a journey of a thousand miles . . .Well, that was that. Jazlyn had gone to the Ranger Station, and gotten her first Pokémon. It was not what she had expected, but she was pleased nonetheless. The little Hoppip, whom she had named Ivy, was now perched atop Jazlyn's head, her leaves blowing in the breeze as her trainer walked briskly along the first route. "What kind of Pokémon are we going to see, I wonder?" Jazlyn asked, more to herself than to her new Pokémon. Brown eyes zipped back and forth over the scenery around the two, looking for any signs of movement in the grass.
Jazlyn, of course, would be happy to see just about any kind of Pokémon. She knew very little about the many different species that inhabited the Cheyenne region, or even about many of the types that lived back in Kanto. She had tried to use her Pokedex to get information on the red and green grass/flying type that she had received from the creepy ranger back at the station, but it seemed to be malfunctioning. Perhaps this was because of the power outage she had heard about when she arrived in the region. Thus, she wasn't sure what kinds of attacks Ivy would learn or when she would evolve. This would most certainly be quite the adventure. team: ♀ lv 5, synthesis/splash/double-edge . . . begins with a single step. [/font]

The cold and snow made poor Budew depressed, and she could feel the chill creeping nearer by each passing day. She gave a small shiver and pulled her small leaves in tighter to keep warm, deciding to go out onto the path and see if it had any more sun. She wasn't disappointed; it was certainly warming than the chill of the shady underbrushed, but it didn't make as much of a difference as she hoped. The little plant just hoped that it wouldn't snow.
She gave a slight squeak of surprise upon noticing a trainer and her Pokemon, but didn't scuttle back from whence she came. Curiously, as she noticed a Pokemon familiar to this route, she edged closer, and her suspicions were confirmed. There was a Hoppip on that girl's head! Giggling at just how amusing this was, she moved into full view and waved one of her little feet in an odd sort of greeting.
<Hello!> the plant squeaked.

Little Ivy was the first to notice the movement in the foliage nearby, and waved a stubby hand at the fellow grass-type. Upon noticing what her Pokemon had seen, Jazlyn smiled and cautiously began to approach the Budew. This was interesting; definitely a type of Pokemon she had never seen in Kanto. Too bad she couldn't find out much about it with her malfunctioning Pokedex.
"Hello there," Jazlyn said, squatting on the ground to look closer at the unfamiliar wild Pokemon. Ivy leaped from her new trainer's head and got closer to the Budew than the girl had. The Hoppip was rather shy, but seeing another grass-type made her feel more confident. <Hi!> said Ivy, smiling. <Do you live around here?> ooc: ah, right, duh. forgot about that XD thanks for the reminder, I have edited the first post.

OOC: Can you please link your PC into your signature? <3 The Hoppip fascinated Budew, who, in her youth and innocence, wanted to be like the Hoppip perched on the Trainer's shoulder, wanting to be carried away by the wind to pastures now every now and again. >Yes,< squeaked Budew in response to the Hoppip's question, blinking adorably as she looked both the Hoppip and the Trainer over. >But this is my first... um.... I think my Mommy called it Winter." Budew put her tiny hand on her chin, deep in thought as she recalled the name of this season that brought a blanket of freezing ice and white snow to La Premiere Route. She then asked the Hoppip the question she had been dying to ask since she had first seen her. >Is it true that you can float away on the wind like a plastic bag?< Before she could even get an answer, she gave an involuntary shiver. It seemed the cold wass getting to this tiny Pokemon. ::budew:

The Budew seemed young, innocent, and curious. Jazlyn could remember a time when she was like that too. As she watched, the two grass Pokemon conversed between themselves like old friends. It was rather cute.
<Yeah, Winter,> replied Ivy. <Winter makes things look pretty sometimes, but it gets really cold.> The little Hoppip was a bit older than the newly-met Budew, and had surely experienced the multitude of seasons before, even if it was just at the Ranger Station.
She was then asked if she could float on the wind like a plastic bag. Ivy giggled. <Well, I suppose if there was enough wind, then yes.> Jazlyn smiled, looking at the two Pokemon having friendly conversation. That was one of the reasons why she had wanted to become a Pokemon trainer--friendship. She knew that trainers had deep bonds with their Pokemon, and wanted to experience that. ooc: it was there but the font was kinda small, so I've made it more visible. also, can humans and Pokemon understand each other here? I've tried to write so it could go either way but I would like to know for future reference...

<That's really cool! I can make it rain a little!> She giggled, after listening to the Hoppip's explanation of Winter, of course. It was always so interesting hearing what other Pokémon said about it, but it was usually the same thing. Cold. White. Pretty. And windy. It sounded like a strange wonderland, actually.
<So you guys look like best friends! That must be cool. I don't have lots of friends. Mommy doesn't let me out a lot.> The Budew explained, more than happy to share information about her personal life. She might've been knew to the 'social rules' thing, but she was way too excited to be shy now. She eagerly walked right next to Jazlyn, happy to be near her.
<You're really big, miss.> She exclaimed, meaning tall. It could've been interpreted as 'fat', if one were so sensitive to such things. Then again, it was a child that was saying it.
ooc: It's entirely up to you. Some Pokemorphs here don't even understand their Pokémon. Some trainers hear them after long periods of time. Some can only understand Psychic types. Do what makes the most sense to you.

The Budew said something about being able to make rain. Jazlyn could only assume that the little Pokemon meant the move Rain Dance. That was rather odd, for a grass-type to create rain as opposed to life-giving sun.
But that wasn't the oddest thing, she suddenly realized. Jazlyn had understood what that little wild Pokemon had said! And she'd heard Ivy too! It hadn't occurred to her until now just how strange that was. Having seen very few Pokemon in her life, she had never known much about the way they communicated, but the idea that humans and Pokemon could understand each other never really occurred to her. Either way, it was still pretty cool.
Jazlyn couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the Budew, who spoke about not getting to go out much. In a way though, she could relate. Ivy piped up again. <We just met,> the Hoppip replied. <But I hope we can be best friends!> Ivy looked at Jazlyn with a smile which her trainer returned.
"Yes, I hope to make lots of friends here," Jazlyn said. She smiled again that the Budew's comment about her size. Then again, many things probably seemed big to the little grass-type. "There's all sorts of things out there, big and small," she replied. "I'm going to try and see as many of them as I can!"

<You sound like you get to have a lot of fun. I get scared a lot though. Do you ever worry being by yourselves?> The Budew asked, appearing a little frightened herself. She was a comfortable distance away from home, practically in her back yard, but she wasn't allowed to talk to strangers. These ones seemed so nice though, and she almost wanted to take them home with her.
<I hope we can be bestest best friends too. I think you're really cool!> She exclaimed, a bit excited to have met such interesting people. It wasn't every day that trainers walked by and talked with her. Why, this was the first time they did with her. And the girl could understand her, which was awesome!
<That's so cool. Amazing. I wish I was as brave as you.> She admitted, tilting her head adorably to the side. She almost looked a little crestfallen as well, but that was something that could be easily fixed, right?

Jazlyn smiled at the Budew's curiosity and fascination with the idea of going off to see the world, but at the same time she felt rather sorry for the grass-type. The Budew was rather timid. So was Ivy, as far as Jazlyn could tell. But once the two of them were put together, they seemed much more talkative and open. "I guess it is a little scary," Jazlyn mused. "But we have each other, so hopefully we'll be okay."
<I'm sure you'll grow up to be very brave and strong someday!> Ivy said, grinning. <You just have to try hard and face your fears!> The Hoppip spoke as if she was trying to give advice to herself as well as the Budew.
Jazlyn spoke up again. "I would love to take you with us on our journey, but I'm afraid your mommy wouldn't like that." Not to mention the fact that the Budew was still young and might have trouble battling and such.

<Oh, well that sounds smart. I sure hope I don't have to be scared of anything when I grow up.> The Budew nodded towards the Hoppip, glad that he was able to inspire her in such a way. Why, such kindness had to be rewarded. She could sense the air changing, as if they were going to leave soon. So she had to hurry and give them something nice, so they wouldn't be in a lot of trouble on their journy.
<Hey! Wait right here! I want to give you something before you go.> She giggled, raising a small vine to her mouth, as if to shush them before she headed back towards her den. It was a short distance, but what she didn't realize was that something was lurking behind her the entire time. When she emerged back out, she was cheerfully holding an Oran Berry in her vines.
So tightly wrapped it was, that it would've been quite a struggle to remove it from her. She giggled as she bounded back to her new friends, holding out the ripe Oran Berry as a gift. She didn't really need to eat other plants anyways, especially when Water and Sun was so healthy!

Before either Jazlyn or Ivy could say anything, the little Budew had run off somewhere, promising to bring them something. "How sweet," Jazlyn said to Ivy as they waited for the grass-type to return from wherever she had gone to. It wasn't long until she reappeared, holding an Oran Berry.
"Aww, why thank you!" Jazlyn said, reaching out to take the gift and smiling. She really did wish that she could bring the youngster along, but at her age she knew it was for the best that the Budew stay with her family.
Ivy, however, happened to look somewhere else, and noticed a strange shadow lurking. <Wait, what's that?> she cried, pointing a stubby arm at the foliage.

As the Budew left for home, drinking in the rays of the weak winter sun, a Zigzagoon cowered in the bush, disappointed at having been noticed. He was a rather fearful little raccoon, and wasn't sure how to react to human contact. But now that he'd been discovered, there was no backing away. Zigzagoon tentatively poked his nose out of the bush and looked up at the Trainer and her Hoppip with fearful chocolate brown eyes. >U-um... hi,< he squeaked. ::zigzagoon::

ooc: DERP, hope it's allowed for me to come gravedig this thread like this. sorry that I was gone for so long.Jazlyn peered into the bushes to find the source of the voice that had suddenly come out of seemingly nowhere. Ivy was more observant than her trainer, apparently; Jazyln hadn't even seen the Zigzagoon at first. Once she did, though, she smiled at the little raccoon. It was kind of cute. It looked a little shy, though.
"Hi there," she said, taking a couple steps closer to the wild Pokemon and kneeling down to get closer to its eye level. "What are you doing hiding here?" Ivy hopped onto her trainer's back and climbed up to rest atop her head, also smiling. <You must not have ever seen a human before, is that right?> the Hoppip asked. Of course, Ivy's own first experience with a human had been a rather strange one, but she wanted the Zigzagoon to at least know that not all people were bad.

The Zigzagoon yelped in surprise and almost jumped back in the bushes. He then poked his head out at the Hoppip and nervously said, <Uh, n-no I n-never h-have before.> he slowly came out of the bushes and looked at both Trainer and Pokemon. He placed his paws over his head. <P-please don't eat me.>

Jaz was a little surprised when the Zigzagoon acted as if the girl might eat him. She hadn't had a lot of social experience but she had never known a human who was so desperate that they would just eat a random Pokemon. "Aww, we won't eat you," she said, again offering a friendly smile. "Pokemon are my friends." At her trainer's words, Ivy nodded, leaning over from Jazlyn's head to look closer at the raccoon. <Yeah, some humans are weird, but not my trainer! We're going on a journey to become stronger and be the best!> the Hoppip said proudly. "Well, yeah, I guess," replied Jazlyn. "I just wanted to get out of my old life and have some fun. My name's Jazlyn, by the way." She decided that introducing herself to the little Pokemon might make her seem more friendly. She wasn't sure why she was just wandering around the route having friendly conversations with Pokemon, but it was better than being stuck back home.

The Zigzagoon walked all the way out of the bush and looked at the Pokemon and the trainer. He felt a bit more at ease now. Who knew humans could be this nice and caring. <So you are not gonna eat me?>He was not sure that they were serious with all their talking. Who knew, maybe they were tricking him out to eat him then? Either way he did feel a positive and genuine kind feeling from them so he did not feel as scared as earlier. Suddenly his stomach started to rumble a bit. He had not eaten for a wile and he was not directly looking all too well for food so he looked up in a bit with a distressed look. <Sorry, a bit hungry here..> ::Zigzagoon::

Jazlyn was glad that the little Pokemon was becoming a bit more comfortable. She had never been the best at interacting with others--at least not other humans--so it made her happy to know that she wasn't too intimidating.
The Zigzagoon mentioned being hungry. Jazlyn was suddenly struck by an idea; she reached into her bag and pulled out the Oran Berry that the Budew had given her. She felt a little bad for giving away the gift so soon after she'd gotten it, but she didn't want the little raccoon to go hungry when she could do something about it. "Here, do you like these?" she said, offering the berry to the Zigzagoon.

The Zigzagoon blinked at the berry and back at the girl. He shook his head in a hasty matter. <No no no! I couldn't just take that from you!I would have to earn it someway.> he was a honest Zigzagoon, unlike some who would just take it and leave. That is just rude. <I don't want to sound rude or anything, I would hate just taking the berry from you...> he said quietly, his ears back. Oh boy, what was she gonna do now since he rejected the berry? Eat him? Attack him? The thoughts ran through his mind, he sunk to the ground and covered his ears in case something would hapepn.

It seemed that the Zigzagoon was not going to accept her gift so easily. It was at least honorable of him to have some honesty, Jaz thought. But for the raccoon to do something to "earn" the berry from her? She didn't really know how to respond to that. When her trainer hesitated in silence for a moment, Ivy spoke up. <How about if you come with us on our journey?> the Hoppip asked, smiling widely. <Maybe you could get stronger and less afraid of things like people. And we will definitely have enough food.> Ivy peered down at her trainer's face from the top of her head as Jazlyn pondered this. "I think that would be a great idea. What do you think, little guy?"

Zigzagoon's eyes lit up with curiosity and awe at the suggestion of the Hoppip. He looked even more amazed as the friendly Trainer agreed. Zigzagoon pondered this, his head tilted to one side and a puzzled frown etched across his face. The little raccoon thought of the possibilities, thinking it was perhaps a great opportunity to become stronger and explore the world. <But, what about my family? I don't know if I can leave them. I'll get homesick,>Zigzagoon whimpered as the faces of his parents and siblings burst into his mind.
