So engrossed in the battle and worried for her Meowth, Kenna had not noticed the approach of Josh; even looking up and down the paths, she had been in such a hurry that she had somehow overlooked the familiar male figure. She was in quite a state of concern, well aware of the likelihood of her Pokemon succumbing to the poison and falling into unconsciousness thanks to it. Shops had been closed for days. This route was full of poison-types. Trainers needed all the healing items they could get. Rio would--
Kenna looked up, surprised, as Josh made his presence known. Her blue eyes, scrunched up in concern, widened in surprise at his approach; she’d assumed that he was further along than Route One. Regardless, she was thrilled to see him. ”Josh! My Meowth was poisoned and I -- would you really?” she asked, her sentences merging as he dumped out a selection of items.
Instantly recognizing the Antidote, she resisted the urge to take it and heal Rio. That would be too abrupt, too rude, for the image she had been portraying. He had already offered help; let him offer the item, too, rather than have her just take it.

See, now usually in situations like this, Joshua would hold the desired item over a trainers head, demanding something in return for the precious commodity. And seeing how desperate Kenna was, it would have been incredibly easy to do so.
However, Josh quite liked Kenna. She'd bought his Surskit, but besides that, her personality intrigued him. She came off as the sort of person he could get along with. So instead of demanding cash or other items for it's helpful properties, he merely smiled and selected the Antidote, handing it over to her. "Of course I would - do I look like the type to let a Pokemon suffer for my own gain?"
Seems like he had other ulterior motives, as well. He didn't want the Meowth to suffer. How... adorable? It really didn't fit in with the brutal, tough image he was going for, but hey, Joshua actually cared about Pokemon.
However, upon noticing the Ekans which was all but missing it's head, he merely raised his brows and smirked. "And I take it that's the culprit," he remarked dryly. He wasn't offended. Sometimes, death was something you had to deal with. And he could understand their desire to take down the snake if it had endangered Rio's health. He'd do the same for Eris.
"Well, I'd better be going. I should probably return to the city... I've already been through the route, of course, I was merely out for a walk. What a coincidence, eh?" Giving a friendly grin, he jerked his hand in a half-wave. "Good luck." He then continued down the path.

Kenna accepted the Antidote gratefully in both hands, smiling as she shook her head at Josh’s first remark. He didn’t look the sort to accept suffering, but neither did Kenna; appearances were deceiving, and Kenna was not one to trust anyone too closely. Still, she liked Josh. Especially now. Ulterior motives or not, he was helping her out of a bind. She’d repay him someday.
Glancing at the Ekans, she grinned slightly, apologetically almost, at Josh’s remark, but said nothing in response. “Thanks so much,” she called after him as he walked away, both to his assistance and generic desire for her success. So she had been right; he was further along than the first route. She wondered just how strong he was. Someday she’d find out.
Once he had left, she let out Rio and sprayed her with the Antidote. The feline shivered as it soaked her fur, but felt that complaining would be silly; she’d gotten into that mess of her own accord. <I thought you didn’t have one of these?> the feline asked, tilting her head and leaning forward to sniff the now empty bottle as she felt strength return to her limbs.
”A friend gave it to me.” Kenna nodded to the male, still slightly visible down the path.
Rio looked in the indicated direction, then sniffed. <We would have been fine without him,> she said, licking the fur on her chest.
Kenna grinned at her Meowth, glad to see she was feeling better. Though the precise words were unknown, she could tell that the idea of being helped by a stranger was embarrassing. ”Shall we carry on?”
Responding with an enthusiastic meow, Rio bounced ahead of Kenna, heading on down the trail, tail held high in the air, ready for action. Though without poison involved, this time. Hopefully.

As Kenna continued on her journey things were rather quiet in the area. No pokemon came jumping out, and things were eerily silent the end. As a gentle wind blew through the area though, the sound of a pokemon quickly became audible. What pokemon it was couldn't be determined, but whatever it was it sounded quite frustrated about something. At about the same time there was a sudden rustling in a nearby tree as some pokemon, was jolted awake by the sudden noise and fell from the tree quite noisily into an adjacent shrub. Both pokemon were in opposite directions of one another, and even now seemed to be rapidly growing quieter. ^ | <---- | ----> Investigate either the fallen pokemon, frustrated pokemon, or ignore both?

As the disturbance rang out throughout the area, both Kenna and Rio looked at each other. Both were more curious in what had caused the sudden noise rather than what had been startled by it. Kenna, therefore, nodded towards the sounds of frustration. With a nod of her own, Rio started out in that direction, her claws drawn should battle be necessary.
Head towards the frustrated Pokemon

Though battle it what Kenna and Rio sought, they would be sorely disappointed. Past some trees, and at a nearby clearing, a little hoppip was standing on a rather large rock. [pink] <Ok this time for sure! One....two....three!>[/pink] As the last word was shouted the little hoppip jumped from the rock, determined to fly. For a brief moment the light weight pokemon soared through the air, before plummeting to the ground. [pink] <Oh darn! Take off failed again...one more try!>[/pink] The little hoppip said, oblivious to the approaching meowth and trainer, intent on figuring out how to fly so she could see the world. ::hoppip::

As they drew closer to the source of the disruption and saw what it was, both Kenna and Rio stopped. Looked at each other. Then laughed. How had a Hoppip been making such a ruckus? It was almost cute how it was trying to fly. Did Kenna really want to put a dampen on how this little critter's parade? Hoppip couldn't, after all, fly. Not really. I mean, they could sort of drift places, but usually not of their own accord. Did the Hoppip really want to succumb to the wind like that? All it had to do was wait a few minutes for the autumn breeze to kick back up.
In any case, it took a moment to decide whether or not battling this thing was worth it. And if she really wanted to. It was cute, and really not doing any harm -- save destroying the peace. And how much of a fight would it -- could it? -- put up?
Rio looked up at her trainer curiously. Kenna met her gaze, then shrugged. A battle was a battle. "Go ahead. Fake Out." Eager to try out her the new technique, Rio crept forward through the brush, then lunged out at the Hoppip, trying to startle it before it could react.
::meowth:: Used Fake Out (An attack that hits first and makes the target flinch. It only works the first turn the user is in battle.)

Back on top of her rock the Hoppip took a deep breath as she got ready for another flight attempt. She was going to do it this time! She just knew it. [pink] <One....two...three!>[/pink] Again the little cottonweed pokemon took off and this time there was a nice breeze blowing. Delighted she looked about, happily telling the world about how she was flying, when the cat appeared. It was so sudden, so unexpected that she had no idea what to do. Since when did cats fly!?! As she was batted back to the ground, it was only then she realised she'd only been a few feet off the ground, and not thousands of feet in the sky. [pink]<Hey hey hey! That wasn't very nice...>[/pink] she sniffed, wanting to try and intimidate the feline, but way too scared to even move. ::hoppip:: Hoppip Flinched!

Rio was not an easily intimidated feline. Rather, she was not easily intimidated by small puffballs who spent most of their time floating along with the breeze. Hardly terrifying. Quite pleased that her attack had struck, the cat grinned at the pinkish-red creature. <Sorry to interrupt, but I'm rather in the mood for a battle, if you don't mind,> she meowed, dipping her head in a mock bow.
"Bite, now, try and keep it down." Kenna had walked closer so she could watch the flow of the battle.
Without waiting for a response from the Hoppip, and taking advantage of its fear, Rio lunged forward, jaw gaping, hoping to grab its fat body. Or was it a head? Both.
::meowth:: Rio used Bite.

[pink] <H-hey hold on who said anything about battling!>[/pink] the hoppip cried with alarm, splashing about uselessly on the ground in a panic. As the meowths fangs dug deep the hoppip burst into tears, this was not what she'd had in mind when she woke up this morning. [pink] <Help help please! I'm being eaten, i'm going to die, there's a murderer on the loose~!>[/pink] she called, oblivious to just how accurate that statement really was. hit by biteHoppip used Splash! . . . nothing happened

<Oh, shut up,> Rio meowed, though she did find the cries mildly amusing. They were true, in a sense. She had just killed. Not that she would again right now, necessarily. No, she just wanted to gain strength. Her anger was gone; it was just training right now. But the Hoppip didn't need to know that. Cats did enjoy taunting their prey, after all. She'd play up the ferocious cat act. Though it was hardly an act.
Kenna was slightly annoyed by how pathetic this particular Pokemon was, though there was nothing to do except finish the battle and hope that Rio would gain some experience, at the very least. She had practiced that new move; that was something. "Growl, then scratch!"
Knowing that the Hoppip had no physical moves to weaken did not deter Rio's enthusiasm as she glowered at it and hissed fiercely before darting in again, reaching out with her claws this time.
::meowth:: Used Growl and Scratch.

<S..Stop it!!>The Hoppip screamed as she cried in pain. Her attack power falling further and further down and bruises all over her body. Followed up by even more scratches she screamed. <Why are you doing this?!>She was scared, no doubt at all. She could not fight back either. This was such a scary and weird situation for her to be in. She was only trying to fly and she can't fight back either. <Please Mr.Kitty. I won't hurt you!>Splashing around hoping that he would listen to her plea. She looked at him with big teary eyes wile blood from her wounds were dripping on the ground. ::Hoppip:: Hit by Growl and Scratch. Used Splash... nothing happened.

Geez, this stupid flopping Hoppip would just not go down. Didn’t it even know how to heal itself via Synthesis, yet? It must be at a pretty low level; Rio was slightly miffed that her attacks were not striking hard enough. One more should do it, she told herself stubbornly. <I don’t care if you’re not hurting me,> Rio meowed as she waited for her next instructions. <So sorry?> Not overly comforting words, but such was life for a cat.
”Rio, finish it off with a Bite attack!”
Hopefully finish it off. Stupid little pink thing. Rio bounced forward, trying to hold the thing steady with her paws before going in for a nice big chomp.
::meowth:: Used Bite.

Tears formed in Hoppip's eyes as the Bite sank into her side, making her sob in pain as she desperately tried to escape the Meowth's jaws. What did this thing want with her?! Her own blood was alarmingly scarlet as it mixed with the dust of the ground to become a dull, rusty brown. Why? Why couldn't a wind pick her up and carry her form away? She couldn't move away by herself. That cold gaze... those glimmering fangs. They stopped her dead in her tracks. She couldn't even move. Trying so hard to escape the feline was pushing the little Cottonweed Pokemon to breaking point, and despair was encroaching upon the bonanza of emotion she had felt at being able to fly. Oh how she wished a debonair rescuer would rescue her and love her, treat her with kindness and compassion and welcome her into their warm and loving arms. As the tears trickled down her cheeks, Hoppip toppled over and gave in to unconsciousness. She was utterly defenseless now. Not that that made a big difference for a low level Hoppip. ::hoppip:: Hoppip has fainted. Rio gains a level. .

As soon as the Hoppip grew limp, Rio dropped it, then turned to look at Kenna. <That was sort of pathetic.>
A wry grin formed on the small woman's face. "I sort of feel bad for it. It didn't have a chance." Not bad enough to have stopped, of course. Such was life. Still, it wouldn't be okay for Kenna to just leave the thing unconscious in the middle of a clearing; she walked over and placed the thing under a shrub so its small body would be hidden from predators passing by, at least slightly. The Hoppip was annoying and weak, but it hadn't done anything to deserve death by her hand. Hopefully it would survive, then wake up to find a nice breeze blowing on which she could float away.
Rio watched Kenna, head tilted. She found the girl's concern interesting, and it pleased her to know that Kenna had some sort of standard for the treatment of other Pokemon. Even weak Pokemon. The feline, at this point, wanted a challenge. Hopefully their next combatant would be stronger, more impressive. The cat nudged Kenna with a paw, and the girl nodded. "Let's go find a real opponent, huh? Someone who we can have fun with?"
<Sounds good to me.>

Most Pokémon Breeders would tell you from heuristic that a male Skitty was a rare occurrence in the Pokémon world. It might have been a good thing, really, because having a feminine appearance like that as a boy could be more than a little emasculating to the feminine looking feline. However, the appearance of the stunningly hot female Meowth reignited his natural male ages. Since Wailord weren't common to Route One, she would most certainly do. Trotting up to the Pokémon and Trainer, he mewed confidently to get their attention. >My it's getting crowded in here... Why don't you and I go somewhere else? He rubbed his body against the Trainer's leg to mark her as his own, and by extension, the Meowth with her. >Come on... Pretty please?< he purred luxuriously.

About to move on, the pair paused when they heard a rustle of grass, then a mew. Rio knew it was a Skitty without even looking -- a male one, at that -- thanks to his scent, though the pink creature’s gender was less obvious to the human. Her sense of smell was only that of a human, of course, and she wasn’t one to take a look between a critter’s legs the first time they met. That was just rude.
Rio’s first reaction was to stiffen in irritation as the Skitty rubbed against Kenna. This was her trainer. However, the male’s eyes were mostly -- only -- on her. She felt the skin beneath her fur on her face grow warm with embarrassment and pleasure. Kenna, on the other hand, let out a giggle and knelt down to be on a more even level with the normal-type.
”Oh, wow, aren’t you so adorable?” Rio gave her trainer a sideways glance. ”Handsome?” Kenna questioned. Rio looked content, and Kenna grinned. A male Skitty, huh. Those were, for a common Pokemon, pretty rare. And he was so cute! He’d come up to them. Granted, it wasn’t out of the goodness of his heard; Kenna could see the look he was giving her Meowth.
Rio turned her attention back to the Skitty after seeing Kenna’s interest. Might as well play along. Well, she insisted that she was simply playing the part and that she wasn’t actually attracted to her fellow feline. <Is there anywhere in particular you had in mind?> Rio purred back, licking a paw and looking up through her feline-lashes at the Skitty.
ooc|| God, I love you, Tal. XD

Ooooh, he loved it when they played along. He purred loudly at the Meowth and licked his paw as she sat down. <Well, where ever you're going is fine with me.> his charm was working rather well, he knew how to do it with the ladies, didn't he? He walked over to the Meowth and purred, whiping his tail back and forth. <Well, what'cha say sweet heart?> He purred smoothly.

<You’re welcome to follow us absolutely anywhere,> Rio found herself meowing back, flicking her tail at the Skitty’s nose. Kenna watched the exchange with great amusement; had her Meowth fallen for the male’s attract so easily? Ah, well. He was a very fine beast. If he chose to follow them -- or even join them -- Kenna would not complain. Having a male Pokemon with attract was always a surprise to opponents. Plus he was so damn cute.
Unintentionally reiterating what her Meowth had said, Kenna grinned at the Skitty. ”You want to join us?” She hardly expected him to want to be her Pokemon right yet, but even tagging along would provide him an opportunity to either choose to do so, or for Kenna to battle and capture him. Though she’d have to use another male -- Dagger -- against him. Somehow she didn’t think Rio would be able to battle his pheromones.

>Travelling with you and your.... stunning Meowth is a tempting offer. Tempting indeed," purred Skitty, slinking around Kenna's legs while keeping his eyes firmly on the prize- Rio. >However,< he continued. >I'm not cheap. I want to hear the benefits of travelling with you and your purrrrrrfect Meowth." Curling up on a weather worn rock, he wiggled his nose to get rid of a clump of snow on it. >In fact,< he continued, standing up and stretching every muscle in his legs slowly, luxuriously, with the grace only a feline like himself could muster. >I want to see the strength that one such as myself can find in your capable hands,< he purred. >The Meowth who has drawn me so tantalizingly into her life is very strong, but I could not fight one so beautiful, even though she would doubtless... overwhelm me. I could not hurt such a pretty face." He gazed up at her with a coy smile. ::skitty:: Skitty challenges you. [/B]
