Rio flicked her whiskers, annoyed at this Paras’s paranoia. She had been nothing but friendly in asking her question, and this was her reward? Getting snapped at by a disturbed fungi-controlled bug. Or whatever it was. The Meowth had absolutely no desire to eat the creature, but scratching it up a bit would serve it right. <Hmph. Fine, then.> Without any further warning, she darted towards the Paras, ready to give it a nice scratch across the face.
Kenna heard her Meowth’s irritated mew, and sighed. The Paras was not cooperating, it seemed. Ah, well. She’d let Rio handle this one on her own.

<“Leave me alone!”> The Paras blurted out anxiously, trying to scuttle out of the way of Rio's Scratch attack, but not moving quick enough to get out of the way of the scratch cat pokemon's raking claws. The Orange and Pink bug & mushroom Pokémon let out a squeak of pain at the scratch, and scuttled backwards into the grass. As it went, the bug Pokémon which was constantly badgered by its tochukaso said it again. <”Stay back!”> and then it rubbed it's face with it's left foreclaw, as if it was saying it was ready to fight. It was a reflex of the nervousness of it all, it had to get away from this cat Pokémon! It had to because it didn't want to be someone's food! And the tochukaso wouldn't be quiet, either! There was only one thing which could be done, she reasoned, and then the 'Mushroom' Pokémon rocketed a blast of spores into the air, trying to turn around and run full force into the grass and safety away from the road. The Stun spore would be helpful, she knew this to be true! And those little spear point legs scurried as fast as she could try to go. Not fast enough to clear the distance between Kenna, her pokemon, and the Paras, though. ::Paras:: Hit by Scratch! Used Stun Spore, attempted to flee.

The stun spore, to Rio’s utmost dismay, worked splendidly. The spores completely froze the feline for just long enough for the Paras to escape. Finally gathering her strength enough to move past the paralysis, Rio made her way back to Kenna. She could have made chase, but that would have just been too much effort. Someone else would punish the bug, she was sure of it.
Kenna, noticing the moment of silence and then rustles as Rio returned, could not tell that her Pokémon had been harmed at all until the Meowth was at her feet and made a pitiful mew. ”Didn’t work, huh? We’re close to town, I’m sure.” She leaned down to pick up her Pokémon and felt how stiff she was. ”And we can get something to unparalyze you. Sorry I don’t have anything with me. In or out of the ball?” Rio snuggled up against her trainer and made herself comfortable in her arms. Kenna snuggled her right back, laughed, and continued down the dark trail.
And, of course, after about three minutes of walking she stepped onto pavement. Kenna wasn’t about to say it, but she was quite irritated in knowing that her Meowth had been paralyzed for nothing.
--- BREAK FOR CITY TIME ---
Though unable to use the Pokemon Center for healing her Pokemon, Kenna was able to heal up her partners with a few potions and paralyze heal, as well as sleep in a decent bed for the first time in weeks. Then, that attended to, she decided to return to Route One for a while longer in order to train Rio and Dagger. She had the Rare Candies, still, but she would save them for the time being.
As she entered the route, Meowth at her side, Kenna was sure to remember which way she was going so that she would not get lost a second time. Rio was pouting; the cat had been looking forward to a warm bath, though was most displeased to discover that there was no hot water due to the lack of electricity. Even though she knew it was not Kenna's fault, she was still irritated. Kenna couldn't help but smile slightly, knowing very well that her partner would take her anger out on the first wild Pokemon she came across.
For the time being, the pair were walking along the main path, tall grasses on both sides of them.

<I'm so hungry ladida~>Slithering around in the tall grass he was hoping to find something delicious to eat. Thou he was completely content with berries being a outcast from his fellowmen due to his ways of life of being what humans would call a "vegetarian". He just needed meat once in a wile. He did not like it, but he needed it. <Oh! I see.. Flesh ladida~>Slightly singing his way towards what he thought was meat he jumped and slithered himself around the prey with his Wrap attack. However unfortunately for him he was now out of the tall grass and on a trainers foot. <Oh crap! ladida~>Looking around he noticed the girl trainer had a Meowth and this was slowly starting to look bad for the oddly singing Ekans. Slowly releasing his grip from the trainers foot he was ready to make a run for it. Wide eyes on his face he knew that Meowths was ruthless cats and that he should run, even though he was hungry. ::Ekans:: Used Wrap on Kenna's Leg

Kenna did not react too extravagantly as she was suddenly attacked by the large snake. She stiffened a bit, widened her eyes, but honestly? She’d had worse things happen to her than having her leg wrapped up by a low-level Ekans. She was content to glower at the creature as he slowly unwound. Without even needing to voice an order, Rio was all over that shit. All over it.
<Who are you to attack my Kenna?> the feline hissed, her eyes narrow slits. A perfect target to take her anger out on -- a Pokemon who asked for it. Though honestly? She wouldn’t have minded just flattening an innocent passing creature, this worked a bit better. With a growl, she scratched at the Pokemon who was still slightly entangled around her trainer’s ankle.

Ekans was quite afraid of the cat, even before it spoke, but once it boldly declared it's anger, his fear intensified even still. No longer singing, as his cheerful mood had been disrupted, he gave a strangled hiss of fear and slithered backward upon hearing the thing growl at him.
<It was a misunderstanding!> he insisted, rearing back to avoid the sharp claws of the Meowth. This was why he was a vegetarian. Trying to get meat was such a long and unrewarding process, it didn't even taste very good going down. He wished that he could merely survive off his Oran and Sitrus berries, and be done with it.
But of course, winter got in the way of that. Winter came along and killed all of those delectable delights, and that threw a wrench in the vegetarian plans, for sure.
Knowing that he would still need to defend himself, despite not wanting a fight, he stared his opponent down before striking fast and spitting poisonous barbs from his ivory fangs.

Rio was far too pissed off to be fearful of the Ekans leer, and ignored it completely. She was not so lucky as to avoid the poisonous barbs, though she tugged them out of her chest before the poison could properly sink in. Still, they stung. With a hiss that turned into yet another growl, the cat circled around her prey. Responding wasn't even worth it. She just wanted something to rip apart -- words were not needed for such a goal.
"How does a bite sound?" Kenna asked.
<Not bad at all,> came Rio's reply. Eyes narrowed, she darted at the Ekans, trying to bite it just behind its head.

The Ekans gave a strangled snarl of pain when the Meowth chomped down behind his head. Trying to struggle free, he instead only made matters worse for himself by causing the bite marks to open wider. Eventually managing to slither free of the Meowth's hold, he spun around quickly, trying not to be caught by surprise from behind. You could never trust a cat.
<I didn't mean to attack her!>
Though they were clearly in the midst of a battle, Ekans was still trying, somewhat, to reason with the angry feline. He really didn't want to become Rio's lunch. Honestly, for one that hated eating meat himself, being eaten wasn't on the top of his bucket list.
All the same, he wanted to defend himself. Panicking, more poisonous barbs were shot out toward his opponent. <Stay back!> he insisted in a terrified and worried tone.

Indeed, reasoning with an angry feline is not an easy task, particularly when the individual involved was looking for a fight to begin with. Arguing was worthless. <I don't care,> she replied simply, hopping nimbly out of the way of the attack. She would not be poisoned, not right now, not after she had just had to deal with paralysis.
Without any further words, she darted at the snake head on, trying to wrap her paws around to scratch at the open wound at the back of the snake's head. Making an already gaping wound worse? Sounded good to her.
And even though Rio had had a fine meal last night at the Pokémon Center, and an equally pleasant breakfast, the idea of chewing on a bit of Ekans was not displeasing. Kenna had not spoken out for an order this time, instead choosing to see what her Pokémon would do on her own. Plus, the two seemed to be conversing -- rather, the snake was trying to plead for his life. Kenna wasn't so sure that she or Rio would spare it.

Oh no.
No, no, no.
She wasn't going to let him go, was she? The cat had simply just professed that she didn't care whether he'd attacked her trainer or not, that she was going to continue coming after him anyways. Never having been faced with such savage and uncouth behavior before, Ekans was, for a moment, stiff with fear. He couldn't move. He didn't know what to do. His life was flashing before his eyes, and - MOVE, DAMN IT!
This last part he screamed in his mind, but didn't manage to get out of the way far enough. Meowth's sharp claws scored through his sensitive flesh, and he hissed with pain and horror. <Don't kill me!> he insisted, scared for his life more than he'd ever been.
Deciding that fighting might just be futile, the Ekans decided to take another direction, quite literally, by slithering into the bushes and curling into a terrified ball. Maybe the Meowth would be bored and leave.
Maybe?

Nope. Rio would not just let the Ekans flee. Whether or not she killed the creature depended on her precise mood at the moment where it mattered. For now, she just wanted to see it faint. Death? Maybe, maybe not. Such was the nature of a fickle feline. Shooting a quick glance at her trainer, who nodded her approval, Rio darted after the snake.
She was faster, and caught up quickly to the coward. Slowing her approach as she drew near, Rio allowed the fear to sink in to her prey. A true predator, a true tormentor. It was just another hung, another game. <We'll see,> she replied in response to the earlier request for his life, a small smile touching the edge of her mouth. She leapt towards the Ekans, going in for yet another bite to the throat.

Fatigue started to creep through his muscles, the Ekans recoiled in panic as it's feline opponent leapt towards him, it's maw wide open, targeting his throat for a vicious bite attack. Flailing for a few milliseconds, the Ekans tried to fling himself to the side to avoid the Meowth. Alas, it didn't work; halfway into the dodge, the Meowth managed to sink it's teeth into the Ekan's deep purple flesh. The snake Pokemon released an involuntary hiss of pain as he felt the sharp fangs pierce his skin. Pain spread like ripples through his body. Writhing in pain for a moment, the Ekans felt a flash of determination - he wouldn't let the Meowth walk all over him like this. Or would he? It seemed like a lot of work and unnecessary pain to pick himself up. But yes, he'd do it. He wouldn't just lie there like a weakling. Or he could try to flee again... Weighing his chances in his head, the Ekans decided that the Meowth would rip him to shreds if he tried to run away. Might as well try to inflict as much pain on him as possible while he could... His muscles screaming out in pain as he reared upwards, the Ekans lost all the will to battle. But still, the snake slithered towards the Meowth, trying to hide itself in the grass out of sight. Then, once he'd reached an acceptable distance away from one of the Meowth's paws, he shot himself upwards, aiming to Wrap himself around the feline to choke it.

Allowing herself to be caught by the Ekan's weakening coils, Rio made sure that her paws were free, not clenched against her body. As the snake tightened its grip around her, Rio clawed fiercely at the snake's unprotected body; either the snake would pay for its imprisonment of her, or it would let go before her claws sank in. Either way, the Meowth would win. For the time being, the tightness around her torso was just a slight inconvenience.
Kenna hopped off the path, following the sounds of battle. She was not at all surprised, nor too concerned, to find Rio in the snake's grasp. Her Meowth knew what she was doing; she had perfect faith in her strongest partner and friend.

The Ekans, still contracting against the feline, gave a louder hiss of pain than before - it's claws were streaking across the Ekans' flesh, piercing it and actually drawing blood. As the rich liquid dripped from the Ekans' fresh wounds, he vowed to keep attacking; and so, battling through the pain, the deep purple snake contracted again tightly around the Meowth's furry frame. This Ekans is a tough one!

Kenna continued watching from the sidelines, refusing to step forward should her act of interference insult her Pokemon. This was Rio's fight. She needed to let out steam, Kenna completely understood that. Still, seeing her friend wrapped up like that was painful.
Rio hissed as the Ekans refused to give in. Claws were not enough, it seemed. Fine, then. It was getting difficult to move, though she could feel the snake's muscles weakening by the second. Another bite or two should do it. Craning her neck around so that she could see the creature's head, Rio leaned in so as to plunge her teeth into the already mangled creature's neck.

<Ladida~ I have a cat. Ladida~ it is all mine. Ladida~ I will beat it. Ladida~ victory's fine!> Smirking, the ekans was feeling quite satisfied with herself. The Meowth was bound, and though she was weakening, if she could just keep squeezing, just keep her focus up a little longer, this fight would be hers! Her plan however, didn't include sharp teeth. With a hiss of pain she could feel her strength rapidly draining away as the meowth dug in with those terribly sharp fangs. She had just needed a quick snack, a dine and dash if you will. This wasn't at all what she'd bargained for, it was time to run and fight another day! Releasing her bind the ekans tried to get away from the meowth, firing a point blank poison sting at the feline. Why wouldn't this this just stop moving? Rio's anger was growing fiercer by the second, and it was escalated by the fact that she was stabbed by the poison sting. With a yowl, the feline leaped back away from the Ekans before ripping out the sting from her shoulder. She was bleeding, now, from the wound, and sharp jabbing pains told her that she had been poisoned.
That was it. This snake was going to die.
Kenna watched, her eyes hardening as she saw her beloved Meowth poisoned. Well, that was just fantastic. She didn't have any items that would cure such a thing. At least she was close to town; she could run in. Stealing from the PokeMart in full daylight was not a good idea, but maybe she could find a trainer who would sell one to her? She could hope.
Doing her best to ignore the fire sweeping through her veins, Rio ran forward and dove for the creature's head. Maybe she could just bite its entire skull, ripping it from its body...

The Ekans felt the pain of the bite again, letting out a long exagerated hiss as the teeth dove into its head. crack! The hiss turned into a wail of pain as her skull cracked under the force of the teeth. <Ow...> She tried to pull away, body twisting around itself.
The world started to spin, Ekans could feel herself being torn from the real as she spiraled into blackness, her mind going blank. Secretly she cursed the feline, wishing they had never crossed paths. But they did. Her body falling limp as she let out one last hiss.

Feeling the body grow limp around her, Rio released her grip on the head of the Ekans and pushed the creature off, hopping painfully out of its grasp. She turned around to face the creature that had filled her with poison, eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. Her anger had not been sated in the least; now she was poisoned. Damn thing. Hatred flooding her gaze, she picked up the Ekans's head in her paws, then dug her fangs into the back of the neck, severing its spinal cord from its body.
Dropping the now completely lifeless form, Rio collapsed. Kenna rushed over to her feline, and pulled out a potion. "Why did you have to overexert yourself like that?" she asked, spraying her Pokemon with the healing item. It would not remove the venom from her blood, but it would help. "Stubborn kitty." Rio grinned weakly. With a sigh, Kenna returned her weakened Pokemon to her Pokeball. It would lose strength slower in there.
She had been looking forward to training while on route, but now it looks like she'd have to find someone who could give her -- or sell her -- an antidote. There had to be a human around here somewhere with one. Returning to the path, she strained her eyes, looking up and down both ways, eager to find someone who could help her.

[Here, I'll help ya out xD Josh has an Antidote... and I don't really need it]
He wasn't on the route for the purpose of training, not today. Nah, he'd just decided to take a walk, and given that he'd been in Electric City, this had seemed like the only logical way to go. He made sure that his Pokeballs were hidden by his jacket - it was getting cold, damn winter - and did not release any of his companions, so that any of the route trainers left him alone. He wasn't really in a battling mood. He'd done enough of that at the Plant for days on end, and for now, he was just relishing in the fact that he was taking a break.
The first trainer he encountered, however, was not one of the trainers he'd noticed on the route on his first travel through it, with Eris as his fledgling partner. No, in fact, it was someone he recognized from the Pokemon Exchange that had happened recently at the lab.
"Kenna?" he wondered, to himself, as he drew closer.
Yes, this was definitely Kenna, she wasn't exactly hard to recognize. He smiled slightly, but his expression faltered as he noticed that her Meowth - oh, how Joshua loved cats - seemed ill... right before she returned it to it's Pokeball. She hadn't seemed to have noticed him, yet.
Clearing his throat to get her attention, he wondered, "What's wrong with your Pokemon? I have a few items... perhaps I could help?" Antidote, Awakening, Paralyzing Heal - things he'd either purchased, or nicked, or found.
