"brr..rrr...rrr... I think....we're having...engine trouble..." Gasping for breath Zacariah slowly staggered forwards, arms lazily extended like wings and sweat streaking from his forehead.
The young man had been running ever since he'd acquired his new pokemon, who he had decided to nickname sleepyhead, or sleep for short. Sleep had been, well, sleeping since he'd gotten him and while he made a good aviators cap, he was pretty heavy; even for someone as accustom to randomly running around as Zac was.
"Mayday...mayday...we're going down!"
With a last burst of energy, Zacariah bolted off the well worn path and towards a nearby tree, eager to get out of the summer heat, and rest in the shade for a bit.
Too tired to stop, the young man simply crashed into the hard enough to shake some of the lower branches. With a big lump no doubt growing on his head, the newbie trainer collapsed onto his back, exhausted.
"Well aren't you smart..." he commented, noticing that as he'd crashed into the tree, Sleep had somehow grabbed onto one of the lower branches, and was fast asleep hanging upside down from the branch.

Seemingly unknown to Zacariah, there was a pokemon sleeping in that tree. The thud that had woken him had come from the boy and his pokemon. Though slightly annoyed, the bird was too tired to make a huge fuss about it. The Slakoth that was hanging from his tree however, had to go. Hopping slowly to the sloth's body, he began furiously pecking at the pokemon's claws, trying to get it off it's territory.
<You have no right to be here. This is my tree. I fought off a Pidgeotto for it! Get off get off get off!>

Ow, ow, ow... Though he'd managed to avoid being squashed under his trainer, an achievement Sleep was rather proud of, it seemed it wasn't the end of his punishment. It had been bad enough a zangoose had kidnapped him, bad enough he'd been turned into a hat and couldn't even sleep in silence on his new trainers head, because of all the weird nosies the weird human had been making. Finally, finally he'd found a nice place to rest and yet again he was being bothered.
<...Lots of tree... just share...> Sleep muttered, his head slowly turning to regard the pesty bird pokemon. With eyes half closed he simply stared, before letting out a rather loud yawn in the spearow's general direction.
::slakoth:: Sleepyhead used Yawn on Spearow!
Below the two pokemon Kyle slowly sat up rubbing his head and mumbling quietly to himself. He definitely needed to rest, but a random pokemon attacking his new buddy wasn't to be tolerated.
Grasping a small rock in one hand, Kyle continued to complain to himself, all the while watching the pair of pokemon from the corner of his eye. Though he wanted to throw the rock and shoo away the weird bird, his curiousity kept him from doing so. After all he knew nothing about sleepyhead, so was the perfect time to see how his new partner behaved.

The spearow was getting rather angry. How dare this ugly thing just cling onto her tree? This was her nest, and she was definitely NOT sharing.
<Share? Why would I share with you? This is my tree and you should be the one to move! Get off get off get off get oooAAAAAAff!> At that last 'off', the spearow felt this sudden urge to let out a large yawn. Recovering from it, she felt that she was getting rather drowsy. What was going on? No! This was her territory, and she had to defend! The bird pokemon fluttered down from her branch and proceeded to aim a peck at the sleeping sloth.

Zac could feel his anger building as he watched the bird pokemon resume it's cruel assault on his pokemon. Sure it wasn't as energetic as him, or as cool, smart, witty, good looking...no this was getting off topic! Regardless of his new friends faults, they were a team now, and it was obvious his pokemon wasn't some mean person. Besides, if this kept up that spearow would start drawing a lot of blood...and how could he wear a hat covered in blood?
"Leave Sleep alone!" Zac yelled, the hand holding the rock, quickly rising up, to fling the rock at the spearow.
Meanwhile Sleep did his best to, well, sleep. Though he was rather annoyed at the bird repeatedly poking his legs, he really couldn't be bothered to do anything about it.

<What is wrong with you, you stupid, sluggish, annoying thing!> The Spearow hissed spitefully, feeling her eyes begin to droop as if they were being controlled by some strange magic. Hopping onto the Slakoth's claws, since he obviously wasn't going anywhere, she tried to get a good grip on his furry paws with her sharp talons.
Staring the uninterested Slakoth down, she started to use a Leer, trying to force the Slakoth to make eye contact with her. Why, if he wasn't going to take her seriously by now, then he never would. It was as if she was a kid begging a parent, and she obviously wasn't getting anywhere. Powerless. That was the feeling. It made her so angry!
Except, she was so sleepy. While standing up, she started to doze off. Her body started to lean forward during the leer, but she caught herself and stood back up, ready for an offensive attack....except she tilted her head back down and fell asleep.

"Damn I missed."
With a growl, Zac climbed fully to his feet, and shifted into readied stance. He might not have the best aim with a tiny rock, but maybe with a pokeball he'd have a better shot. As he reached down and retrieved one of the balls he'd been given, he noticed something strange; the bird was asleep.
Standing there, frozen midway through his wind up Zac stared at the two snoozing pokemon. Sleep was hanging on to the tree, snoring loudly, three limbs grasping the tree, the fourth hanging down and swaying to and fro slightly. Likewise the bird pokemon was just sitting there atop one of sleeps clawed paws, equally tired.
"You bastards, why do I always find the lazy pokemon!?!" he cried out, stomping towards Sleep and lightly pulling on one ear.
As a single eye opened to regard him, Zac pointed towards the spearow atop his pokemon. "Hey Sleepyhead, use scratch on that pokemon." when no response came the boy sighed, before pouting at the slakoth.
"Please? I'll let you sleep once we win." At those words the clawed arm swung upwards at an alarming speed-- at least for a slakoth. Even as slakoth swung its free arm, Zac positioned himself behind the pokemon. Though he couldn't see if the attack connected from his position on the other side of the pokemon, he knew this was probably as good a time as any to try his luck.
With his pokeball still in hand, Zac thrust the ball at the bird pokemon, hoping that by holding on to it rather than throwing it, he wouldn't miss the small bird.

As the sleeping Spearow was easily swiped by the Scratch attack, her talons loosened on the one thing she was holding onto--the Slakoth's free arm. The force of the blow ended up making her fall over backwards, off the tree branch, and right into the ground. The Pokeball had missed and ended up getting stuck in a tree branch, but she had taken double damage from that painful combination. She landed right behind one of the trees, so it was hard to pinpoint the thereabouts.
Either the Slakoth could finish the battle, or Zac could try and catch this thing without gaining any levels. Sure, if he beat it, then he could try to catch it when it was fainted and gain a level, but Slakoth's ability meant that this battle was going to last a while. The Spearow was likely to wake up soon by the time the Slakoth made another attack.

Oh man, when things went bad, they went real bad didn't they?
Like something out of a bad movie, his attempt to both attack and catch the pokemon at once failed miserably. Having never fought with sleep before, his pokemon's attack his harder than Zac had expected, the ball whizzing past and wedging itself in a tree, which would be a bit of a pain to retrieve.
It seemed Sleep was fired up however. The sloth pokemon was already descending from the tree and making its way towards where the spearow had fallen, which was rather surprising to Zac, especially since it was the first time he'd seen the pokemon actually move.
Slakoth was by no means slow, which surprised Zac. He had been sure a pokemon that seemed to constantly sleep would be ridiculously slow. Looks like i'm not in quite as bad a situation as I thought...he mused, watching Sleepyhead climb from the tree and begin looking around for where ever the spearow had fallen.
"Guess you really want that break I promised you, huh?" Laughing to himself, he turned his focus back to the tree, and the pokeball wedged in the branches. He was in no rush, especially since Sleep was determined to earn a long rest and the bird pokemon was fast asleep.
Climbing up into the tree, Zac did his best to retrieve his pokeball, wobbling around on the branch, his back turned to both 'battling' pokemon.

The spearow, tucked behind a tree between a couple of larger rocks, started to twitch a bit, its claws moving quickly without a purpose. The bird wasn't quite awake yet, as the involuntary motion had been caused by a wonderful dream, where the Spearow was feasting on a nice, juicy Caterpie. A blissful look came across the bird pokemon's face as it kept on dreaming in the lovely yawn-induced sleep. It was still relatively well hidden, and good thing too, as the bird was completely defenseless while sleeping. However, the Slakoth was getting closer and closer to the fallen bird and a good sweep of the ground would probably reveal its red feathers that stuck out like a sore thumb. The Pokémon did seem to be twitching more and more often. Was it going to wake up soon? Wild Spearow is asleep

"Almost got it...ahh...ahhh....OH NO!" Zac had been tugging on the pokeball with both hands, wobbling precariously from a rather weak branch. He had managed to pull free his pokeball, but it was at that precise moment he realized the flaw in his plan. Losing his balance Zac frantically flapped his arms, apparently having decided that for now, it'd be better to be a bird than a plane. His arms continued to flap, even as he fell backwards off the tree, landing hard on his back, the pokeball rolling from his open hand as he lay there twitching. <...strange trainer...> thought Sleep, glancing back at his trainer once before continuing to search for the spearow. Swaying, its arms swinging to and fro, it took only a moment for the slakoth to spot some red amidst the greens and browns of the area. Surging forwards the slakoth flung a pursuit attack towards the object, hoping it was the bird pokemon, as he really wanted to get back to just sleeping the day away. The Pursuit had been a nasty one against the Spearow, who instantly recoiled from the dark type move bashing into the side of her body. The force of the blow forced her into a nearby bush, which helped to cushion the blow. Her beak was gently rubbed by the prickly branches, first scratching at the top part near her air holes, then lower near her neck. Her ticklish spot. She instantly woke up with a jolt, flopping out of the bushes like a cartoon character.
<M-my body! You hurt me in my sleep?!> She exclaimed, feeling a strong sense of soreness all over her. She had been having such good dreams too, and she couldn't help but wonder how this happened. She took a threatening step closer towards the Slakoth, but flinched in the process. Her leg. It hurt.
<D-damn you.> She stuttered, flying an inch off of the ground to keep the weight off of her leg. Using the best move in her arsenal, she charged forward with a Peck attack.

The pursuit had been successful, much to Sleep's satisfaction. With any luck that bird would be fainted now and he could sleep. Doing his best not to yawn the slakoth slowly began to head back towards its trainer, who was still laying on the ground, apparently somewhat stunned. Swaying back and forth as it walked, sleep could feel himself getting tired again. He needed at least another 10 hours sleep before he felt like actually waking up...what a hassle this was. The spearow's dangerously sharp beak was racing towards Sleeps back and the pokemon was still oblivious to the danger. In fact he was walking with his eyes closed, having already decided that his trainer, once seeing how awesome he was, would let him rest any minute now. So it was that Sleep failed to notice the small pokeball, dropped earlier by his trainer, even as he stepped on it. ~whooosh!~The sudden unlevel footing threw the half asleep pokemon for a loop, panic racing through him as he careened to the left, and unintentionally evading the spearow's peak attack. slamming into the ground in such a clumsy way though wasn't damage free in itself, the sloth's arm aching from where it landed on it, and its pride was more then a little bruised. Rather than climbing to his feet and racing after the spearow, which he could now clearly see again, sleep decided to stay where he was. Sure his arm hurt but it was kind of comfy laying here...maybe he could get in a nice nap before his trainer got back up... ::slakoth::

Spearow gave a mad screech as she felt herself continuing to slide forward, her motion stopping abruptly when she jammed her beak into a tree. Giving grunts of exertion, the bird placed both talons on the tree and attempted to free herself. Finally, there was a loud pop as her beak exited the wood and she fell backwards on her face, slamming into the ground hard.
A bit woozy, she turned to face the Slakoth who seemed to be asleep now. This was her chance to land a hit now, she thought happily. Rushing once more at the sloth, she angled her slightly-bent beak so that it would be the first thing that hit her opponent - if she managed to come in contact with him, that is. Then she charged, hoping her attack would be successful unlike her last.

Man pokemon were noisy. It had taken a bit of time, but Zac had finally recovered from his fall. Aching all over, the young trainer winced as he sat up, glancing around rather confused, as to what was going on. The bird pokemon appeared to be flying around shrieking and in a fit, while Sleep appeared to be taking a nap. That bastard! clenching his fists, Zac sat up and threw a small rock at his pokemon's head. "Hey! I thought I told you no sleeping until we won!"<...not sleep...just nap...>"What's the difference?"Sleep never got a chance to reply though, as the spearow struck it hard in the shoulder. Crying out in pain the pokemon rolled about, for a time before the pokemon froze, feeling a hand on its shoulder. Glancing up, Sleep was surprised to see his trainer standing over him, especially since so far the strange guy hadn't even been instructing him in this fight like a trainer should. Why was he smiling? What a strange guy. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting Sleepyhead, but I wanted to see what you were capable of. Lets work together and finish this alright?" continuing to smile the boy rose, before turning his attention to the spearow. "I'm going to capture you spearow! Every pilot needs a co-pilot and i've chosen you!" he declared pointing a finger at the bird pokemon before nodding his head slightly and in a low voice saying "Scratch Attack Sleepyhead." ::slakoth::

Spearow flapped to the ground after successfully landing her peck, fierce gaze aimed at the Slakoth. She ignored the trainer's proclamation and kept staring at her opponent, trying not to let herself become sleepy again. Heck, just staring at the sloth made her dizzy.
While she was distracted, it was easy for the slakoth to rake his claws across her belly. Feathers and a bit of blood fell as a result; he'd landed critical damage. Spearow gave a squawk of anguish as she felt the pain of the scratch run through her, flapping a distance away so that the sloth wouldn't have a chance to get a second hit in. She stumbled a little, feeling weak, but still had some fight in her. Hastily she advanced towards the Slakoth again, bending her head down in yet another attempt to peck her foe. This time she aimed for his face, his lazy personage beginning to annoy her.

It was a shame the spearow wasn't cooperating. If it would just stop fighting and surrender he could save it so much grief! Then again, if it just up and gave up it wouldn't really be a pokemon he wanted on his team, now would it?
Watching the pokemon wheel around, he knew it was coming in for another attack. So far it had only been pecking at poor Sleep, who was nursing one arm, especially after that scratch attack. He needed to protect his pokemon, and conserve his potions.
As the spearow swooped in, Zac quickly slipped between the two pokemon, crouched down, his back to the spearow. Crying out he could feel the blood pouring down his back from the blow, and despite himself he fell forwards, ending up on his hands and knees, with Sleep under him.
The pokemon simply stared at its trainer, one hand cautiously reaching out to touch him.
<...Stupid...but nice...> came its words, causing a smile to slip across Zac's face.
"Yeah... maybe I am a bit dumb but you need to stop slacking off! At least dodge attacks when they're coming ok?" though he was met with no response, Zac continued to smile, glancing up defiantly to glare at the spearow once more.

Getting angry that this time the human had gotten in the way of her ferocious strikes of fury, the Spearow landed on the ground smoothly with a harsh glare at the duo. This fight was getting long and tedious, but she had every right to defend her tree. It was hers, after all! That Slakoth had disrespected her as well, and that was not something to be forgiven! She scratched her talons into the earthen ground, kicking up dust like a bull would before charging ahead.
It wasn't likely that the lazy sloth would come running towards her, so instead she decided to give herself a breather. Use a defense lowering move, and try and keep her stamina up. It was annoying mimicking some of that lazy oaf's strategy, but at this rate she was going to Peck herself to death.
<You fools.> She glared, using a defense lowering Leer as she remained completely grounded. It seemed like she was an easy target now, and her weakness was very easy to notice.

With Zac no longer over him, Sleep was free to look around, and spot the spearow, glaring at it in a rather uncomfortable way. Jeeze, didn't the bird know it was rude to stare? Apparently not, since it was still staring! While Sleep obsessed over the birds rudeness and was consequently rather distracted, Zac was focused on the bird. He hadn't realised pokemon were so vicious in their attacks, and in all honesty he felt a little bad letting Sleep get hit so many times up until now, as it really hurt. The stupid bird though wasn't likely going to stop fighting them, and they weren't about to run away either. No, one of them was going to go down and if he had his way it wasn't going to be him. "Sleepyhead, it's time to show this bird our secret technique!"he exclaimed, scooping the startled pokemon into his arms, all the while ignoring its confusion. Lifting the pokemon to shoulder length, the boy stuck out his tongue, eyes squinting in concentration. "Suuuuuuuper....." as he began to speak his muscles began to tense, "...ultimate..." his arms slowly began to move backwards, "SUPER ATTACK!" as the words left his lips Zac lurched forwards hurling his pokemon at the spearow. Being flung through the air was definitely a shocking experience, and though for a brief second he understood why his trainer wanted to fly so much, that sensation was quickly overcome with sheer terror. Eyes as large as dinner saucers, sleep found himself on a collision course with the bird. Squeezing his eyes shut Sleep sucked in a deep breath, before swing its good arm, in a scratch attack. ::slakoth:: Slakoth used Scratch on Spearow!

Spearow had chosen the moment to take her eyes off of Slakoth, believing she still had some time to rest. However, what she did not realize was that the sloth's trainer had picked him up and flung him - FLUNG him..! At her. At the last moment she turned her head to see the steadily approaching figure and realized it was her foe... with his arm whipping at her in a slashing movement.
The claws swiped across her face, causing the bird to screech in terrible pain. The bird stumbled backwards, then simply fell, feeling her conscious thought leaving her. Blood trickling from the slash on her face, the bird allowed herself to fall into a deep sleep.
