"Strings shoot a Stringshot at the needles and ekans mouth!" Duke called out, waving one hand as he did so. His pokemon had become stronger sure, but it was still horribly slow and against a pokemon like this it was in trouble. All he could really do now was try to reduce damage taken, and hope for another chance to escape. Though Strings put up a valiant effort, his stringshot could only catch so many of the venomous needles before they hit home. Wincing in pain, the small pokemon shuddered, feeling the poison of the attack eventually slipping through his hardened skin. [green]<Hey I'm the Hero here, I'm supposed to win!>[/green] Strings called out, thrashing back in forth in the ekans coils, trying to somehow tackle the ekans, even if technically he could...move. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* [beige]Croa~ Croa~...[/beige] watching the Caterpie run Son rose his fist, focusing his strength into it. As he did so it began to glow a bright silver. A trainer probably could have recognised the move coming next, though Son was confident this week but was even paying attention. In a flash the toxic mouth pokemon rushed forwards, arm thrusting forward with the intent of delivering a bullet punch to the back of the caterpie's large head. He wasn't going to let this thing run away! It was bad for going near his Daddy, and bad things needed to be punished. ::metapod:: Strings used Stringshot! Strings attempted to Tackle Ekans!
::croagunk:: Son used Bullet Punch on Caterpie!

The stringshot startled Ekans, and though she closed her mouth to avoid it being plastered with sticky string, she was forced to uncoil herself from her opponent, slithering a slight ways away and hissing defiantly. <How dare you?> she demanded, then noticed that the lunch she'd been trying so hard to catch was wriggling away, pursued by an obviously determined Croagunk.
Offended by this unsuspected turn of events, she turned her attention to the poison Pokemon. <Hey!> she called after him in a hissing snarl. <That's my lunch you're making after! I caught it, not you, you stupid->
But she never got to finish that sentence, for the Tackle from her other opponent hit her hard, dealing critical damage. <How... dare...> she started to say again, but collapsed before she could finish. Well. It looked like she wouldn't be having her lunch any time soon, huh?
::ekans:: Ekans has fainted! Strings gains a level! Capture, or move on?
Meanwhile, Caterpie managed to dodge the Croagunk's punch and slither into a tight tangle of bushes, where only Pokemon of his size and stature would be able to get through without being stuck with dozens of sharp thorns. Panting heavily, he curled into a tight ball of fear and hoped the toad Pokemon would just leave him alone.
::caterpie:: Caterpie is hiding. Interfere?

Both Duke and Strings stared as somehow, impossibly, the ekans staggered back, before collapsing to the ground, completely unconscious.Laughing the two raced towards one another, with Duke scooping up his metapod in a big hug and spinning around, smiling triumphantly. It was then that he noticed the wound on Strings side, and the purple ooze leaking from it.
"You've been poisoned!"
[green]<Nothing bad...help Caterpie...>[/green] the cocoon pokemon managed, struggling from Dukes grip and staggering forward, delivering a strong tackle attack directly into the back of the small croagunk.
Stumbling back, the baby pokemon whirled about firing a bullet punch at the metapod. The blow was a solid hit, but should have done almost no damage, were it not for the poison coursing through his veins. Weakened, his defense wavering, the blow struck home. Staggering back, the metapod slowly regained its composure, just long enough to deliver one final tackle to the weakened croagunk, which promptly fainted.
[green]<Never fear your hero is here~>[/green] Strings managed, glancing towards the Caterpies hiding place before falling over, clearly exhausted.
Returning both his pokemon, Duke turned back to the ekans, knowing it was probably going to wake up soon. He had a choice...catch the caterpie and keep it safe, or catch the ekans and take the threat out of the ecosystem.
Nodding once Duke withdrew his last spare pokeball and tossed it at the Ekans.

::caterpie:: ::ekans:: Pokemon encounter ! Caterpie shrank back at the sound of the Metapod's voice, but it sounded very familiar - it was like the call of his older brothers and sisters. Curiosity gaining the better of him, the insect ventured cautiously out of the bushes it was taking refuge in. Seeing the Metapod, senseless on the ground, struck the little caterpillar's heart, and he overcame his fears to inch his way over to the fallen friend. <You're hurt.> Murmured the worm, who then laid down tiredly near him.
At the same time, the ball was launched toward the fallen Ekans, completely swallowing the violet beast in a flare of red. As soon as it was filled, it fell, rocking soundlessly on the beaten dirt as the captured snake fought with the cold machine. Although it was a hard battle between she and the pokeball, eventually her energy was lost; letting go of her senses, she decided to simply rest, emanating disappointment. The sphere came to a stop and let out a ping.
You caught an Ekans!

Retrieving the pokeball, Duke placed his new pokemon on his belt. He didn't really need to poison types, which just meant he had a tough decision on his hand. Both poison types had shown themselves to be rather brutal to the poor caterpie...so who knows what he'd do.
Returning Strings to his pokeball, Duke moved over to the injured caterpie, spraying it with a potion as he did so. The gentle mist sprayed down on the little bug type, restoring some of its health that it had lost earlier.
Sorry about how my pokemon behaved! he began as he put away the spent potion bottle. "Well goodbye little caterpie! Stay safe and try to find someone good to protect you!" he called out, waving cheerfully to the little pokemon, before turning and running down the trail.
He needed to not only restock, but give his pokemon a good rest. Next Stop: Electric City!
