Nicholas took a deep breath, he was at the edge of route one about to start his journey to becoming a Pokémon Master. Nicholas smirked, his bag on his back, he took his first steps into the wilderness. He began walking towards the first city, his sword resting calmly on his hip as he walked forth. He was looking around, keeping an eye out on the area surrounding him for any kind of item, berry or wild Pokémon. He couldn’t wait to get to his first Pokémon battle whether it be a trainer based one or with a wild one to add to his team. He had two Pokéballs on his hip, with his Torchic from the lab and his Spheal that his mother had given him before he left. [/blockquote]

::Sunkern:: ::Spearow:: He was running, or hopping if you want to get technical, away from the flying bird overhead. And it was chasing him at an unfair advantage, with the whole hopping versus flying thing going on.
<"Just give up already! I'm tired chasing you!">
The snarl it gave shivered him to the bone. <"And become you're lunch? No way Jose!"> he replied, still hopping away.
Maybe if her could find a human- and a strong one at that. He could hop in it's arm and be safe. Safe from these scary birds.
The Spearow did not want her lunch to get away from her this time. She had to feed herself too, and if it were to be at the loss of another's life, then so be it.
She dived down and stretched out her talons to grab him, just as he hopped towards the arms of a trainer with a sword.

Nicholas caught the Pokémon with one arm and reached behind him and pulled out a small Pokéball, which he promptly pushed the center button on and enlarged the ball. He then through it and in a white light emerged his small, orange and yellow bird, Torchic. She promptly let out a “Tooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!” She then looked at the Spearow and tilted her head, and Nicholas was quick to give out an order “Torchic use Night Slash on Spearow!” The Torchic let out a small 'chi' and charged forward, lifting her wings up and letting them straighten out completely. Her wings then began to glow purple.
Torchic would run right at the Spearow as fast as her small legs could carry her, Nicholas watched as the small chick ran towards the rather small, but still larger than Torchic, bird with her wings a bright purple color, chirping her name all the while. [/blockquote]

The Spearow was just about to reach her target when she suddenly vanished behind an intimidating-looking Trainer. She let out a fearful squawk before backing off by flying away a little bit. She made a circle and faced him with a serious expression. She didn't want to ever have to deal with humans but she had no choice this time since it was winter. Food was scarce so she could not afford to lose.
<"L-Listen you!"> she cried. However, before she could try to argue her way to getting that Seed Pokemon, the Trainer's own Pokémon jumped at her and struck her with a relatively powerful attack! She cried out in pain and was almost knocked out of the air but she remained in flight.
<"Y-You're not gonna get in the way of my meal! Back off!"> she shouted. She used Leer against the Torchic before flying in and trying to Peck it down!
Meanwhile, the Sunkern was gasping for air since he was running away from his predator. When he finally calmed down, he looked up at the Trainer with wide eyes; they were full of fear and awe.
<"W-Who are you...?"> he asked.
- Spearow was hit by Night Slash!
- Spearow used Leer and then Peck!

Nicholas focused on the Spearow first, his Pokédex already out and talking about both Pokémon, it looked rather hungry, but still he wouldn’t let one Pokémon eat another that was just wrong. He then spoke up and said “Spearow, it looks like you’re hungry I cannot think of another reason why you’d be chasing this seed Pokémon, but I won’t let you eat this defenseless Pokémon, if you want food, land and agree to travel with me, and I shall feed you and take good care of you, but even if you disagree with my proposition I won’t let you eat this Sunkern.”
Nicholas then looked down at the Sunkern in his arms who looked afraid and confused, Nicholas then said in a quiet, soothing tone “I’m sorry that you’ve been frightened by this Spearow, but its just hungry but as long as you’re with me you are safe, I won’t let any harm befall you Sunkern, I’m a travelling Pokémon Trainer on the Pokémon Gym Battle Challenge.” He hoped both Pokémon understood him and his intentions. Just then the Spearow used Leer followed by peck, which Nicholas calmly said to his Torchic "Torchic Dodge and use Growl on the spearow." Torchic then nodded quickly and jumped out of the way, she then let out a loud "TOOOOOOORRRRRCHIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCC!!!!" at the Spearow.
- Torchic dodged the Peck
- Torchic used Growl

::Spearow:: ::Sunkern:: The Sunkern, suddenly feeling warm and safer than he had in a long time, snuggled into the Trainer's arms, hoping to heat himself up while the trainer talked about some Pokemon Gym thing. Whatever. He was just glad he was safe and warm.
The Spearow, however, did not want her dinner to get away as quickly, and this other bird-thing was getting in her way. She let out an angry squawk that soon turned to a more fear-filled, surprised one when it growled at her, turning from an adorable nuisance to this... Creeper thing all in a few minutes.
<"Food?"> she asked, landing down in the snow in front of the trainer as he said something about food. <"I need food!"> she squawked, hoping up and down quickly on her two skinny legs. <"Food!"> She rejoiced at the sound of it.
However, she did not hear the whole 'join my team and you get' part. She just heard the 'food'.
- Capture the Spearow? Or leave her be?

Nicholas grabbed one of his empty Pokéballs with his free hand and enlarged it, tossing it at the Spearow under handedly. The ball flew towards the small bird until it reached it, where it would hit the Pokémon, bouncing off of her head and engulfing her in a red light, bringing her into the ball where Nicholas would wait for the ball to either be forced open or ding to let him know he caught the Pokémon. Nicholas then grabbed a second ball, and enlarged it, pointing the opening half at the Sunkern in his arms and said “Would you like to join me Sunkern, travel with me, and be safe from predators like the spearow? Know you’ll have to fight, and you will get hurt, but I’ll take care of you when that happens.”
Nicholas then waited for the small Pokémon’s answer. He would assume it’d either shake itself back and forth for yes or side to side for no, though he wasn’t sure and would have to assume the best that he could and decide whether or not to forcibly catch it or let it go if it says no.
- Pokéball thrown at the Spearow
- Pokéball held in front of the Sunkern to see if it wants to join or not

The Spearow was rather happy about the food, however, she didn't feel or even know about becoming someone's Pokemon. She gasped as she saw the incoming Pokeball, it hit her in her head and sucked herside. She tossed and turned inside, having enough strenght to break free. The Pokeball broke and became unusable as the Spearow turned towards the Trainer with an angry face. <You didn't say anything about this!> She exclaimed, although they did say but she didn't listen.
The Sunkern looked at the Pokeball but shook his head. <No thank you. But thanks a lot for the help! If you don't excuse me I think I'd better run now.> And with that, the Sunkern bolted away from the Spearow while she was talking to the others.
The Spearow gasped as her lunch ran away, she turned towards the Trainer and a vain was pulsing angrily on her fore head. <You'll pay for that!> She yelled as she flew in the air and tried to peck at the Trainer's head.

As the Pokéball shook around trying to keep the Spearow in the ball, the Sunkern that had jumped into Nicholas’ arms had decided to leave, so he shrunk the second ball that he’d had in his hand and put it back on his belt. It was then that the Spearow broke the Pokéball and emerged from it, he was shocked he thought he’d done enough damage to the Pokémon to make it weak enough to catch, apparently he was wrong and would have to rectify that.
Just then the Spearow was flying towards his face and Nicholas had to hit the ground to dodge the small bird. He then yelled out, as he entered the small amount of snow, face first getting snow on his clothes “TORCHIC USE GROWL FOLLOWED BY NIGHT SLASH!” The Torchic then let out a loud growl of “TOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIC! [/b]” Then Torchic ran towards the spearow, her wings outstretched and bathed in a light purple almost lavender-like color. If the Spearow was on the ground then Torchic would just run straight into it with her wings, if the Spearow were in the air, Torchic would jump up and slash at it with her wings.[/size][/blockquote]

The Spearow was laughing as she hit him on the head. She landed and stuck her tongue out. <Next time think before you make our food run away!> She exclaimed. She was about to fly away and leave things be but thats when she was forced into the snow face first by the Torchic's Night Slash. She gasped only to get a mouth full of snow. She slowly got her head up and spit the snow out. She sneezed from the coldness and turned towards the Torchic.
<Hey, watch where you're going you goof!> She said. She was even more angry now. She flapped her wings and stared at the Torchic, her Leer attack was meant to either scare or lower defense, either or it was doing a good job of both if it hit. She then yelled and tried to Peck at the Torchic by jabbing her head up and down.

The leer was only partly successful, it had lowered Torchic’s defenses and made her and her trainer angry. Nicholas stood up, snow clinging to his clothes and said “Torchic, we’re forgoing defense now, NIGHT SLASH!” The Torchic clawed at the ground a little bit, kicking some snow up behind her as she tried to give herself the appearance of a Taurus, well at least in her tiny bird mind. She then stretched her wings out and charged towards the Spearow.
The Spearow was charging too, doing a hard to predict peck, but Torchic was ready, as her wings began to glow lavender, Torchic lowered her body closer to the ground to get more speed and flew towards the Spearow. Torchic’s goal wasn’t to avoid damage but to lessen the damage whilst dealing damage to the Spearow, the Torchic took a few hits but from the looks of the exchange she might have scored a few as well.
- Torchic took the Leer, its defenses were lowered.
- Torchic took a few hits of peck.
- Torchic used Night Slash.

The Spearow was a bit surprised at the Torchic's attacks. They were laced with an ominous black color that was tinted with an eerie violet. She had only been using her beak but it seemed that the Torchic was literally slashing at her with some kind of dark force. She knew it was coming but couldn't stop it. She was struck cleanly and it hurt tremendously. It was unlike the previous Night Slash attacks in that it seemed to double in power! She fell onto the ground but managed to get up after forcing her body to listen. ::spearow:: <"T-This does not look good..."> said the Tiny Bird Pokemon. Though she wasn't down for the count, that attack was definitely taking a toll on her little body. She used Leer against her opponent before rushing in for another Peck attack.
- Spearow was hit by Night Slash! A critical hit!
- Spearow used Leer and then Peck!

Torchic took the leer, but her pure anger at her and her trainer being disgraced like this over powered it, making it useless, lowering her defenses only by a small amount. The Peck, to Torchic’s body didn’t register doing normal damage. “Torchic, use Growl and then use Night Slash again.” Torchic jumped back a few feet and then lowered herself as far as she could, her wings stretched out and dyed purple. She charged again with all her might, going as fast as her legs could make her go tough the snow.
- Torchic is hit by the Leer but it’s not very effective.
- Torchic is hit by the Peck and its barely effective.
- Torchic uses Growl.
- Torchic uses Night Slash moving as close to the ground as possible.

A Pidgey appeared overhead, circling around Nicholas. Her eyes glanced back down the trail, where a young trainer was walking quickly in order to keep up with his Pidgey. He seemed to slow down as he noticed the fight up ahead between two bird-like poke'mon. A Spearow. Raff didn't like Spearows. One had been picking on his Pidgey, it was how they met. The blond boy quickly recovered once he realized what was going on and ran up beside Nicholas. As he stopped, the Pidgey swooped down and landed on his shoulder, nuzzling Raff's head while clearly trying to avoid looking at the Spearow at all. "Been there too..." He commented, tilting his head towards the fight he had going on. But he didn't speak anymore than that. Distracting Nicholas any further wouldn't help his Torchic. Raff would wait until the battle ended before saying anything else.

Spearow's Assault
{ Spearow } (Attack -2) Hit by Night Slash Uses Growl + Peck
ooc: I'm not really sure how Leer can't be effective. It either works or it doesn't, and when it doesn't, it counts as a dodge. And at least 2 leers were used on the Torchic, when the Spearow only had -1 attack. Peck would have to do something.
Hearing a funny borborgym sound in her stomach from the lack of food, the Spearow shuddered as the Growl lowered her attack stat to the point where she wondered how much effort she could put in her later attacks. This Torchic had the power of darkness surrounding its wings, which made it quite the fearful opponent. A warrior of shadows and flames, while she was a huntress that relied on flight. It was a duel that she didn't think she could win, but that could just be her low self esteem talking.
<You...hateful little thing.> She spat, right before the tainted wings slashed at her body. She stumbled backwards, feeling the snow fall gently on her feathers as it cushioned her. She nearly slipped on the slush, but stood her ground, raising her wings in the air defiantly. There might have been more company in the area, which made her grow weary of her position, but she could at least teach this Torchic a proper lesson.
She retorted with a Growl of her own, making it as loud and obnoxious as she possibly could. Only then did she smirk at her fellow feathered companion, knowing what she was going to do next. Her Peck attack would be almost as fierce as before, but with less of a sting. The Spearow lifted up her beak, proud like a lion, before jabbing down near the Torchic's backside.

Torchic would take the growl head on, since it was a noise which was Omni-directional and thusly could not be dodged by conventional means and barely dodged the peck attack, getting hit on her tail and barely taking any damage. “Torchic use Night Slash again, and this time put all your strength into it, make it so strong that the Spearow can’t get up after this hit!” Nicholas ordered as a young man appeared and said a few things, but Nicholas didn’t hear him since he was deep in thought in the fight in front of him.
Torchic lifted her wings up and charged them with the purple energies of the Night Slash, a dark type move that for whatever reason Torchic knew. She then ran as fast as she could, since by now they had a good amount of snow displaced Torchic could kick off the ground rather than the snow. Her wings outstretched and charged forth, faster than the Spearow could react to.
- Torchic takes the Growl.
- Torchic barely dodges the Peck, it is not effective, Torchic barely takes any damage.
- Torchic uses Night Slash.

Upon seeing that the trainer was too busy to notice him, Raff took a step back to give him some space. Aella kept herself close to Raff fearfully. She didn't like Spearows... or any other bird poke'mon for that matter, even the Torchic was frightening.

Gale and his new Pokémon walked down route one more eager than ever to get his adventure started. He caught a Gastly at the Ranger Station, he nicknamed it Kage. He had met up with his brother Sejiko at the Station but since he caught Kage before his younger brother caught a Cubone. Being the great older brother Gale was, he left immediately and said to Sejiko, "Okay later bro, looks like you'll have to catch up to me again haha." And that was that.
Now he found himself on Route One, where fortune would strike him right on the head. A man was handing out free Pokémon! Although they were given at random. Pick up a pokeball and hope for the best. Gale wasn't the type to pass up this opportunity and he picked up a ball. Inside it was a Lotad, male, he nicknamed it Loko. The man also gave Gale three Rare Candies. He promptly gave them all to Arrow, his Pidgey. According to his new Pokedex, Arrow was the lowest level of all of his pokemon, so Gale only saw it fitting that he give him a little boost.
Route One was turning out to be a pretty lively area. In the distance Gale could see a trainer battling a wild Pokémon. It looked to be pretty intense. There was another person near the battle too. He seemed to be watching the battle. Gale ran up close to the scene to watch the rest unfold.

[ooc; There's no girl here, Ross, the 'she' in Grimm's post was referring to his pidgey. <3 @ Nick? There is no resistance for Torchics against flying type moves, so what's with all these 'it's not very effective?' you don't know the level of this spearow. You've used at least 1 Dodge so far, and a few 'sort've dodges' please keep in mind you only have 3 dodges total in a battle. ]
She couldn't help but be hit by the retaliatory attack by the wings of the chicken like pokemon, the purple glow of the dark type move shining dark and well enough to remind the bird of the night as it rocketed forward at her in these close quarters conditions. The little bird Pokemon cawwed in pain, she just couldn't handle many more of these attacks like this, and the growls had made her fearful, throwing away her ambition enough to slow an ambitious attacks.
She couldn't just lie here and be defeated, as this human would do who knows what to her. She had only been minding her own business, trying to find food- when this human and his torchic attacked her, and who knows if he did it with intent to capture her. No, she had to fight on, the mere thought of losing made her angry and fearful, so she stood her ground as she let out a vehement growl. With a few flaps of her wings, she tried to escape the close quarters, half-heartily pecking at the Torchic at the last second before flapping away. Her torn and worn body couldn't take this much longer.

The Growl and series of pecks would hit Torchic, but since the pecks were only half hearted they weren’t very effective, like a boxer with no stamina left to punch. Then Nicholas watched as the Spearow tried to get away, after all this time, he wasn’t going to let that happen, he turned to Torchic and yelled “TORCHIC, USE NIGHT SLASH, DON’T LET IT ESCAPE! Torchic let a small chirp out and charged forward, flapping her small wings, even though she couldn’t fly she could still jump rather high.
Her wings became lavender purple and she jumped, her goal was to hit that Spearow at least hard enough to knock it down long enough for her master to throw a pokeball at it. Nicholas watched as his Torchic practically flew towards the Spearow, though it really wasn’t flying at all.
- Torchic was hit by the Growl.
- Torchic was hit by the Peck, it was not effective due to the attacks being half hearted.
- Torchic uses Night Slash.
