A newcomer to route one Duke Valentine, new trainer and self-proclaimed future champion, walked merrily down the path, his new partner, Brie at his side. The two had spent a fair amount of time talking to one another along the way, though admittedly Duke did most of the talking. His new partner seemed quite optimistic, though he had yet to discover her potential in battle. At least outside of battle we get along great... thought Duke, looking down affectionately at his buizel.
"Nothing can stop us Brie! Our journey started off so well and we already have a fan base! " laughing the boy began to race down the path, deciding to put his partner to the test.
"Let's go brie! Last one to that bend in the trail is a rotten exeggcute!" he cried back, waving to his new partner before continuing his mad dash.
For a moment Brie simply watched her new trainer one, kind of confused about why exactly they were racing down the path. Personally she'd rather explore and enjoy her newfound freedom away from the lab...but she definitely didn't want to be left behind! She had no where to go and her trainer did seem nice, didn't he?
It took only thinking back to earlier that day and the young girl in the lab to confirm her thoughts. Without a second thought the buizel raced after her trainer, eager to show off her speed and beat him to the finish, despite his head start.

A Bidoof was wandering amongst the trees, looking around for a good tree to nibble. Suddenly, a noise alerted him. A quick beating of feet against the trail told him that a trainer was hastily approaching. Rather than hide, however, the beaver decided to have some fun. He trudged out of the trees in front of the coming trainer and bellowed out a challenge. <Hey! Hold it right there, you fiends!> He roared, standing his ground.

Both trainer and Pokémon skidded to a stop as they glanced at the strange Pokémon before them. It was a short stubby little thing, and in all honesty it didn't look all that tough. Still it was a pokemon, and as a newbie trainer, he couldn't exactly pick and choose at what came his way. Glancing over to Brie, who looked equally startled by the pokemon, Duke withdrew his pokedex and pointed it towards the strange creature. Bidoof the plump mouse Pokémon. It lives in groups and nests by the water, chewing up boulders and trees around its nest with its incisors. With nerves of steel, nothing can perturb it. It is more agile and active than it appears. Lowering the pokedex it was quickly returned to its holster, the trainer slowly moving towards the bidoof and crouching down to it's level, though keeping a few feet away from it. "Uhm is something the matter bidoof? I don't think we've done anything to you and I dont see any water around here...or your friends. Are you lost?"

The Bidoof howled in anger at Duke's response. <Something wrong?! Something wrong!? Oh course there is something wrong!>
The beaver like Pokémon huffed out in a fuss. <You trainers assume you can just beat us up and then take us from our homes and families! You act like you own the world and then you use us Pokémon for your own gain?! And for sport?! And you!> Indicating towards Brie. <Going with someone who is going to use you only for his own game?! Let me guess he claims he will be a Pokémon master. What about you? What's your title? What if he gets stronger Pokémon? He'll toss you to the side to get to win. It's all he wants!> Apparently this Bidoof didn't like trainers.... Or captured Pokémon.. Turning his angry gaze back to Duke it growls. <Then on top of all this you think I'll get lost?! In my own home forest?! You are an awful human and should be ashamed of your stupidity. Go back to you parents and cry in bed your shrewd thing.> The Bidoof spat out the last word.

There was an awkward silence in the air after the bidoof's unexpected rant. Duke and Brie had exchanged a glance after the pokemon had finished, both clearly uncertain how to proceed. Duke had never thought of being a pokemon trainer as being a master of slaves, and Brie certainly hadn't seen herself as being any less free. No, the two were definitely confused about what was going on, which was never a good thing.
"Well, " Duke began, licking his lips nervously before continuing, "I'm sorry you're so livid about this whole thing! I know trainers are not perfect but I think you have this all wrong."
"As a trainer my goal is indeed to be a pokemon master. However I want all my pokemon to be my friends. I can't deny that one day I may find a great water pokemon and think 'maybe I should sub out brie for this pokemon' but in the end that will never happen. Do you know why? Brie and I aren't just partners, we're friends."
Climbing back to his feet, Duke backed away from the enraged bidoof, standing beside Brie, who smiled up at him, before returning her gaze to the bidoof, clearly ready to defend her trainer.
"I only just became a trainer so I admit i'm still new to this. However not all trainers are the same! Brie isn't stored away in a pokeball is she? If she wanted to she could run away at any moment and i'd probably never be able to return her to her pokeball. She'd be free to roam the world, and because I didn't release her no other pokeball could catch her. Isn't that the kind of freedom you're dreaming of bidoof? My partner brie has it. Yet she has chosen to stay with me so far because we are alike. We are a team, we're friends. I promised a young girl I'd become pokemon master, and change this world...and I intend to do it. I want to get rid of cruel trainers, just like you."
Nodding to Brie though, the two slowly began to walk around the bidoof, all the while giving it a wide berth as they crossed the path. "I'm sorry you don't like me bidoof so I think we'll leave you alone and be on our way! Its clear you don't want a trainer so I may as well get going."
As they becan to walk, Duke froze, glancing once more at the bidoof. "Not all trainers are alike! Keep that in mind next time you stop someone. After all, I didn't attack you did I? You certainly provided me lots of chances, yet I didn't take any of them...which according to you any trainer would."
Nodding in approval Brie ran up to Duke, the two eager to resume their journey.

Bidoof watched, mouth agape, as the trainer began to exit his vicinity. <W-well.. yo' momma!!!> He bellowed back, just to have the last say. Then, turning forward, he gave a humph and began to continue walking down the beaten down road. Duke wasn't like many trainers, it seemed. He'd probably have more luck with the next one.
::bidoof:: Bidoof has left.
Suddenly, an odd yellow Pokémon appeared in front of Duke. The Abra, as it was called, snickered a little and then teleported all around the trainer's legs. <Play with me! Play with me!> Squeaked the young fox, teleporting up to the trainer's face, then down to the buizel's. Since the Pokémon used telekinesis to speak, its chatter could also be understood by Duke.

It hadn't even been two minutes since the awkward encounter with the bidoof, when the duo were met by yet another Pokémon. It seemed he was a Pokémon magnet already...perhaps he was already famous? Haha! Gym leaders were already quaking in their boots! Smiling to himself, Duke glanced over to Brie, who was stumbling around, trying to keep track of the teleporting Pokémon. It was pretty annoying in all honesty, though an abra...now that was a Pokémon he wanted on his team. Man, how do you hit a Pokémon that's always moving? Duke thought to himself, biting his lip as he tried to figure it out. He could try to just throw a pokeball at it and hope it worked, though that seemed risky. If the ball failed it probably would just run away. No, he had to play its little game, and hopefully weaken it in the process. "Ok abra! Lets play a game called Tag Sonic Boom Style!" he called out, winking at Brie as he emphasized sonic boom. For a moment Brie stared, taking a moment to put two and two together. Nodding once, the buizel swung her tails, firing a sonic boom at the abra, even if it probably was going to just teleport out of the way. Brie used Sonic Boom On Abra!

Abra chose that moment to teleport right in front of Brie - bad luck on her part, seeing as she went right in the path of her attack. The fox took the brunt of the attack, crying out in pain. The fox Pokémon teleported every which way until she came back in front of Duke.
Instead of attacking (or trying to attack, rather), however, she took a bratty stance - hands on her hips and all. <What's the deal? I wanted to play, not fight!> Scolded the Abra, looking up at the trainer with a sour expression on her face.

As he watched the sonic boom strike the abra, Duke couldn't help but feel a little guilty. He had just dealt with that bidoof, telling it not all trainers were the same, yet the instant he found a pokemon he wanted what did he do? Try to trick it, attack it, and capture it.
Lowering his eyes he thought this over, as the abra teleported around, its telepathic shriek of pain filling both his and Brie's minds. It was at that moment that the young trainer decided his path. He wouldn't force this pokemon, or any other to join his party, unless they were putting the lives of others in danger.
"Sorry Abra, I guess me and Brie thought a battle would be fun." he replied, smiling slightly as he noticed the strangely human stance the psychic pokemon had taken, which seemed really rather silly. After a moment his smile became more genuine as he leaned forward, head tilted slightly to one side.
"So! What kind of game is it you want to play? I don't want to accidentally hurt you."He inquired, wondering what exactly there was to do in the middle of no where.

The Abra frowned. <That's right, be sorry!> She looked over Brie and then Duke. <I was GOING to ask to play tag, but now I want to battle!> She screeched, taking a more defensive position. <It's your fault that now you're going to lose.> She added.
Abra looked over them both one more time before waiting for a response. If they said no, they were just too annoying. She wasn't sure if she would just teleport away. She couldn't blame herself for that; she was gettign bored. That's all.

Wait, what? One minute the abra wanted to play, then it was offended he'd attacked it, and now it wanted to actually battle? Oh dear and just after he'd decided to do things its way. Facepalming Duke regarded the abra with suspicion. It was either up to something or was, what was the word,bipolar.
"I hope you realise abra that if I win i'll want to capture you! After all a game's no fun without a little risk right? Quick Attack."
<Sorry!> Brie called out, even as she leapt forward in a quick attack. Though she thought the abra seemed kind of fun, but if they were going to win the fight it made sense to try to quickly hit the abra before it could teleport away.

As soon as the Buizel came charging forward with its Quick Attack, the Abra had not expected such speediness and was easily hit in the chest. It was the first official turn, and he already had to deal with the damage from a Sonicboom and a Quick Attack. How lovely. He scoffed as if to mock the Buizel as he levitated into a yoga position, eying the Buizel apprehensively. Next time he would be ready, except for the little fact that he lacked any offensive moves.
<You...you know, maybe we should talk this out.> The Abra announced, using Teleport to direct his entire body over the Buizel's head. If this worked, then it would cause some damage to the Buizel. Also, he was a little curious about the ring around the Buizel's neck. What would it feel like if he landed right on it?

As the abra appeared over brie, Duke scrambled for a command. Water sport? No, that didn't have the water pressure...quick attack? No how about -- his thoughts were cut short as the abra fell atop his buizel, the two falling towards the ground. An unexpected thing happened in the process however, Brie bounced.For a second Duke was sure he was seeing things, as the yellow ring around Brie's neck had randomly grown several sizes. Without hesitation Duke withdrew his pokedex. Buizel the Sea Weasel Pokemon It has a floatation sac that is like an inflatable collar. It floats on water with its head out. It swims by rotating its two tails like a screw. When it dives, its flotation sac collapses. Oh so that's whats going on... he thought, watching Brie clamor back to her feet, her floatation sac collapsing as she did so. "Brie, Double Slap!" ::buizel:: Buizel used Double Slap on Abra!

Ok, the Abra was already pretty weak to physical moves in the first place. Combine that with being at a low level, and an automatic hit of 20 HP, it was pretty amazing to even be lasting that long. Higher level or not, the Abra felt like it was outclassed fighting wise in general. What a shame, it really wanted to be able to last longer than this too. As the Buizel's two tails smacked against his face three times in a row, he instantly went down to his feet and hands.
The poor critter was gasping for breath by the time the beat down had finished, and with weary eyes he looked up at his opponents pitifully. Obviously the Abra looked like he wanted to say something, but his tongue was quite stuck. Instead, he used telepathy.
'I...I admit my defeat.'

"Well...that went better than I thought it would..." he murmured to himself, moving over to the abra and kneeling beside it pokeball in one hand, a potion in the other. "I'm sorry you got beat on like that...you should have told me you didn't have any real attacks silly. Hmm, whether this works or not I promise to heal you." he said softly, lightly tapping the pokeball against the abra's head.
In the background Brie was spinning around happily, overjoyed by the fact she'd won her first battle, without so much as a scratch.

Abra winced as the pokeball came in contact with her forehead. The little fox's expression turned from pain to bewilderment as the sphere's red insides took her inside. Filled, the sphere descended to the floor and rocked gently and quietly. The little psychic pokemon didn't see anything bad about going with the trainer, and so allowed the pokeball to fully capture her. Nothing was heard from the sphere except a 'ping' signalling a successful catch.

"It might not have been the most exciting battle but we did it Brie! We won our first battle and caught our first pokemon!" Smiling to himself, he looked down at the pokeball in his hand lightly tossing it and sending out his newly acquired pokemon.
"Welcome to the team Abby!" he said with a grin, quickly spraying the potion in hand on the Abra, before climbing once more to his feet.
<Next time we play, lets play something a little less painful, ok?>
"Uh yeah...sorry about that."
<Welcome to the team Abby!>
The two pokemon seemed to hit it off, and Duke allowed them both to socialize, even as they continued down the trail. Watching the two laugh and chase one another around made Duke feel good inside. His team was slowly forming up, and he was determined to make them a close knit family.

Scuttling out from the safety of the tree branches, a tiny Caterpie approached the very end of the branch to get a good look at the scenic view. It was so nice to wake up every morning and see such fabulous skies! He sighed in contentment as he tried to get to the thinnest, flimsiest part of the branch. It really was so pretty, that he couldn't help himself from getting the best view possible. Suddenly, the branch bent down so low that he slipped right off of it!
<EEEK!> He cried, curling up into a ball in mid-air to try and spare his head from the damage. Why was he so afraid? It wasn't that he had a fear of heights, actually, it was more of a fear of falling. Here he was, ready to meet the ground! In front of a trainer, none-the-less.
::Caterpie:: Yikes! Save the Caterpie?

Duke was oblivious to the small caterpie as it crawled from the bush, too lost in his own thoughts to notice such a thing. All he could see was the path ahead of him, and even then it was uncertain as to whether or not he even was really seeing the path at all. Unfortunately for the little caterpie however, Abby had spotted the round green thing falling towards the ground. In a flash she was gone, leaving brie rather confused as to where the psi pokemon had gone. Within moments though it reappeared the curled up caterpie in one hand. <Lets play pass the bug!> abby mentally exclaimed, forgetting that the bug could hear her telepathic thoughts too. She really didn't like bug pokemon at all. Small gross little things, and when they grew up they were pretty dangerous for her kind too! Oh not the little thing was lucky she couldn't kill it herself! "Uh... put the bug down?" duke said distractedly, taking out his pokedex and pointing it at the bug pokemon. Caterpie the worm pokemon. Its voracious appetite compels it to devour leaves bigger than itself without hesitation. When threatened it releases a terribly strong odor from its antennae.
"I see I see..." the trainer murmered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully as he considered the pokemon. He wasn't really sure how useful a bug pokemon would be, but so far abra wasn't much help to the team. Hmmm... Meanwhile Abby teleported high into the air, dropping the bug and quickly teleporting back into place, before Duke could notice. Brie however, who had been watching the poor bug hover above the abra's hands the entire time, narrowed her eyes, pointing a paw accusingly at Abby. <Where'd you put it!><Our trainer said to drop it silly, so I did!>Narrowing her eyes, Brie slowly glanced around, looking for the unfortunate bug. She didn't see it anywhere around the path...huh? What was that shadow? Glancing up, the buizel let out a gasp of shock, realising it was the caterpie. Running in circles, trying to position herself beneath the bug, Brie hoped she'd be able to save the pokemon, while Abby was doubled over in laughter. The bug pokemon's angle of descent abruptly changed, smashing it into Brie's head. As she fell to the ground unconscious, the caterpie now on her stomach just moments before Duke looked up. The scene before him was just too bizarre, his starter somehow knocked out and abby was laughing hysterically. Had the small bug type beaten Brie? Kneeling down Duke peered closely at the bug pokemon, head slowly tilting to the side. "Wow I guess what they say is true...size really doesn't matter."

The little sigh of relief that rose to Caterpie's throat at the rescue from his fall was soon changed into a gulp of fear. He was falling again! What was going on! This wasn't right!
As he connected with something and then landed with a soft thud and a bounce on the Buizel's stomach, he peeked out from his ball. A drop of sweat beaded his forehead as the realization that HE had knocked this poor Buizel out by landing on the poor thing hit him. Oh no! What would the Buizel's trainer say?
Shaking as the Trainer approached, half expecting the human to kick him off the Buizel's prone form, Caterpie started to shrink back into his protective ball. The Abra seemed to be finding all this amusing. Well, it would. IT had caused this disaster to take place.
<I- I- ...> The Caterpie stuttered. The Trainer seemed to be nice enough and it hadn't reprimanded him for this... accident, yet. So he took a calming breath. <I'm ever so sorry... All I wanted was to take a peek at the view... and then I fell... and -> he pointed an accusing tail at the Abra. <That thing dropped me!>
