I agree with this plan. If you defeat him, I will give you directions.>

Well. So much for the 'let's not fight' plan. But still, Joshua never backed down from a challenge, and he nodded curtly in acceptance. Eris was already raring to go, he could see it in her fierce expression, and so he needn't worry about having her agreement. "Very well," he said. "If you wish to settle this by battling, so be it." Eris hadn't taken too much damage after he'd healed her with the Potion, and so Joshua was confident she was in almost, if not completely, top shape.
And now for the battle itself. "Faint Attack!" he commanded. They had been unable to use this crucial move in their last battle, thanks to Whismur being the first to attack. But thankfully, they were more fortunate this time around.
A determined glint flashed through the Glameow's bright eyes as she stalked carefully around her opponent, then dashed close without warning so that she was right next to Psyduck. Now that her range was correct, she lifted one paw and extended her claws before doing her best to land a hard blow on her opponent.

Psyduck had been watching the Glameow approach, his guard let down as the cat crept towards him. An odd power kept him from attempting to dodge the attack, and he let out a quack of pain as the ripping claws shred through his glossy yellow flesh. Jumping away, he turned back towards the cat and thought up his counterattack.
He decided to go with a simple Scratch, thinking that it would be too late to land a hit if he dilly-dallied using Tail Whip first. Scrambling towards his feline enemy, he raised his feathered hand and attempted to rake his claws across the cat's shoulder area.
