ooc;; Last thread was archived ages ago. It was winter in that one.
It was terrifying. He swore when he slept, the ground had been blanketed in snow. Soren looked around him. There was no snow to be seen, and it was actually rather warm outside. He closed his eyes and calmed himself down a bit, telling him that everything was okay, and the snow had just... melted overnight. His hand went to the pouch he carried around, his fingers feeling for the items that he remembered carrying before he fell asleep. He caressed the metal surfaces, counting them as he did, and then searched for his more personal items.
Soren stood up and pat his clothes down a bit while still keeping an eye around him, trying to grasp the situation. The air felt different, he noticed. The smell was sweeter and it had a different flow to it. A hand went to his forehead where the red mark was branded onto his skin. Had he hoped the mark would have left his person as he slept? The skin was mangled to the touch, but in a way, it comforted him. He hadn't changed in his sleep, but somehow the world around him has seen a couple of seasons, if not more, pass.
He reached for his pouch once again, the weight assuring him that his flying friends were still with him and they would figure out this odd change with him. Now, he just had to find the way back to the main road. Trees, lush green, leaves rustling in the summer breeze, extended beyond his vision all around him and he did not want to get lost.

A Seedot snuck out from behind a tree and hobbled over to Soren, a pleading look in her eyes. She'd been separated from her mother a few hours ago when they were enjoying a morning walk, but she'd blanked out at one point and woke up somewhere else. She hoped this strange two-legged creature would answer her questions.
<Do you know where my mommy is?> Asked the little Seedot as she gazed with innocent eyes at the tall man. <Pretty please help me find her? I'm scared..> She said fearfully, gazing down and scooting dust around with her little brown foot.

Soren looked at the little pokemon, staring at it for a few seconds. He wasn't too sure how to react to the seedot. Should be help it? But then someone might see him. the words 'weak' echoed in his head and a grimace appeared on his face for a split second before it reverted back to the neutral expression he takes cover in. He did not want that thing's voice in his mind.
He took out his pokedex. Information is a vital asset and could easily be the difference between a beautiful victory and a humiliating defeat. The little red electronic book (he had to get one of that for other aspects of life) presented him with some basic information with that electronic voice of his.
"Well, Seedot," he said, thinking carefully about his words, adding a "miss" as a polite afterthought. It was rather awkward talking to a little acorn, so he crouched down a bit -- after making sure there was no one around -- to lessen the height difference. "Where did you last remember seeing your mother?"

The Seedot watched the strange human pull out a shiny red thing that talked when he aimed it at her. She thought it was a camera and, giggling, tried to pose a few times, but stopped immediately when he put the device away again.
He asked where she saw her mother last. To be honest, she could remember where she'd last seen her mom, but what good was that in a forest? So she simply shook her head no at his question. <But mister, can I come with you? In case you find my mommy by ack-si-dent?> She asked, bowing in a pleading gesture towards Soren.

Soren thought about it for a bit. The Seedot wanted to... come with him? Why would a grass pokemon want to follow him? The pokemon monster in him made his skin tingle, as if millions of needles were trying to push through his skin. He looked a bit to his right, away from the pokemon until the feeling stopped. A hand went to caress his pouch. In tune with the wind and the birds, the seedot was a liability. She was a snack.
He turned back to the pokemon.
"I... it would be best if I didn't." He was about to stand up and walk away to appease the beast in him that made his skin prick and the wind gather around him when his human side fought back, telling him not to give into his instincts. "But if you're sure, I guess you can tag along. Just for a bit."
He didn't know whether or not he regretted those words. His red eyes looked away as he stood up again.
"You might not want to stay too close," he added. "Sometimes I get... flocked."

<Flocked? What you mean, mister?> Instead of staying away, as Soren had suggested, the little Seedot moved to snuggle closer to his leg, trying to leech off his warm body. Yes, it was warm outside. But to a plant, you can almost never be too warm. <C'mon mister. Maybe we can find her tracks in the dirt!> She said, nudging at the mans leg. <C'mon c'mon c'mon!>

The longer the seedot clung to him, the more he knew this was a bad idea. He looked at the Seedot and wondered what he wanted to do. What was his purpose on this road, anyways? It's been years since he last woke, and he didn't know if his old goals were still valid. He had wanted to become his own person, to fly away from his past, but now, he with the needles pricking beneath his skin again, he didn't know if it would be possible anymore. But... Soren opened his diaryjournal. There weren't a lot of entries in it, but it reminded him of the fresh start he had craved.
Well, at the very least, he was going to get to the first town, and maybe help this seedot along the way. Which reminded him of the little acorn next to his leg.
"Stay further away," he told her again. "I might kick you if you are this close."
He looked around for a bit. There wasn't much to see. A bit of fallen leaves on the ground, covering the dirt a little bit, but still mostly tree roots.
"Since you're lower down, why don't you see if you can find your mother's tracks, while I'll look ahead in case I see something," he told the pokemon. "Your mother is probably looking for you, so head back to where you were when you lost her."
The sooner he found the mother seedot, the sooner he could be on his way. Without the grass pokemon. Ike was always the better one when dealing with others. But he was miles away, and Soren would probably never see his friend again, so he was on his own.

At his warning, the Seedot scrambled backwards a little bit and walked farther away from him. He told her to try to see her mom's tracks, and she nodded. <Okay, mister,> She replied.
They trekked for quite a while before the little Seedot finally began to jump up and down excitedly. <Hey! Hey! I see my mommy's footprints here!> She said with enthusiasm. <They lead into the forest! She was running around, looking for me, I can tell!> She smiled up at Soren and said, <Thank you for your help, sir.> Then she ran into the forest where she saw the tracks leading.
There was silence afterwards. Will you follow her in or Move on?

He watched the little pokemon walk away, not quite following her but still watching. Her coloring and size made it hard to track her as she moved through the forest, but he adjusted his position a little bit to keep an eye on her as she moved.
Well, that's that, he guessed. The seedot will find her mother and all would be fine. He placed a hand on his arm, feeling the goosebumps recede as the grass pokemon disappeared from his sight. He'd have to find something else to eat, he guessed. Hopefully something less pokemon.
When she was out of site, Soren finally turned to move on, toward his own destination. Which reminded him of the fact he had no clue where to go. A bit annoyed, but never showing it on his face, he walked away a bit and closed his eyes to feel the wind. The slight nuances in smell and feel engulfed his senses. The city had a different taste, a more metallic and polluted taste. Orienting himself, he bushwhacked through the forest, silently hoping to encounter the trail.

Not too long after the Seedot followed her mother's trail, however, there was a high-pitched scream that caused a flock of birds to fly out of the trees, away from the noise. <MISTER! HELP ME!!!> Cried the voice, which was followed by loud battle noises in the direction she'd ran in.

Of course Soren heard it. Though the seedot's voice wasn't loud enough to read his ears, the birds told him everything. Between the pidgey and the starly, he knew that the seedot that he had just helped guided met was in trouble. He glanced back, catching the glimpse of a couple of bird pokemon flying overhead, and thought about his possible actions for a moment.
His ultimate goal was to get to the first town and fight the gym leader -- or maybe the coordinator -- and the seedot was hindering him. Pokemon battled each other and ate each other on a daily basis. It was how the world worked. This was not his problem anymore. He had to get to town.
He turned his back to the seedot -- though really the pokemon was too small and too far away to see him at this point -- and pretended he didn't hear anything. Which was true, really.
He walked just a bit faster.

The cries grew fainter and fainter, eventually ending in silence followed by a harsh cracking that annoyed some more birds that had been roosting in the trees. The Seedot had been finished off, helpless and far from its home and its mother. But such was life, though harsh.
A trainer was watching Soren as he quickly passed by, seeming to ignore the loud noises that were behind him. The young bug catcher somehow knew that the man was strong.
"Hey! You there!" Yelled Evan as he crashed out from the bushes. "I challenge you to a battle! Will you fight me?" He had a scratch on his leg that he attained from running through the bush, but his leg was full of other scars anyway. He hoisted the net he was holding in his left hand, which was old and worn - its constant use showing in its appearance.
Evan, a Route Trainer, challenges you.

Soren quickly analyzed the boy in front of him. A human, rather young, and rather scruffy. He knew that his battle skills weren't the best -- he had lost his last battle against the trainer he met... before he sleep. So quite a while ago. And though he knew his Pokémon were still all healthy, he didn't know how well they were prepared for battle. But he wasn't going to back down from a challenge. The boy nodded and reached into his pouch, fishing for a pokeball. Though they all looked the same from the outside, the Pokémon inside their capsules gave out a different air, allowing him to identify its occupant. Most of his Pokémon were gifts. Now it was time to see if those giveaway Pokémon were any good in battle. He hoped so, at least. He had gotten quite attached to them. Choosing his fighter, he expanded the pokeball and threw it in the air, allowing it to open and free the little natu. "Naaaatu?" it cried out. Oriole was so tiny, thought Soren. Even that seedot was a lot bigger than her. But the little psychic bird Pokémon just looked up at him, and then at the trainer, understanding what was asked of her. " Naaatu!" Soren then looked at the trainer, waiting for his response.

"Excellent!" The trainer nodded. "My name's Evan. I train bug types and here in Route 1, there are tons that are just waiting to be trained by me!" He clutched his own pokeball as Soren sent out his Natu. Evan smiled. Sure, it was a bird pokemon, but his were a higher level. "Kid, come on out!" He called thowing his own pokeball in the air.
Out popped a Butterfree. It flapped it's wings a few times before hovering in front of Oriole. "This is Kid, my Butterfree. So, shall we make this a 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 battle? Your choice, since I challenged you and all. At least I'm fair."
Evan seemed to have a bit of an ego problem...

Soren looked at the butterfly pokemon, pulling out his pokedex for information about it. The bug Pokémon actually made the beast in him tingle. His father's clan was a ruthless one that acted like wild, untamed monsters, and his blood was also reacting to what any bird Pokémon would see as food. "Two on two," he said. He did not have luck last time when there was only one pawn to control, so maybe he would have more luck with another Pokémon by his side. The butterfree was rather high-leveled, though. He thought about sending one of his stronger ones, but decided against it. Battle was about strategy, and strength took a secondary role in his battle logs. Besides, he had a type advantage, didn't he? Fishing through his pouch, he let out another Pokémon. Elsu would be perfect. The farfetch'd was an excellent fighter and would compliment nicely with Oriole's slightly more haughty nature.

Evan grinned again and tossed out another pokeball. The emerging pokemon was yellow and black striped with drills for hands. A Beedrill. "Drill and Kid are my dream team. They can't be beaten!" Evan sure seemed confident, though overconfidence can easily effect a battle.

Soren more or less ignored the other trainer as he scanned the pokedex, his eyes darting from side to side. Finally snapping it close, he examined his surroundings carefully. There were many trees around him and the terrain was uneven, with bits of gravel in the tall grass that blanketed the ground. The wind picked up just a little bit, making his heavy cape flutter a bit. "Oriole, Up and Leer. Elsu, Cover and Peck," he said. His orders were short and precise. He raised an arm towards his pokemon and guided the wind, positioning them in place. Oriole flew high above the ground and used leer on the two bug pokemon before her while Elsu followed close to protect the smaller bird before diving in, aiming at the butterfree. His leek was clutched tightly between his claws, the weight allowing him to drop faster from his high position. ::natu:: ::Farfetch'd:: Oriole // Elsu Leer // Peck

The fierce stare that the Natu aimed at them caused them to drop their guard slightly, lowering their defenses. Soon the Farfetch'd, diving towards Butterfree, increased in size with his beak outstretched towards her. She squealed and attempted to dodge the attack, and nearly did, but her back legs were cut through by the bird's sharp beak.
Gritting his teeth, the bug catcher raised his pointer finger. "Kid, use Confusion on Farfetch'd while he's still low to the ground! Drill, support her by Stringshotting the bird before he gets away!" He ordered.
The two insects complied, knowing that their owner was a cunning trainer. Beedrill quickly shot a glob of gooey web-like matter at Elsu, while Butterfree flit around the bird, aiming harsh telekinetic waves at the bird.
::beedrill:: Drill used Stringshot!
::butterfree:: Kid used Confusion!

"Closer, Poison Jab," said Soren as he watched the two flying bug Pokémon attack Elsu. The Farfetch'd would be able to handle the attacks. He was sturdy enough to take them head on. " Oriole." He didn't even have to say anything. His Pokémon had flown into the leaves as soon as her previous attack was down, using the foliage to camouflage herself a bit. She then dropped down toward the Beedrill, going for her own peck while her opponent was busy attacking Elsu. The string shot had hit Elsu right in his chest, making him stagger a bit. As he was trying to recover from the hit that hindered his flight quite a bit, he felt the confusion sweep through his body, making it throb in pain. Still, his trainer's voice reached him and he waited until the Butterfree was closest to him before transferring his stick from his claws to his wing before jabbing the poison tip toward her. Oriole // Elsu Peck // Poison Jab

Butterfree had it's eyes on the body of Elsu, not the nasty Leek it was holding. How was it supposed to know that the leek was a weapon of Farfetche'd. Being a bug type, poison wasn't extremely effective. But it was still an advanced move. The force of a stick being jabbed into his stomach hurt more than the fact that it was poison. Butterfree squealed as she was pushed to the ground.
"Kid, String Shot again. Don't let that Farfetche'd get away with his moves!" Evan said.
Meanwhile, Drill wasn't doing too much fighting. The Natu seemed to have vanished and with it, Beadrill's secondary target. While Butterfree had mainly engaged the Farfetche'd, it was his job to support her and keep the other pokemon busy in the meantime. He hadn't expected the small green bird to come jumping out of the foilage. The enlarged beak drove into his side, barely missing his wing. He shot an untentional Poison Sting, but neglected to aim.

::beedrill:: Beedrill used Poison Sting
