Tess walked along the little path, smiling to herself and carrying her new Cyndaquil in her arms. She continued to talk to the little Pokemon breathlessly, never running out of things to say. Mostly she was boring Ember to death with talk of how her life had been for the past thirteen years. . .
She stopped abruptly and hugged the Cyndaquil close. "Oh, we're going to have so much fun, Ember!" she declared happily, smiling down at her Pokemon. "We're going to be the best team ever!"
"Cynda?" Ember mewed, tilting her head back to look at her trainer. Tess just giggled and hugged Ember closer to her, making her squeak as she was hugged a bit too hard.
"I hope there are some Fire Pokemon around here! I would hate to have to reach the next town empty-handed! Well, besides you, Ember. But you'd like someone to talk to, wouldn't you? Besides me, the big wind bag," Tess giggled.

The day was peaceful, a rare happening in a season that had sent pouring rain and beating wind. A soft, gentle breeze rattled the orange-topped trees, shaking the dry, cracked leaves off of the branches and onto the already covered ground. A few birds twittered here and there, and with the wind carried a sweet scent of flowers, which were in clumps around the route. Indeed, the clear day seemed too perfect to be disrupted by anything.
... However, one should learn to expect the unexpected. Suddenly, a loud squeaking was heard in the distance, and soon a small pack of rattatas came charging at Tess with an expression of fright and anger. Most of them were carrying baby rattatas, and on some of the older rats there was fresh blood and scratches. None of them showed that they were in pain, however, only fear. Some bumped into her leg, but navigated away so that they could catch up to their companions. A few moments later, they were gone as fast as they had come.
Soon a small rumbling could be heard, and the rats came rushing back full speed at the trainer and pokemon, eyes widened even more from shock. They chattered fearfully to each other, completely forgetting that they were next to a human, one of their enemies. They were too overcome with fear for something else that they didn't mind sheltering next to one, though some of them seemed to watch the trainer suspiciously.
Then, from both sides, there was a loud buzzing; and two giant groups of beedrills showed up at the trainer and the frightened pack of rattatas. The bee-like pokemon, showing no expression on their face, slowly circled them, as if they were herding prey.
One of the rattatas looked up at the cyndaquil that Tess was holding. <Oh, we might be saved from the spiked ones after all! Hello, firey one; can you understand me?> At this, the rat's pack-mates turned and glanced at the cyndaquil as if she were a juicy piece of meat.

Tess turned her head at the sound of the squeaking and stood there, rooted to the ground in confusion. There were so many Rattata! What were they all doing? What were they running from? She turned her entire body to watch them come.
Wait. . . They were coming right for her! She squealed and started to move out of the way of the stampeding rats, but they still managed to run into her from time to time. She finally just stood still, not wanting to step on one of them on accident.
When they had all passed her, she looked down at Ember, in her arms still, and blinked. "Well that was really odd! I wonder what they were running from!"
Ember sighed and looked back the way the Rattata had come from. Did it not occur to her trainer that they should maybe follow the Rattata? If something was bad enough to scare a whole Clan of the Pokemon, didn't it make sense it was probably bad?
No, it hadn't occured to her trainer.
But then, the Rattata came back. Tess stayed still again, not wanting to squish one as she tried to move out of their way, but they all stopped when they got to her and cowered around her, which just confuddled the trainer and her Cyndaquil even more.
"What's going on, guys?" Tess asked, glancing back and forth down the path for what was creating such turmoil among the rat Pokemon.
She got her answer seconds later when the Beedrill were on them. She "eep"ed quietly and hugged Ember to her chest. There were so many of them and she was only one person with one Pokemon and a whole ton of frightened Rattata.
Ember looked down at the Rattata as they spoke to her and tilted her head to the side. {Of course I can understand you,} she said flippantly. {But I don't know if I can help. I don't know any Fire moves!}
"Ack! We gotta get out of here!" Tess muttered to herself, glancing from Beedrill to Beedrill. She thought of the little piece of paper that had Ember's stats on it and she carefully pulled it from her pack to see what all she could do to make this situation a little better. . .
Then she saw it. Smokescreen! "Get ready to scatter! Tess whispered, hoping the Rattata with their big ears could hear her. She hugged Ember a little tighter, then called out, "Use Smokescreen, Ember!"
The Cyndaquil didn't waste any time. She opened her mouth and billowing, black smoke escaped from her. It swirled around in the faint breeze and covered at least her and her trainer. Both just hoped that it would be enough to give them a chance to run away from the massive swarm of bee-like Pokemon.

At the flame pokemon's disappointing reply, many of the rats bowed their heads in grief for the lives that would be lost. At that moment, the human seemed to be muttering in a strange language to herself. They could interpret her next commands almost perfectly, however;
"Get ready to scatter!"
As soon as they saw the cyndaquil release the dark billows of smoke, the pack of rats darted in a path they believed was safe. The buzzing from the beedrills quieted, a sign that most of the beedrill gave up their chase and fled from the choking smoke. However, some dedicated bees had followed the trainer, cyndaquil, and rattatas, relying on their senses to track them.

As soon as the suffocating smoke covered the little make-shift arena, Tess spun on her heel and dove off the path into the waiting trees, running as fast as she could go without running into trees.
After a few seconds, she chanced a glance behind her at the sound of buzzing. There were still some Beedrill following her! She stopped running for a few seconds and looked around for some sort of hiding place or something.
"Man! This sucks!" she whimpered, turning to face the oncoming Beedrill. She held Ember up at arms length as if offering the little Cyndaquil to the bee Pokemon, but instead gave a command. "Leer!"
As soon as the words were out of her trainer's mouth, Ember tilted her head down slightly and then her eyes started to glow and eerie yellow-red color. She was trying to intimidate the Beedrill out of attacking her and her trainer.

The Beedrill gasped in unision, and they tottered a bit. One lost his senses and hurried back to the rest of the group, which were fleeing hurriedly. However, this did little to the other two. They glared at the Cyndaquil for trying to Leer them into running away, and felt quite mad at the attack.
First they used a String Shot, to cover the small Pokemon in their strands of silk. That attack had come all the way from when they were Weedle, and were small and helpless. Then they both advanced on the Cyndaquil, and in a flurry of arms and legs, started using Fury Attack. Now that was a pleasant attack, it had a lot of fun in it, and tended to cause a lot of destruction. Lots of Pokemon were afraid of that attack too.

Ember squealed with fear as the String Shot bound her. She wriggled fretfully, trying to remove the sticky web from her fur. She only managed to tangle herself even though, more.
Tess had her hands bound to the little Cyndaquil, too, then she saw the two Beedrill swarming toward her. She cried out and turned tail and fled again, trying to pull her hands away from her Pokemon so she could help to untangle her.
She managed to free one hand and started to pull at the web around her other hand, but this meant she was not paying attention to where she was going or what she was doing. She had slowled down considerable as she tried to free herself and her Pokemon, therfore letting the Beedrill catch up to her.
Then she tripped.
Screeching in surprise, Tess toppled to the ground, landing flat on her stomach and getting the wind knocked out of her. The impact on the ground broke the string binding Ember and her together and the little Cyndaquil landed a few feet from her.
Groaning, Tess rolled onto her back, then saw the Beedrill were practically on top of her. She screamed with fright, forgetting all about her breathing problems. "Ember, run!" she called, hopng that at least her Pokemon would get away safely.
However, Ember wasn't going to let her trainer get all stung and stuff. She used a nearby rock as a spring-board and leapt at the nearest Beedrill, using Tackle Attack.

<Heads up!> One of the Beedrill told his friend, trying to warn him about the attacking Cyndaquil, but it was too late the Beedrill was already hit by Ember's Tackle Attack. <You're a little too late with the warning,> He replied to his friend, shaking off the pain from the early Tackle Atttack.
<Oh well, let's see how they will like this!> The Beedrill cooed, releasing a blast of Poisonous stingers into the direction of Ember at high speed. <And I'll take care of the little trainer!> The other shouted, aimming at Tess with a Tackle of his own.
<Hmm, it doesn't seem like you two are playing fair!> A female voice, shouted from a few feet away. The voice seem to have been coming from a brave, Starly. She carefully watched the Beedrill making a move at Tess, with her keen eyes, and decided to help the poor trainer out. She strench her wings, which soon glowed a mysterious white color, and flew into the direction of the attacking Beedrill with a Wing Attack, causing the Beedrill major damage, but most of all she stopped him from attacking Tess.

"Cynda!" Ember cried as the Poison Sting attack hit home. She stumbled backwards slightly and shook her head, then glared up at the little Beedrill. She had not noticed the Starly save her trainer, as she was focusing on taking care of the Beedrill.
With a shrill cry, the Cyndaquil jumped at the Beedrill again, trying to Tackle it and get it to leave her and her trainer alone for good.
Tess clenched her eyes shut and tensed her body for the attack that was surely going to hit, but opened her eyes at the sound of a different Pokemon. She looked up in time to see a Starly shoot out of nowhere and smack the bee away from her.
She got to her feet and smiled at the bird. "Oh my! Thank you so much you cute little bird!" she squealed happily. She had possibly just been saved from death!

Hearing the complement made the Starly blush, and she turned around with an embarrassed look on her face. Extremely pleased with her work, though you couldn't say she was modest, because she was actually bowing from her work.
<Why thank you kindly. I'm always glad to help.> She grinned with as much room as her beak could offer, basking in the trainer's gratitude while unknowingly finding herself in more danger than Tess was. The Beedrill had took the opportunity to use its Poison Sting on her while she was stalling, and took the attack like it was a critical hit. There were so many needles stuck in her body, that even after a couple of shakes, they still remained inside of her.
<Bullseye.> The Beedrill snickered to himself, making a u-turn around in the air to gain a defenseive advantage against the Starly. He didn't trust his enemies, and even if she was in pain, falling closer to the ground,it was always possible for her to strike back. The other Beedrill was knocked back by the tackle, seeing that he was closer to the ground so he coulduse his more physical moves, the ones that tended to do the most damage.
<You thought that hurt?> He asked with scratches and dust covering his once perfect striped abdomen, he rubbed his face with one of his needles, trying to get rid of an itch before focusing those sharp hands of his against his opponent. Once again, it was a Fury Attack with both hands in high speed action.
<Brrr...You think that hurt? Well, ugly, I'd like to see what else you can do.> Inches before the ground, the Starly had managed to open up her wings and took to the skies once more. This time, with a little more frustration going on inside of her. She wasn't going to back down to this one little Beedrill! She shook her feathered rump as a plaful insult to the Beedrill, and giggled when she heard his furious hiss. The chase was on. She flew straight up into the air, with him in hot pursuit. They went higher, and higher into the dark clouds, as much as their small wings could take them until she stopped with a mysterious wink.
What happened next was pretty darn amazing for a common Starly. She dove straight down at the Beedrill with her Quick Attack, the speed the two were going up left him with no choice but to get hit by the high powered move. The two were stuck together, with the force of the wind pinning him against her sharp beak, as the two came tumbling closer and closer to the tree branches. She winced through the attack, and sensed the danger from getting stuck in those rough branches. Her timing might have been early, but she managed to slowly curve away from the Beedrill, her wings were pained from everything that was going on, but she had to get out of there. Leave the Beedrill to his fate in the trees. She was still falling, narrowly avoided several branches before landed, hidden from view, with a knocked out expression on her face.
One Beedrill was out, and so was the Starly. It was one on one now.

Tess was back on her feet, smiling at the Starly, then she turned her head toward the Beedrill. It was recovering from the Wing Attack, but Starly still wasn't paying attention. She turned toward the bird and took a step forward. "Hey, watch out!" she cried.
However, it was too late. The Flying Type took the brunt of the Poison Sting attack and seemed to have taken a lot of damage. Tess winced, feeling like it was probably a lot of her fault.
But she needed to watch out for her Cyndaquil. The Starly seemed to be able to take care of itself, so she turned and looked for her little Pokémon in time to see her attack hit the large bee-like Pokémon. "Yeah! Go Ember!"
"Cynda-da-quil!" Ember squealed happily. She was helping her trainer! Yes! She stared up at the Beedrill, ignoring it's comment, then gasped as he came at her again.
She gave a small cry of panic, then dove behind a tree before the vicious attack could get her. Well, she tried to anyway. She wasn't quite fast enough and the Fury Attack got in two quick jabs before she dodged the other three.
Ember rounded around the little tree, popping around the other side of the thick plant and looked up shyly at the larger Pokémon. She looked around, then slowly approached the Beedrill, moving as a wolf would move when being submissive to it's superior.
However, when she got close enough, Ember leaped up at the Beedrill and lashed out viciously, using her Covet attack to steal any item the Beedrill might have been holding and deal some damage while she was at it.

[Yay mod coin ^^]
The Beedrill was angry, flying after the trainer and her Pokemon with such fury and disgust which, was pretty common with Beedrill that were disturbed. The day had been peaceful, with small sections of cloud floating in the sky and every other Pokemon on Route one seemed to be peaceful as well.
Except for one little Skorupi that seemed to be angry with the Beedrill, buzzing through the air and waking him up from his nap. He sent a poison sting to the Beedrill and suddenly.. The Beedrill was hit with the poisonous dart and, flew away.. weird.
You.. Defeated Beedrill. ::Beedrill:: Cyndaquil gained one level.

Tess blinked as the Beedrill swooped away, then Ember joined her trainer's side and watched the Scorupi. Tess smiled at the Pokemon and walked over, kneeling in front of it.
"Thanks for that! You scared it away!" she said. "I thought we'd never get rid of that thing! Seriously, we just started out today and we're attacked by swarm of Beedrill before we get ten meters into this route. . . ."
"Cynda cynda!" Ember agreed happily, waving her short arms in the air as she sat back on her haunches. {Yeah good work!}

[Ooc: Hello! ^^ I lost the link sadly and haven't been able to find it ^^;]
The day seemed to get better as the Beedrill flew away, scared and a bit shocked by another Pokemon attacking it but, nonetheless, he was gone and that was good for this trainer and her Pokemon.
The Skorupi, feeling quiet victorious and very proud of himself, and the praise the trainer and Cyndaquil was giving, sat up a little, waving his tail back and forth. He raised his chin in pride and then shook his rear a little. [Want a battle?] He asked, since he was already feeling himself in the gloating mood, why not.

[OOC: =O Oh I see. . . Well. . . As long as I don't get yelled at or something, here it is: Kumori.] Tess looked over to Ember, who shrugged, and she stood up and smiled at the little Poison Pokemon. "Sure, why not? It'll be fun!" she said, taking a few steps backward to give her Pokemon some room to work with. Ember stepped forward and faced the Skorupi, her head tilted to the side. This was a weird way to thank someone for helping them, but she figured the scorpion-like Pokemon had asked for the battle, so why not? "Alright, use Leer!" Tess called, wanting to get this battle started. Straightening her head, Ember tilted her nose down and her eyes started to glow a dim yellow. She let a small growl escape her to help the effect, trying to lower her foe's defenses before they started.

Laughing at the Cyndaquil’s attempts at frightening him with a Leer, he settled in his place. It appeared as if nothing had actually affected him during that one turn and instead his snapped his tail’s pincers together to made a threatening click sound to show off how sharp they were. That and he felt very cool when he did so.
<I thought that you’d come at me with some kind of tackle attack. But I guess I was wrong.> He chuckled with a hoarse cough, and stared back at Ember with a focused glare. He was really deciding on what he should do, and instead settled on shooting some dangerous Poison Stingers in his direction. It was very possible for a poison condition to be inflicted, depending on how many hit his target. [/center]

Ember cried out in suprise and flattened herself against the ground. Some of the Poison Stings sailed by harmlessly over her head, but she got a few stuck in her. It wasn't enough to poison her, but she wondered how long that luck would last. "Use Tackle this time!" Tess commanded, feeling a little disheartened that her strategy to lower the Skorupi's defence had failed so thouroughly. She got to her feet and shook the needles from her pelt and then rested her eyes on the Skorupi. Ember lowered her head, then lunged for the little Poison Type, trying to ram into the Pokémon and send it flying.

The Skorupi seemed like he was gloating a little with pride to himself. After all, being a very scary Pokemon as he was, he always thought that 'HE' was the strongest, the best and of course, thought he couldn't be harmed either.
The tackle was a surprise and hit the Skorupi hard, making him roll back like a ball and into a tree. Now angry, Skorupi sat up and shook himself to push away the embarrassment of being hit. Glaring down hard on the Cyndaquil, Skorupi ran at the Pokemon with a bite.
Skorupi used Bite.

"Ember! Dodge it and use Tackle!" Tess cried, hoping to keep her Pokemon out of harm's way for at least a little bit.
The Cyndaquil did just as she was told. She took a few steps to the side of the Skorupi, barely dodging the Pokemon's gnashing teeth only just.
She then pushed off the ground with her back legs and threw herself at the purple Poison Pokemon, hoping to catch him with her Tackle attack before it could get away and use another attack on her.

<Slow down!> The Skorupi hissed, getting upset about the Cyndaquil dodging his powerful attack. <I'm suppose to be the best of the best of all Pokémon!> He shouted loudly, getting ready to fire another attack at the foe.
The Skorupi soon opened his eyes and sprayed a ray of Poison Sting into the direction of the Cyndaquil. The stingers seem to have been traveling at very swift pace!
